...but seriously, congrats...

600 steroid tainted homers.

Yeah totally. All the other steroid users did it as well. 600 home runs...no talent needed. Just steroids.

It would have been more impressive if he had done it with just talent.

Congrats to Ken Griffey Jr., Willie Mays, Babe Ruth, Henry Aaron, Saddarah Oh, Josh Gibson on your juice free 600 HR's.

While you have to have the ability to hit HR's in the first place they call them Performance Enhancing Drugs for a reason, the Roiders need to be removed from the record books, that includes pitchers too!

Hank Aaron admitted to using greenies at the beginning of his career, so his homers don't count either, right?

Or do only some PEDs give you an asterisk? I'm so confused. Please furcalchick, DeLaSoulKidd101, and fanofthefish, help enlighten me.

I thought it was Babe Ruth that used greenies.

Nah it was Hank Aaron...

but question here...

because we know that A-Rod used roids, we know that Bonds used roids, we know that McGuire used roids, your hearts are broken.

You (nobody) wanted to believe that McGuire did roids. He was everyones hero. Nobody wanted to believe that A Rod did either. He was the people's champ, if you will.

Nobody wants to believe Ken Griffey Jr. didnt take roids, or any of the names listed there that were being "congratulated" for not cheating. Now Im not saying they used roids, but chances are more than half of them did, because I think that appears to be the trend throughout the history of baseball and sports in general. They just never got caught.

Dont discredit a player because of a mistake they once made. I mean... it's to be said if A-Rod used roids his entire career. It's to be said for a lot of people....

Congrats to A Rod.

He's been one of my favorites since 1998 and he pretty much was on of the reasons I started playing baseball.

I used to copy everything he did on the field, sunglasses, high socks, wristbands etc.

If there are any players that had the chance to break the HR record in the past few years I wanted it to be Griffey or A Rod. :notworthy

I don't recall hearing about Aaron's use of Greenies.but I will say that the use of greenies doesn't produce muscle mass or give the body the ability to heal much faster, like steriods or HGH. Actually the continued use of "pep pills" would eventually beak the body down, far greater than steroid use. Also one can look at the period of time when the use was done, when there was a jar of greenies in every clubhouse. One could also look at travel and that other considerations were different then, also players were expected to play through a lot worse than they are now. As for todays players where they only play an occasional double header and actually have travel days built in to the schedule, so they shouldn't need "pep pills".

As for A-Roid, he knew exactly what he was doing and what it would do to his body. He could see what it did to players as he and everyone else in baseball could see what it did for McGwire, Sosa and Bonds.

I can recall the first time the few MLB players I know were all talking about steroid use was in 2001 about how Bonds and a lot more stars were on the "Juice". The crying shame is I feel both Rodriguez and Bonds could have made the HOF based on what they had done pre-steroid use based on what they had already accomplished. Of course that's if you discount the statements made that Rodriguez was juicing back in high school.

Are you so "enlightened" Rab that you condone the use of these PED's, that while they don't give the ability to hit Home Runs do allow fly balls to go much farther when hit using them than without?

Or do you feel his accomplishments merit gratuitous praise and he should be honored as one of the all time greats in baseball?

My first blog post is about this. :) (link below).

That was a good read. :thumbup

Read Hank Aaron's book if you want to know of his early use of greenies. Moving on.

Greenies are a PED, they enhance a player's performance. Do you think Hank Aaron was had them because they tasted good or because flying on planes was too much for him? He did it because it made him better at baseball! He had energy when hitting those home runs that he wouldn't have had without them. They enhanced his performance. Hank Aaron was, admittedly, a PED user. Like A-Rod, he knew exactly what he was doing and what it would do to his body.

Also, you want me to excuse Aaron's use of greenies because of the availability and the time period? And then to vilify A-Rod? Does that make any sense?

My issue isn't with whether or not to accept past PED use. I understand why people feel like steroid users tainted the game, what I don't understand is why people pick and choose who they are going to hate for PED use. It's hypocritical, and that's what my issue is.

Everyone should read Dim's writing.

Steroids or not, not too many players have hit 600 HR's. A-Rod didn't need steroids to be a hall of famer. Give it a rest.

Thnx E.

I used to be one of those crusaders against steroid users, but as time passed, you begin to realize that it was a part of the culture. Like Canseco said, 80% of the players during this era used steroids. Alex Rodriguez is an extremely talented player. He's easily one of the 5 best hitters of all time.

In an era where steroid use was condoned by nearly everybody around him, and a time when even the commissioner turned the other cheek until forced to confront the issue, we are going to blame the players for doing what they had to do to keep a daily paycheck and meet expectations? A-Rod would've been in the 600 home run club regardless. He's without a doubt a Hall of Fame player with or without steroids. So instead of ostracizing him for doing what everybody around him was doing, we should really be celebrating what is a historic achievement and something that would never be achieved without a great deal of natural talent; talent that only a handful of players have had throughout the history of baseball.

I don't care if you think he's a d*ck. Hell, I think A-Rod is smug and not the greatest person, but he's a hell of a baseball player and this is a huge milestone in a great baseball career. Celebrate the moment and enjoy it for what it really is, a great moment in baseball history.
