May 16, 200323 yr Ed, I'm really surprised this coming out of you. All in all, when you look at ALL the moves I really believe we are a better because of them. Demp is a bust, Cliffie, poor Cliffie, those pins of his betray him with every step and he's having trouble staying above .250. Clement is doing okay, but just okay, Alfonseca was one of worst closers last year and CJ is washed up. Preston is having a good first half but he could still strike 180 times this year. I'll take this team we have right now, with a healthy Redman and Beckett over any team we've has in the last five. Beinfest has done fine, thank you very much and Samson has as well. If you go to games they're fun!!! It's unbelievable what a free pass Henry and Dombrowski get. I always believed Dombrowski rushed AJ along and that if AJ has anyone to blame (besides himself) it was DD for bringing him up too soon and letting him throw so many innings his rookie and sophmore seasons. What was, was. What is, is. This our team, they kicked butt last night, they've won their last two series, they are playing with the cards dealt them - the loss of three starting pitchers and their on-field management, I'm damn proud of how they've come together. And I damn happy that Demp and Cliffie and Preston and CJ are gone. No one's perfect, Beinfest might have finnesed a player hear or there, but overall I think we did okay.
May 16, 200323 yr The question is.. Will the front office trade Lowell? If they do.. they'll lose more of that little fan support they're trying to "improve"

May 16, 200323 yr I wouldnt say firesale.... Lee and maybe Castillo.... Lowell better be the last option
May 16, 200323 yr I agree that trading Lowell would be a PR nightmare and I don't believe Loria/Beinfest/Samson would be willing to endure the economic fallout. I think they fired Torborg and Arnsburg because they want to win. Call me a fool but I think Lowell is safe this year, at almost any cost. He's part of their salary structure for the 2003 season. Now next spring, if Cabrera can come into camp and show the world that he can play a MLB third base you might see a blockbuster deal but I'm betting mgmt will try to respore stability and credibility in 2003 and thus, all the existing team is safe.

I think they fired Torborg and Arnsburg because they want to win. Last year when Floyd was traded there was an economic fallout, lol. Lets hope Loria/Samson/Beinfest learned from that experience...
May 16, 200323 yr Let's recap... The Marlins traded Cliff Floyd. Bad PR move. The Marlins refused to resign Kevin Millar. Bad PR move. So dont say this team will NOT trade Lowell because it would be bad PR. they have done this twice within the past year already.
May 16, 200323 yr Thome usually heats up in June.. he's a slow starter.. Yea pudge is having a slow start also but Rune Says he isnt. Thome has gotten the Homers but his Avg. Is terrible right now...

Das, I believe there will be trades this year and in the off-season for sure, but last was an anomoly, it was the hose-out year. Coming in as they did last year, with all the negative stuff surrounding the team, I suspect they figured "let's bite the bullet" and clean the place out. Since then they have done everything they can to stabilize the franschise and restore some faith in the team. Who knows, Lowell could be gone tomorrow, but my guess is they try to keep him here through this season. With fully6 a year and half left before he's a free agent, and his salary already factored in for this season, I think he stays. But your guess is as good as mine.
May 16, 200323 yr If they want to save a little money I would rather them do it by trading Lee. His salary in arbitration would probably jump from 4 to around 6 or 7 next season. If Adrian Gonzalez is ready to step in, they could save a bundle there. Enough to hang onto Castillo and Lowell for another year at least, I would think...
May 16, 200323 yr If they want to save a little money I would rather them do it by trading Lee. His salary in arbitration would probably jump from 4 to around 6 or 7 next season. In Pete Gammons' article he says it would be around the $7.25 million mark next year...
May 16, 200323 yr I agree with the previous two posts - if there is one player on this team to build around it is Mike Lowell. Lee would be the most expendable due to his lack of production, high salary and the potential of Gonzalez & Stokes. Ideally - Lowell & Cabrera together would be best. Where else is Cabrera suited defensively - how about LF?
May 16, 200323 yr How about Cabrera at 2nd base... then you let go of Castillo (and Lee) and you got more money for Lowell.. :mischief2
May 16, 200323 yr Where else is Cabrera suited defensively - how about LF? thats what a person suggested in a espn article on Cabrera a couple of weeks ago
May 16, 200323 yr ramp brought to my attention the scouting report on cabrera a few weeks ago.... after reading that, i felt they were implying that cabrera should be tried in left field... this was before all the talk about moving him to left began... lowell is one of those guys you dont give up on....he is just entering his prime...look at what he is doing...he continues to get better....and can be counted on day in and day out to do his job. trading lowell would trump the floyd and millar decisions tenfold for idiocy.
May 16, 200323 yr Mike Lowell has basically had a career year, EVERY year he has played in. He is the heart of the oofense, the guy you can always put anywhere, and he will usually perform. If you trade Lowell, or don't sign him toa long deal, you basically hand away your offense, depending on who you recieve in that trade...
May 16, 200323 yr Author Round 2# Marlins2003, Beinfest has done so really good thing but again the Floyd and the Clement deals should had been more fruitfully. Thats all I'm saying. The manager firing (I agree with the firing) and not interviewing a minority are just things that make the organization look bad. The Dempster deal was a steal and Redman for Henkel (who is injuried again) and Knotts will pay off big time when he gets back. I'm just noticing a pattern, that is not going to lead to success in the future. For starters shying away from big-time young talent (LHP Scott Kazmir)because of $$ is not good when your basically living from your farm system. I agree though he did bring in Jennings who has a eye for talent. I just want him to not show his hand so quickly in making deals. Get equal value for what your trading. I'm done with this post......
May 17, 200323 yr Ed, i think you need to look at the Floyd deal as 2 deals in 1 Marlins trade: Dumpster Floyd Vargas Marlins Receive: Pavano Encarnacion Snare Wayne Levinski Mordecai Lloyd if you look at it like that, i think it was for the better......WAY BETTER and in the Clement deal..... --Alfonseca blows...we all know it --Clement has all the pitches in the world, with some 'sick' movement, but he is still erratic
May 17, 200323 yr --Clement has all the pitches in the world, with some 'sick' movement, but he is still erratic Thats one guy i regret traing First he had an Awesome season in 2002 and Julian Tavarez Sucked big time with us! I would take him back any day now since Arnesberg worked alot with him.
