SorianoFanHFW
Note: topic is not meant to set of debates concerning the war in Iraq, government spending, or global warming. Bottled Water Is The Biggest Waste Of Money Ever How did bottled water get so popular? It is ridiculous, unless you have a well, the water out of your sink is as dangerous as the water in the bottle. Neither are any healthier than one another (unless you consider the fact that tap water has fluoride for your teeth) so what is the only reason bottled water exist? TASTE! Yes, some water is absolutely terrible, such as Geneseo tap water, but some water is EVEN WORSE, like Dasani and Aquafina. How do they even sell a single bottle of those terrible concoctions? They're atrocious and disgusting. People are dumb enough to think that some how bottled water is good for you and healthier, but I'm going to let you in on a little secret...here's the source of your spring water: Yeah, it comes out of a tap. It comes right from the exact source your tap water comes from: some stinking pipe under ground into a factory that shoots practically free liquid into a plastic bottle. Springs, being nothing more than the water table intersecting with the surface, are nothing terribly special. A spring isn't some sort of magical fountain with angels flying around it granting the water magical powers. It is just plain old water. However, people buy it, even though they don't seem to be disgusted from the tap water in ice tea, beer, soda, and in cups of water in restaurants. Whoever came up with the idea to mass market such a free resource is a genius. I mean, that's almost as close as the guy at the nursrey that sells dirt or the businessman that sells ice to Eskimos. Selling tap water (turn on your faucet, you got it) is like selling air to the people. It is like that episode of Captain Planet, when the evil guys who for some reason want to make pollution take over the world (the Bush Administration?) sold rain forest air to cities...will we get to that point? I sinecerely hope not, but you know 80s cartoons, they are always right. I can only wonder what can be repackaged to the people and sold for more. Left handed baseball bats? Geyser water? Sunlight? The possibilities are endless. Runners up for "Biggest Waste of Money Ever": Social Security and Medicare Hmm, give the government money, they give you less back...what an awesome idea! Global Warming Research Okay, I'm going to settle it once and for all. All of these guys with PHDs can now save their time and work on more important research. Does CO2 increase world wide temperature? World Temperature (from NASA sattellite, read more here: http://www.ghcc.msfc.nasa.gov/MSU/msusci.html) World CO2 No. Diamonds A relatively UNSCARCE resource, but debeers jacks up the price. The War On Iraq Didn't accomplish anything, pissed people off, and costed a lot of money. Derek Jeter 18.9 million dolalrs a year for the worst defensive shortstop in the majors and only a .850 ops? You got to be kidding me. High Definition TV Hmm, many just burn out and the image on a normal TV looks "real" and the image on a HDTV looks "real" but people have zits and stuff. Big whoop. I have 20/15 vision, I don't see this incredible difference that makes me ejaculate in my pants. I have watched HD programming, and all they do is show glass blowing in a slow methodical manner. If you did the same on normal TV, there would be no difference. Honorable mentions: 2002 Mets, Roger Clemens (on the Yankees), Vietnam War, 10 billion Nuclear missiles, tax cuts, giving money to Palestine, prescription drug care coverage, massive stereosystems, and shoes. http://www.xanga.com/craigramblings

Lcyberlina
Bottled water is just the same as drinking tap water in many cases... If the bottle doesn't say "carbon purification" or "UV purification" you might as well drink water from your toilet bowl, and it doesn't cost you a thing. That's true. If all the money invested in bottled water went to other things, we would all be healthier.
Rebirth
$1 for a bottle of water at school. I rather buy a bottle of Pepsi or just drink from the water fountain.

Craig
I laugh at people retarted enough to whine about bottled water. Jeez, if you don't like the price, don't buy it. It's that simple. But for people who live in areas where drinking water can be dangerous because the water sucks, they need the bottled water to have save drinking water. I'm sure people who have got cancer from bad drinking water wish they had "wasted" their money.

I just think people who pay for it must be stupid. If your well is next to a toxic waste dump, I think you have a good excuse.

Das Texan
A growing number of cities have water getting dirtier and dirtier. But using a Pur or Brita water filter is 1000X more cost efficent. Again we see SorianoFan rambling on about crap. And its not costed...its cost.

Das Texan
fool... the water you buy in the bottle though does go through purification processes. its called a filter. the source is the tap...but it goes through filters.
SorianoFanHFW
fool, where did I say not to filter your water? If your water is bad, filter it. If not, drink it. You don't have to buy bottled water for that. Furthermore, do you drink soda, water at restaurants and ect? hypocrite.
Das Texan
wtf... you say simply that the water you get from bottled water is the same as in the tap. then you call me illiterate when i say i dont kno what bottled water is. and what does water in resturants and soda have to do with anything? g8trz2003
i drink cokes, not sodas. Soda sounds so Yankee (*trying to change subject for the hell of it, because this is such a retarted rant*)
SorianoFanHFW
It's called Sodas. What is it with dumb southerners and dumb upstaters with not wanting to say "soda"? It is called "soda" god damn it.

You really only need to filter the water unless you have old pipes. Obviously, the dangers of water are overally exaggerated, because we drink tap water all the time in the shape of fountain drinks and so on. Dependence on bottled water in thus stupid. So I "kno" this: if you cannot understand the above, I cannot help you. On an unrelated note, the best water I ever had was from this well in the middle of the forest near a stream. I don't care what was in that water, but it was a cool 40 degrees and it was good.
Buckeye
Actually, there's an episode of Penn and Teller's bulls*** that is very similar to this and goes into some pretty good detail on the subject. And it also makes some people look stupid in the process (P and T go to a fancy resteraunt and put hose water in a bunch of different bottled waters with fancy names the customers can "taste" the difference). This thread is very similar to that show, actually...
SorianoFanHFW
never heard of it. But I heard that professional "wine tasters" didn't know that they were drinking white wine when it was dyed red. Yes, professionals thought it was red wine. I once tricked my father by buying a cheap champagne and said it was a 60 dollar champagne.
SorianoFanHFW
my high school had yellow water...I suggest bring a bottle from home with some brita or pur water! Heckeroo
buy bottled water if your thirsty and just keep refilling it i really don't think anyone buys bottled water to be healthy, you buy it because it's right there, and your thirsty

PBMarlin
I would rather drink bottled water than soda.....so it's convenient to bring a bottle along. Now I agree Dasani and others charge a premium penny and that is ridiculous. There is probably more cost associated with the packaging and distribution, than the actual contents of the bottle anyway.
