April 29, 200422 yr If we do trade Nunez, and don't have any viable CF's in the minors, there is always still one CF FA: Ricky Henderson Doesn't Rickey play LF? :mischief The Yankees wouldn't want Damion Easley and I'd take Enrique Wilson on my team over Easley any day of the week (and twice on select holidays).
April 29, 200422 yr The last thing the Reds need is an OFer.... they have Griffey, Dunn, Wily Mo Pena(who they want to get some PT while Kearns is out), Freel, Smitherman(in the minors) also according to Hal McCoy(Reds beat writer)... Nunez "wants out of Florida" one other thing, the Reds bullpen is in shambles right now, the last thing they want to do is lose a quality arm for a player who wont get PT this is mostly speculation and I would think O'Brien would have to be high on something to do a Nunez for Reidling deal :thumbup Bingo Ramp, If Nunez goes it will be with a current pitcher on the roster like a Phelps. Franklin G. could be up here to be showcased :whistle Nunez is become a bad apple in the clubhouse :confused
April 29, 200422 yr As long as we keep winning I think we should hold off on making a trade for bullpen help. Wait until at least June when the deadline is looming and I think we could get much more value then.
April 29, 200422 yr I really don't want to trade Nunez because Cordero just can't do the job... Does Nunez really want to get out of here THAT bad?
April 29, 200422 yr Doesn't Rickey play LF? :mischief "Rickey plays where Rickey plays. Where's the card game and you get out of my way."
April 29, 200422 yr Franklin G. could be up here to be showcased :whistle Might be? They brought him up over Borland, who has been amazing thus far in triple-A.
April 30, 200422 yr He was in shock when interviewed after the game. One thing's for sure he isn't going to cost Dontrelle any face time in the media. I hope he does well. I wonder if he threw up before or after the game? Congrats kid. You're a big leaguer now. :brigginbounce
April 30, 200422 yr i hope we get rid of nunez......but put reidling in the minors please. then bring up an OF like aguila or sign ricky.
April 30, 200422 yr i hope we get rid of nunez......but put reidling in the minors please. then bring up an OF like aguila or sign ricky. WTF?
April 30, 200422 yr dont think this is gonna happen, both teams arent dealing from strength, We only have 4 outfielders and like people have said there bullpen is shaky at best........ however stranger things have happened. I would like to see Lenny harris dealt for another young OF.

I would like to see Lenny harris dealt for another young OF. We would be lucky to get a bag of potato chips for Lenny Harris. No offense to Lenny, but he's 40 years old and doesn't play defense, that doesn't attract too many teams.

If we're packaging Nunez and a pitcher from the roster, we sure as hell better get a little better than Reidling, because while Reidling is good, he isn't worth a two for one where we certainly weaken our bench...

I agree, that's why I'm all for sticking with what we got until we near the trade deadline. While the bullpen is weak spot especially without Fox, it's still much better than last year's pen at this time. A pen that included Vladimir Nunez and Armando Almanza. You survive with the guys you have now, then make a move for that big name reliever when they become available near the deadline. Just like we did last year. That philosophy worked beautifully last year and I think it will work again this year.

Well, I understand the logic that we need to be good enough to warrant being a "buyer" at the deadline, so if we can make ourselves stronger, do it, but at the same time, I'm not sure I agree with making a deal, I mean for all intents and purposes, Gracesqui was just "acquired." Benitez still goes in the ninth Wayne in the 7th/8th Bump, Perisho, Gracesqui, between the three of them seem capable enough to get at least 6 outs, and if we need the pen more than that, odds are we're losing badly so it doesn't matter who we throw...
April 30, 200422 yr Well, I understand the logic that we need to be good enough to warrant being a "buyer" at the deadline, so if we can make ourselves stronger, I'm going with the if it ain't broke don't fix it theory. Now I fully understand at this point our bullpen isn't playoff caliber, but If we're able to stay at the top of the division or at least within a couple of games why not stick with what you got until better deals open up? If we hit a stretch where the bullpen is losing several games in a row for you then you might look to pull the trigger, but that hasn't happened yet.
April 30, 200422 yr If we hit a stretch where the bullpen is losing several games in a row for you then you might look to pull the trigger, but that hasn't happened yet. Lucky you.... :lol

If we hit a stretch where the bullpen is losing several games in a row for you then you might look to pull the trigger, but that hasn't happened yet. I agree with what you're saying, but I think the logic being used isn't so much "if it ain't broke don't fix it" so much as it is "this is going to break, so let's fix it before it does." Perisho can't possibly keep playing as well as he has, nor can a lot of the guys in our pen, so I guess Beinfest's plan was sort of forced by Fox's injury, however, I think you and I both agree that now is not the time to "overpay" for a reliever, that's reserved exclusively for the deadline where you give up more than you should to get a bad team's good (or good enough) closer.

Lucky you.... :lol I feel for ya Smitty by the way, Larson blew the game the other night, not Graves Yea yea yea.... Graves aint good enough to be successful when 4 outs are needed.... Gagne, Smoltz, Benitez yes... Graves??? Fools gold.... Blech. 10 Saves? Yea, but look deeper into those stats and a really ugly blister exposes its head and I just hope other GMs dont see it when we try to get rid of him and his atrocious contract.
