Derrek is not hitting anywhere near the number of HRs as expected in Wrigley.

June 1, 200422 yr PB, lol, I admit it, almost everyday call up the Choi and Lee's player pages on ESPN to compare their performances. It has been a real source of satisfaction for me that from day one Choi has outperformed Derrek "I've had three clutch hits in my life and one was in Little League" Lee. BTW, one last stat - Lee is hitting .143 for the last week, Choi .320. While it speaks well of Admin Beinfest for pulling the trigger on the Choi move, it also speaks volumes about the Cub's management, namely GM Jim Hendry and Dusty "I'm a loser, I've always been and always will be a loser" Baker, both of whom are worshipped by the national media and who thoroughly gave up on Choi and couldn't move him fast enough in the off-season. Is there anyone who is disappointed with what is essentially Choi's rookie season? He's already had more at bats this season than all of last. His D has been terrific as PB's numbers attest, certainly on a par with you know who. What could Messrs. Hendry and Baker been thinking when they jettisoned this kid? I hope the hated Cubs are happy with their signing of one of the great underachievers in the game. As for the $22.5 million they'll be paying him over the next three years all I can say is they deserve each other. The Berardino thing is frosting on the cake.

June 1, 200422 yr In fairness, errors are not a fair evaluation of defensive ability. Juan Encarnacion committed ZERO errors last year and didn't win the Gold Glove, hell he isn't even considered to be one of the top 3 defensive outfielders in the NL. Choi's had a few balls hit to him that he didn't get to that Lee would have had, and I don't think that there is any debating that shots down the line were automatic outs if DLee is out there. I'm glad that both players are performing very similarly, and that Choi is up there as one of the most cost effective first basemen in the league, but I think that it's sour grapes at this point. The fact that we keep going back to Lee -v- Choi indicates (at least to me) that a lot of us really would like to have Lee back...I know I would.

If the pedestal was any higher that the local press put Derrek on, they'd have to get approval from the FAA and install red flashing warning beacons. His photo deserves to be hung in the Hall of Shame right next to Cliff "how many months will I be on the DL this season?" Floyd.

The stadium is bad for a hitter like him and Bill Robinson said he didn't want Lee to change his approach. I would have liked to see Lee come through a little bit more but he did have a huge hit in the NLCS. :thumbup

Usually by this time of year Lee is hovering around the mendoza line....he is having a better start than he is accustomed to I will look for Lee to have some very nice numbers by the end of the year. Not that I dont love Choi...... but I wouldn't hoot and holler over this trade just yet....to me, its a very even trade. Both teams got what they needed

Come on now.... dont say lee was overrated because his glove hand was close to the line His offensive numbers might have been a little inflated....but his D was stellar

Game 5 of of the WS, that ball that Lee backhanded to end the game, you think Choi snags that? It has nothing to do with what side your glove is on, I play first base BTW, it's all about reactions. Lee had very good reflexes and he positioned himself very well. Choi's reactions just aren't there. Errors are given based on your glove making contact with the ball, if you were to just allow balls to drop in front of you, no error is given. Like yesterday when no one covered second for the Reds, that was LaRue's error, but it sure as hell wasn't his fault, that throw nailed Pierre. Defense is the hardest statistic to quanitfy. Tejada is one of the best defensive short-stops in baseball, but he always has a high number of errors simply because he is able to get to a lot of balls that most SS's wouldn't get to. Sometimes above average range kills the fielding percentage, but it helps the team...
