June 23, 200422 yr Damn you, Spy Ware! My comp is full of it. Pop-Up ads interrupt me and download some more crap in the background. Ad-Aware works but the crap just comes back. Spybot....same crap. Oh, and the nice part is that it changes my home page to some stupid search webpage and it adds porn links to My Favorites. :pullhair UGH!!! I don't know what to do anymore. Is there any kind of spyware blocking program?
June 23, 200422 yr Same here. No matter hwat program I use it is on here. I messed up a couple of days ago and clicked yes on one of the gray boxes and fro mthe on my comp was infested. I had a clean system before then.....
June 23, 200422 yr The thing that also sucks is that even if the gov't wanted to make laws against it 70% of spyware would still exist because it comes from different countries.
June 23, 200422 yr I seriously don't know where it is coming from. Most of the spyware come from the websites you visit.
June 23, 200422 yr I actually just had a succesfful run of deleting some spyware with Spybot and Ad Aware. First time it has worked after several scans now.
June 23, 200422 yr We have the popup blocker from BellSouth.net. We also have Pest Control. It's freeware (I think) and we run it every day. The searchpage should come with a link on how to uninstall it. You can also block sites.
June 23, 200422 yr I had some s*** that hijacked every yahoo search I did, crashed my browser, etc. The only thing that has gotten rid of it is Pest Control but if I reboot my computer it comes back I still get pop-ups...it is so annoying. It really pisses me off to know that a person had to have designed all this crap. It really f***s up your computer. Do they really think anyone wants to buy what they advertise when they annoy us so much??
June 23, 200422 yr I'm not that smart about computers but I have ad-aware and 2 pop-up blockers and that has done the trick pretty well. It loads these programs onto the computer sometimes like "Internet Optomizer" or "TV Media" and I just go in and delete them. One time it was real bad a couple months ago and so I restored my computer to a couple months before when I didn't have any spyware on my computer and that did the trick.
June 23, 200422 yr A combination of Norton, Spybot, and Ad Aware blows spyware out of the water for me.
June 23, 200422 yr Oh, and the nice part is that it changes my home page to some stupid search webpage and it adds porn links to My Favorites.? :pullhair you got your browser hijacked... i posted a link here a few months ago that explains how to remove it with a program that looks for hijackable entries in your windows registry (it's a pain in the ass). i'll see if i can find it again.
June 23, 200422 yr I have the same problem with my computer! Pop-ups everywhere! My computer goes real slow, and now and then I get this little pop-up that shuts down my comp in 60 seconds. I'm so illiterate when it comes to computers so I don't know how to prevent that or stop it.
June 23, 200422 yr if ur tired of getting the grey boxes that look like a "windows pop up" the best thing to do is turn ur messanger off, go to >>start>>settings>>control Panel>>Admin tools>>services when the pops up, find "messanger: turn it off and disable it...that should help a lil bit
June 23, 200422 yr I use Nortan, Google bar(very good pop up stopper), and spy sweeper...all good for me
June 23, 200422 yr You guys got some trojans, some viruses, and adware it sounds. Norton and Ad Aware should do it, but the best is to get the restore CD that came with the computer, make sure your stuff is saved on a CD or floppy and restore it.
June 23, 200422 yr Author I have the spyware under control now. It took a lot of scanning and deleting from Ad-Aware & SpyBot. The crap is still in there though.
June 23, 200422 yr you dont need to restore your whole machine just cuz youve got spyware. if youve got a virus, run an anti virus program. if you think its spyware, run spybot and adaware first to try to remove it. if something keeps resetting the home page on your browser or if you think you have any other kind of spyware (e.g. you keep having random popups), read and follow the steps on this page: http://www.spywareinfo.com/articles/hijacked/ i dont think ive ever found spyware that cant be removed as long as you know what youre doing. and if you dont know what youre doing, the people at that site will tell you what to do.
June 23, 200422 yr Norton + Panicware Pop-Up Stopped + Google Pop-Up Stopper + PestPatrol Control = Great time surfing the web. Never get any pop-ups. I love it.
June 23, 200422 yr I just had to reformat last week b/c of ad/spyware. The problem is that ad aware, spybot and other "washers" cannot effectively keep up with the newer spyware being released. For example, the crap that got on my CPU was new, and inserted code into start-up exec files, which programs like ad aware and spyware nuker do not address. Aside from going in and rewriting/deleting the corrupted code, the only other option is reformatting.
