Willingham sent down

Featured Replies

from rotoworld.com:

Marlins optioned catcher-outfielder Josh Willingham to Double-A Carolina.

Jeff Conine has played reasonably well of late, and the Marlins didn't want to keep Willingham in the majors unless he was going to play several times per week. He'll rejoin the team in September.

Marlins purchased the contract of RHP Aaron Small from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Small will rejoin the pen. He should only remain on the roster until Josh Beckett comes off the DL on Friday.

Well it was fun while it lasted but we can all agree that he should be playing more and sharpening his skills before he blows away every in the majors.

Hopefully Small can erm..be better this time. Man our AAA pitching is weak.

I think this means one of three things:

1. It was decided that Willy needs to get at bats somewhere.

2. Willingham is about to be moved.

3. A deal for a hitter is about to occur and we are losing a reliever.

I would bet on # 1

I like this move. Willy gets more work than he would up here, because he obviously needs more. Small did decently (compared to what we've had) last time up.

As for Wendall, I believe the Sun-Sentinel said we weren't interested in him.

meh, would've rather seen Mike Nannini or even Toby Borland over Small. It doesn't really matter though, he'll get sent back down on Friday.

well atleast Willy will probably not get enough at bats in 2004 to not be considered a rookie for 05

I hope he is behind the plate on opening day 2005

If Josh joins the Mudcats in September he won't get a lot of playing time cause their season will be over unless they're in the playoffs like last year. Small was probably the best choice from the AAA crowd. He can crank out more innings than Borland, who I personally prefer. There isn't much left after those 2 at the AAA level.

we needed some help in the bullpen with Bump Working alot of innings as of late. We already have Treanor back there and we dont need a third catcher.

Good Move.

Im a bit confused...

why would he join the Mudcats in September?

Josh will rejoin the Marlins in September on the expanded roster. He will be with the Mudcats this week.
