Moving the Marlins to the AL East -

Featured Replies

Say it isn't so !!!

The Wash Post and the guys mentioned it tonight....Angelos was making conditions to his acceptance of the Expos moving to DC....1) that he gets to switch ownership to the DC team or 2) the Orioles move to NL East, and the Marlins move to the AL East....

Although the Boston and Yankees fans would fill the seats at PPS and boost revenues....with the way they spend on payroll, we will never see a playoff or WS again.

Lets discuss. Did anybody else hear this?

There was a thread on this recently. Some Red Sox fan started it without supplying any credible source.

If you have a credible source, please post the link.

I don't get the logic here. Is Peter Angelos looking to have the Washington whatever's in the same division as the O's? I'd think it would be better to keep them in seperate leagues. Fans will be able to see every Major League team by going to see both teams.

Until I see an article about it by ESPN, or someone reliable, I'm taking this with a grain of salt.

I'm more worried about Pavano, Lowell and LoDuca than any of these garbage rumors

That "rumor" is completely illogical. Why would the owner of the Orioles (a lifelong and charter member of the AL -- think back to the original St. Louis Browns) advocate a move to the NL in order to be with the Washington franchise (a city that has always had AL ties -- "First in war, first in peace, last in the American League"). If you have the switching of leagues in order to put Baltimore and Washington together, you don't put both of them in the NL, you move Montreal/Washington to the AL and bring Tampa Bay to the NL. Instead of a convoluted process of moving the Orioles and Marlins.

That appears to be the work of some bored sportswriter with nothing better to do.

I hope its not true. W eare screwd if it is and I like to be able to root for one team per league. Red Sox + Marlins.

They were talking about Baltimore's desired move to the NL on "Cold Pizza" yesterday morning. The concensus is that this is Oriole management floating a trial balloon that will never take air. And Selig has already tried to quell the buzz. Anyone could understand why Baltimore would want to get out of AL East, but that would mean some team would have to switch there. Ain't gonna happen. The more logical choice would be the re-tooled Expos (the Senators were always in the AL), but still any moves are highly unlikely. Besides, the Orioles should be careful what they ask for. The Brewers wanted to leave the AL Centeral to get away from the "big spending" Indians and White Sox. Now look what's happened: The low-budget Twins dominate the division. And the Brewers have to contend with the really big-spending Cubs, Cardinals, and Astros.

Baseball is willing to guarantee that the Orioles will earn a still-to-be-negotiated minimum in annual revenues. If their revenues fall below that figure, MLB would make up the difference.

Baseball also is willing to guarantee a minimum franchise value for the Orioles. So if Angelos attempts to sell the team and can't find a buyer willing to pay that amount, MLB also would make up that difference.

Beyond those measures, baseball will help establish a new regional sports network in the Baltimore-Washington area that would enable the Orioles to continue to televise games in Washington and its Virginia suburbs.

That is what Angelos is getting, no one is moving. And like I said earlier, if anyone moves it would be the O's to the NL East and the Brewers back to the AL Central, just shifting where the balance of team is in both leagues. One central downsizing the other picking up a team.

tampa and the marlins in the same division? Nah I don't buy it. Chi NL / Chi AL NY AL / NY NL Cinn / Cle etc etc ....only one that comes close is SF / LA

MLB just doesnt make it a habit to put same state teams in the same league.

They posted something on the White Sox messageboard about the Sox moving to the East. I don't think there is credibilty in either story...Neither one makes sense. Although we typically play extremely well against the AL East...

Close the book on this, it won't happen.

DC to be NL East, O's to be AL East, Marlins to stay NL East.
