November 27, 200421 yr Things going through a greedy baseball player's head: -Where's my money? -How many people should I expect at the game to praise me tonight? -Who should I bang next? -Where should I spend that 10 mil I have laying around? -Where's my money? -I hope that autograph could be used as a tax write-off. -I love myself. -I am so great I love myself. -I hope there aren't to many women over me at the party tonight. -Where's my money?
November 27, 200421 yr The AJ quote wasn't quite as bad after reading what he said. A little out of context. This is the only thing that pissed me off about the article. And when he thinks of pitching for the Yankees, he thinks of the 2003 Series, the fans at the Stadium living and dying on every pitch. I guess the 65,000 fans at the Pro were just sitting on their hands the whole game :plain Pavano is going to be in for a real shock if he does not perform up to 10 million dollar a year expectations in whatever big market he goes to. I wish him best of luck, but it isn't all rosey outside of Florida like he makes it seem.
November 27, 200421 yr I dont think AJ's comments were meant to be a sting against Florida at all, I think it's AJ..a friend of Pavano's saying he looks up to pavy and would love to allways have him as a teamate no matter where he goes
November 27, 200421 yr hey how bout you people fill the stadium and then stuff like this won't happen 622004 I'm proud to say that I am one of those 500 people Pavano was talking about that does fill the stadium every night .

November 27, 200421 yr i might catch some flak for this, but i've lived in rhode island for 3 years and i can say without a doubt that there is more excitement and intensity about baseball in the northeast than in florida. the marlins have their hardcore supporters that could measure up to any sox or yankees fan, but the community doesn't live and die with the team the way they do up there. college and pro football have a much greater hold on the pulse of south florida and while the marlins have made some huge steps in the past few years the fan base just isn't at that level of enthusiasm. i can definitely see why pavano, a connecticut native, would like to pitch somewhere where baseball is that important to so many people. he better be careful what he wishes for though. boston and NY fans have a way of turning on players who don't live up to their unrealistic expectations. i suggest you spend this offseason trying to get a little more juice on that fastball carl...
November 27, 200421 yr i agree...i grew up and live in miami, but if i was in carls shoes id be going somewhere else to...
November 27, 200421 yr whats up with this? in his words, he blames the lack of fans. its not fair to the fans that are there. sayonara pavz. and as for burnetts remark.. :censored
November 27, 200421 yr As mention during the season, a friend of the team mention to me that the Expos game against the Marlins(the doubleheader) down at the Pro. really pissed off alot of the players by the turn out during the WC run. The first game was started by Pavano(which less than 1000 people showed up). Carl was visibly upset before, during, and after the game. IMO this was the last straw for Carl staying a fish and it could be for a few players once they become free agents. Believe me when Penny was traded Carl was 70/30 to come back. The organization kind knew Pav's feelings "at the time", but again something change. 621973 I was at that double header. I was there for the first pitch through the last. Carl did not show up in an important game and he also hurt his chances at a Cy Young. To be honest, after the showing Carl and the entire Marlins team showed that day not only didn't they deserve a crowd of 30k, the 4000 that showed should be the ones whining and not returning....not Pavano.
November 27, 200421 yr Author whats up with this? in his words, he blames the lack of fans. its not fair to the fans that are there. sayonara pavz. and as for burnetts remark.. :censored 622227 Of course it's not fair to us fans that show up but that's life. This is a lame baseball town and we just have to accept that.
November 27, 200421 yr Truth hurts. I commend Carl for having the balls to speak the truth. If the Orioles have any intelligence they sign Carl this offseason and hope that AJ is telling the truth. I hate Miami fans, this organization deserves so much more.

November 27, 200421 yr Oh yes, let's crucify him for not wanting to play in front of crowds of 4,000 people. The man wants to go to a big market, make big money, play in front of big crowds, and get big fame, I can't blame him.... 621968 Ah, but before 2003 how many teams were going to give him a shot? I don't want to say he "owes" the Marlins anything, because I hate that line, but to make it big here where the Marlins gave him the opportunity, and then to toss a backhanded slap to the community/team/fans, is pretty weak IMO. But it's Carl's prerogative to go wherever he wants. How rough it must be to go out & pitch for a team who gave you a chance, paid you nearly 4 million last season, and won a world series with, just because they have a smaller fanbase than most teams who've been around decades longer! How did he ever get by? And what a slap in the face to be offered just 7 million a season for 3 years! So thanks for the memories, now go play for a team in a "real" baseball market if that's what matters to you. I'm not defending the fanbase down here, it sucks, but jeez what a whiner. If that's what he wants, so be it, but he doesn't have to come out in the media and cry that he didn't get enough adulation from the fans.
November 27, 200421 yr I didn't mind him leaving at first, but now that I've read his comments, the guy really is a douchebag. Same with AJ. I'm kinda glad he felt like we were cheap with him the season before last.
November 28, 200421 yr one thing though: the yankees fans did NOT 'live and die with every pitch' in the 2003 WS. most of them didn't take the marlins seriously and tuned out after the ALCS... only to find themselves getting spanked by a bunch of upstarts.
November 28, 200421 yr These greedy as motherf***ers are complaining because they play in front of 500 people yet they make millions of dollars. Give me a f***ing break, maybe if the team didn't play as miserably as they did last year more people would have showed up. Sure the won 83 games but most of the year this team played like complete s*** I ABSOLUTELY LOVE how they f***ers don't give credit to the fans who DO go to the games. AJ should stop whining about the f***ing fans and actually finish a f***ing year without a f***ing injury. Hey AJ here's a tip win 15 you bum and stop whining about the 15 fans in the stands. These f***ers have it made all they have to do is play baseball and cheat like crazy on their wives then make millions of dollars. While the fans have to bust our asses every month just to live comfortably. This is the f***ing reason why a fan should never fall in love with a certain player. Because the first chance they get they'll treat you like s***. God damnit I'm pissed. 622029 that s**t got me pist too and i agree with everything you have said, i thought they actually cared more but hell naw they didnt :fyou both of you! :chair
November 29, 200421 yr Do you all have to put everything as badly as possible? AJ was expressing his friendship for Pavano, but most of you automatically look for a way to say "f*** him".
November 29, 200421 yr I'm sure Pavano will miss the comforts of joe robbie stadium (pro player as the infidels call it) when he gets destroyed pitching in Fenway.
November 29, 200421 yr That's right....he wants to learn the hard way.But he better not come crying back!
November 29, 200421 yr Author You guys are awful. How can you blame people for not wanting to pitch here? This isn't the greatest baseball town, you know.
November 29, 200421 yr You guys are awful. How can you blame people for not wanting to pitch here? This isn't the greatest baseball town, you know. 622807 Because people can't blame themselves, their team, or their city. It is someone else's fault... someone else bad will and bad intentions!
November 29, 200421 yr Truth hurts. I commend Carl for having the balls to speak the truth. If the Orioles have any intelligence they sign Carl this offseason and hope that AJ is telling the truth. I hate Miami fans, this organization deserves so much more. 622287 Carl has every right to play for whatever team or a "real" baseball town, or whatever that may be. He doesn't owe the Marlins or the fans anything. He is a hard worker and he put himself in the position he is in. However, the cheap shot ("for 500 crowds. . . . . .blah blah") is uncalled for. It is all about the money. He should be a man and accept it, and don't use the fans as a f***ing scape goat! At least Pudge was upfront and told the world he was going for the money.

The organization kind knew Pav's feelings "at the time", but again something change. 621973 This is a very good comment..... The way I see it, the Marlins started a downhill run when they didnt resign I-Rod. By not resigning him, they where forced to trade Penny for a catcher and a closer they could have done without for the time being. By not signing I-Rod they also caused the 4000 fans support they got in sept....which eventually leads to disgrunted players. It's a domino effect in my opinion and not going that extra mile with I - Rod who not only bought talent to this organization but bought LIFE to the Marlins. combine all this with the fact that we play in a s***ty football stadium in unbearable heat and the chance of rain in every game.....and you have lousy fan support (not to mention the fact that baseball isnt chit in south florida obviously). Well here looking forward to going to my next ballgame next season....this is one baseball fan that looks foward to some major league action.
