Detroit Tigers player Monroe faces theft charge in Florida

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (AP) -- Craig Monroe of the Detroit Tigers is facing a theft charge in Florida after authorities say he stole a belt from a department store.

The 27-year-old outfielder wrapped a $29.99 belt around his waist and tried to leave a store Friday without paying, according to arrest reports. He posted $500 bond and was released from county jail later that day.

It was not immediately clear if Monroe had hired an attorney. He is scheduled to face arraignment on the second-degree misdemeanor on Dec. 15.

Monroe hit .293 with 18 home runs and 72 RBIs in 128 games last season for the Tigers.

For the record he made $335,000 in 2004.

But it's not wrong because other people do it all the time. Plus his agent told him to do it, so he didn't ask any questions, he just did it.

He did nothing wrong.

I got the sarcasm dude.... I also got the cheap shot at a certain other issue that has recently been discussed on this board a bit too much. A little slow today, are ya?

And of course, it didn't effect his performance at all so therefore it must be ok.

Actually, his trainer rubbed cream on his balls and his balls grew to the size of watermelons. He didn't ask any questions so he did nothing wrong :plain

All things to steal...a damn belt? WTF?!!!

Seriously, he should have gone for a matching pair of shoes while he was at it.

What's funny is he had to pay more than 10 times the price of the belt just to post bail...

I'll bet they say he's a klepto and he gets treatment for it with a slap on the hand.
