July 11, 200322 yr Enc is more of a line drive hitter than hr hitter.... it's pretty good for the PRO i think it depends who the replacements are.... if Luis goes, does Hooper replace him? ugh id rather Enc go than see Hooper on this team
July 11, 200322 yr onto juan E. he is not a 5 tool player. i dont consider a .280 hitter as one possesing that tool. he is slightly above average in the hitting department. his power is decent, not spectacular. his speed is above average, not out of this world. his defense and arm is pretty good. castillo is worth more when healthy.
July 11, 200322 yr Encarnacion's Scouting report says he will never hit more than .300! He doesnt hit for Avg. but has power. I would Love to see Hooper come up. He is a very good hitter and the marlins could use his speed and bat in the lineup. He was very Impressive in Spring Training....
July 11, 200322 yr I would Love to see Hooper come up. He is a very good hitter and the marlins could use his speed and bat in the lineup. He was very Impressive in Spring Training.... we could use Hooper's bat in the lineup?
July 11, 200322 yr Is there anyway we can keep castillo and lowell. :brigginbounce :deal :happydance :crying :happydance :w00t :group
July 11, 200322 yr i would want luis to stay...he's really good on defense. and his speed gives us a 1...2 combo between him and pierre that not alot of teams have. both of them on the bases is a threat to any team. I just think that luis is much more valueable then juan.
July 11, 200322 yr we could use Hooper's bat in the lineup? Why not? This guy is Very good....didnt every one want him in the Bigs after they sent him down in ST?
July 11, 200322 yr Why not? This guy is Very good....didnt every one want him in the Bigs after they sent him down in ST? not me. and i see nothing in him
July 11, 200322 yr not me. and i see nothing in him Ramp...in ST, Hooper was hitting ML pitches like they were beachballs...we could use him off the bench maybe and see how he does
July 11, 200322 yr well, than what do you want to use to determine if he's good or not? it seems to me if the guy is hitting .440 off ML pitching In spring he's a good player. regardless if its spring or not
July 11, 200322 yr Personally, I'm not so convinced as you guys are...Good 2nd basemen are alot harder to find than good OFers/ How many 2nd basemen are better than Castillo? 5? 6? How many OFers are better than Juan? 30? 40? I'd have to agree with this point. Outfielders who put up Juan's stats are a dime a dozen. Second basemen who put up Castillo's numbers are pretty rare. If this argument were solely based on production, then Castillo would be the one to keep. Of course, Castillo makes 4.8 million this season and will be a free agent, so that doesn't help his cause. Looking at the stats from the NL, only Arizona, Los Angeles, San Diego, and the Mets have gotten worse production from right field.
July 11, 200322 yr damn homers!!!!!!!!!!! juan has NO power. he has NO arm. read scouting reports, observe games. you people wear such teal tinted glasses its not even funny. are you kidding?..do you watch the games.....he has 14 HRS and everyone talks about his arm.....what are you talking about
July 11, 200322 yr encarnacion is not a high average guy, but he's deffinitely a contact hitter. he's just too much of a free swinger to have a high average, but that's part of his strength also. deffensively he's one of the best in the league. the guy plays the outfield with such elegance and reads the ball perfectly right off the bat.
July 11, 200322 yr Downrodeo has put together the best argument in my mind. It seems you have to qualify why you would keep Castillo/Encarnacion. Financial? Or pure baseball talent? Having said that, the modus operandi of this team is to win AND be affordable. Since Castillo is going to expect a raise after this season, I dont see any sense in paying him, a speed player without much speed anymore, anywhere from $5-7MM per. I would rather toss that money at a free-agent power hitter or keep Lowell - which will be what happens. That said, you could always trade Castillo and get a strong bat in return, perhaps an OFer who could play in Encarnacion's place? Ok, ok, it is getting too confusing! I say keep Encarnacion because he is affordable, does good work, and we cannot as easily replace him. Castillo we could plug in Fox or Hooper for now. 2B dont have to be offensive juggernauts to win, just play good defense and get on base 1 out of 3 times a night.
July 11, 200322 yr tough choice. castillo is an all-star 2B and doesn't show any signs of ever dropping from this level of play. he gets on base and his idea at the plate seems to get even better every year. i remember when he first came up with the Marlins he looked so clueless at the plate I didn't think he would EVER be able to hit. Encarnacion's a tools guy. Nice combo of speed & bat & defense. Still hasn't had the big breakout year like some hoped though... Not only is Kevin Millar going to outhomer his replacement, he'll outhomer Encarnacion too. (Sorry, had to bring it up) I dunno....Luis is more valuable but he also makes more $$$. It's not like Encarnacion is cheap either, he could get over 5 million in arby next year. Tough one.

July 11, 200322 yr yeah you kno sometimes we go senile. but like i said...juan e. is NOT a 5 tool player. I dont care what the homers try to tell you, you cannot fall for their ploy. His average is simply above average. His power is allright, nothing to get excited about. Luis Castillo is much, much more of a valuable commodity than Juan E.
