February 2, 200521 yr Good guy, but, now we are blocking Perisho and Tanks? Not much in the way of southpaws in the bullpen. I think this is insurance for Spooney and Alfo.
February 2, 200521 yr love the signing...has a great screwball and provides quality depth for a shady pen at best....has some closing experience too.
February 2, 200521 yr From ESPN's "10 best out pitches" piece: Jim Mecir's screwball: The screw ball is something of a baseball dinosaur, nearing extinction on the mound. Fernando Valenzuela's signature pitch in the 1980s, it's slowly disappeared in the last decade. Only a handful of pitchers -- including John Franco -- throw it with any degree of regularity. Though right-handed, Mecir's scroogie has almost turned him into a situational lefty since the pitch eats up left-handed hitters. Unfortunately for Mecir, right-handed hitters don't have nearly as much trouble with it.
February 2, 200521 yr He has two clubbed feet, or was at least born with them. Now we add him up with six finger and one hand. I saw this one eyed kid down the street tossing the ball pretty hard, I bet he's a marlin next. Coming to your town, the Florida Marlins circus of oddities.

Looks like Hagerty is going to spend a year on the DL...
February 2, 200521 yr To make room for him on the 40-man roster, the Marlins designated P Kevin Cave for assignment.
February 2, 200521 yr Rotoworld: Marlins signed RHP Jim Mecir, who had been with the Athletics, to a one-year contract. Mecir had a 1.80 ERA in his final 55 appearances of last season, so he shouldn't have lasted this long. His knee will often leave him unavailable to work back-to-back days, but he should still be useful for the Marlins. I'll take that anyday.
February 2, 200521 yr Mecir has been terribly inconsistent throughout his career. Hopefully this will be a good year for him. 675334[/snapback] Hey, let's face it -- with Mota in a new role as closer, Bump and Hagerty hurt, Spooneybarger a question mark, and El Pulpo, well, El Pulpo, what in the hell do we have to lose? :thumbup

February 2, 200521 yr I'm really happy with the signing.. Anyone who has an ERA of 1.80 over their last 55 games is good.

February 2, 200521 yr Mecir, month by month in 04 April: 9.45 May: 4.50 June: 4.00 July: 0.00 August: 0.00 September: 1.17
February 2, 200521 yr great move, very excited to see them get a good lefty with a lot of experience and talent.
