Dontrelle Will not play in the All-Star game

Featured Replies

He will be saved for the later innings. He could come in as a lefty specialist type deal, since this is his throwing day anyways.

Man he could throw an inning! Todays is his throw day. He needs to be in there today if not fans will be disapointed. He came there to pitch and now usty isnt letting him! Well at least he made it thats what counts.

Is Dusty playing to win? I don't think so. Even though your Cubs ain't going to the World series, don't screw the other NL teams who have a chance. Play to win!

Here is an article about the topic...

HOW LONG?

Dontrelle Willis pronounced himself fit to pitch for as long as necessary in tonight's All-Star Game, but National League manager Dusty Baker sounded reluctant to use the Marlins phenom or one of his own pitchers, Chicago Cubs right-hander Mark Prior.

While Prior suffered a bruised shoulder on Friday in an ugly collision with Braves second baseman Marcus Giles, Willis threw 104 pitches on Sunday in Montreal, where he picked up his ninth victory in 10 decisions.

"Some days 104 is nothing, other days 104 is a struggle," Baker said. "It depends how much he struggled. I really don't know. At this point, I would tend to probably think because of Prior's fall the other day and Dontrelle throwing that I'd probably try to save those guys toward the end of the game in case we go extra innings or something."

Baker, who added Willis to the team on Friday after passing him over five days earlier, said marketing concerns and viewer hopes would not factor into his decision on how to use Willis.

"You're treading on dangerous territory right now if you're going to pitch this kid on Tuesday night," Baker said. "I've got to talk to him and see how he rebounds after pitching. That's very dangerous territory of hurting this kid on one day's rest.

"Yeah, there's a lot of people that want to see him, but if he goes out there and hurts himself, they won't see him for a long time. ... To me, the health and well being of that young man supersedes any one game. That's how I feel."

i really dont mind if he doesnt pitch tonight, he just threw Sunday and i would perfer for him to save his arm for this weekend and for the second half. does anyone know when he'll pitch? hopefully Friday because thats the game im going to before leaving on vacation the next morning.

He pitches Sunday. On Friday you'll get Penny I think.

I wanna win this All Star game. It matters now, the NL must win, no more losing it. The AL must fall to it's knees and beg for mercy, OK!

ah well, its all good. going to watch my team for the last time in a week, might as well be there in person

LCastillo, it was NEVER said that he "won't" pitch in the game. Why do you title the thread that way?

The article says Dusty sounded reluctant and probably would hold him & Prior until the late innings. He said he would talk to Willis about it.

I don't mind much either way really.

Yeah I'm sure the game is in Dontrelle's hand

Get real, Dontrelle is not in a league of his own, The NL does have good pitchers.

He doesn't want to use two of the best pitchers Willis and Prior, it doesn't sound like he wants to win.

Stop being jealous that none of your pitchers can match Willis' success. How many guys do the Phils have in the game, one right (Wolf).

I know he cant use prior he has a bruised right shoulder but if he wants to win he should put DW to pitch to. He didnt go to Chicago to sit down on the bench and watch the other play....we need to win over the AL!
