Pathetic Marlins Fans

Those silly New Yorkers. :thumbdown If they love the Mets so much, why didn't they stay in New York? Because they aren't really loyal, that's why. They're just creeps. :mad

30k on a Friday?!?

The wagon has left the station.

Got my tix for tomorrow.

and that's another thing ... no one thinks that the people on this fans are "bad fans" or uninterested, etc

Then stop reminding us about it.

We have season tickets, we go to as many games as possible, we get beer thrown at us by opposing fans for being loud, we get flicked off by players. We are at the stadium. Bringing up the attendance to people that go to the games is stupid, it's pointless, and it will change NOTHING. So honestly, all of the out of towners, just shut up about the attendance. We already go, we can do nothing about it except listen to your whining and it's annoying. Go bitch on the ESPN boards or something.

just the community as a whole has issues ...... the problem isn't marlins fans, it's the general lack of them

people on this board run the spectrum of fans ... old, new, traditional, immature, etc ... but all are fans and all would do what they can to catch this team

just there is a general frusteration that the rest of south florida can't see what we do and help out the franchise, by supporting the team, going to games and forcing through a new stadium

it is also frusterating for us out of state fans, because it takes effort to follow the team, put up with abuse at road games and have a general longing to actually see the marlins more than a few times a year (i know locals have their issues as well)

because of this, when we see an empty home stadium, or opposing fans making a larger representation in the marlins home stadium, it is annoying

Well said my man.

I would say anyone who comes to this site is not a bad fan by any means. But it bothers me seeing the fans in attendence being drowned out by the other team's fans. Joke or not, there were louder cheers for Mets hits than there were for when the Marlins scored. And that is the essence of what bothers me. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one is who is bothered by this.

You're clueless.

When was the last time you were at a game in South Florida?

Those things you discussed happen regularly. Especially during Friday, Saturday and Sunday games.

The fact of the matter is that there are thousands of transplanted NY's down here...when a group of them start chanting the odds are that they will be heard for a bit and then booed down.

That's the reality...face it. You don't hear anything when the Brewers or Padres come to town. It's a unique situation to South Florida due to the number of transplants. You'll hear similar cheering when the Braves or Cubs are in town well. It's not a reflection of pathetic Marlin fans but a the reality of the situation.

Seriously, me and my parents were some of the only Marlin fans in my section who stayed all 9 innings on Thursday. Even early on when we were still sort of in the game me and my mom were the only people BEHIND HOME PLATE to give Mets fans a hard time and not let thier idiotic, drunken babbling go unchecked. I got absolutely no back up when I started a "Let's go Marlins!" chant and was joined only by moronic Mets fans making fun of me and my mom. It was a major let down to be nearly outnumbered in my own stadium. An apparent Met fan prescence is fine but a near 50/50 split is unacceptable.

As a region as a whole, South Florida does deserve all the flak it gets.

Outnumbered? Maybe in your section but not the whole stadium. The Marlin fan clearly outnumbered the Met fans.

juanky - whatever buddy .....

message boards are a place to discuss and vent on elements of a subject, in this case the marlins

therefore when any of us make a factual statement that the south florida community isn't the most supportive it is well within the guidelines

if you don't like it, don't click on threads that have the subject of attendance

quit trying to be a board dictator and show some personal discretion

with that said 30k is an encouraging crowd

i'd personally be happy if the marlins start pulling in around 25k on weedays and between 35-40k on weekends .. that would be a great step

it would also allow us out of towners to hear something more positive when it comes to the marlins other than jokes about how nobody is at the game

or have our locals prevented from making idiotic comments such as "why do you spend so much time following a team that the people of Florida don't even care about"

just because Admin has set up a wonderful community full of good fans, doesn't mean that in general south florida isn't a weak market, that there aren't any negative effects due to poor attendance and that the number of butts in the stadium isn't a legit point of discussion

i'd personally be happy if the marlins start pulling in around 25k on weedays and between 35-40k on weekends .. that would be a great step

Averaging 25-26k a night for the whole year would be a great step. It would be a step up from last year's 22k and 2003's 15-6k a night average.

Expecting 25k a night during the week is just setting yourself up for disappointment. 20k a night during the week is more realistic.

Sox fans actualy SPIT on you and THREW BEER AT YOU? Everytime there's a Sox home game there are always a bunch of Yankee fans in attendance and nothing ever seems to happen to them...

751306

I know you all will think I deserved it or what not, but I had ice and beer thrown at me when I was cheering for the Indians in Game 7 of '97. (I really didn't like Livan at the time... he was my sole reason for rooting agaisnt the Fish.)

Why didnt you like Livan? Are you a Fidel loving communist? I think it was well deserved.

Do you like Livan now? Seems the way you wrote it, you like him now or at the least dont hate him.

Why would you stay all 9 innings if we are losing 10-1?

23,623 fans today.

103,155 fans over 4 games. Averaging 25,788 in that span. We have a good shot at 130,000 for the entire homestand.

Personally if I pay for my ticket...I am going to stay for the entire time. I will never leave a game early. I feel its a waste if I were to leave especially if it were my money.

752306

Because baseball is baseball, and any true fan of the game will stick it out through the last out regardless of the score.

Some people leave early, some stay. Realistically, I think it is ludicrous to stay the whole game and get home later. People with work and school the next day like getting home earlier and the parking lot is a madhouse after the game is over. If it is like a 4 or 5 run lead on a week night I usually leave after 8. With that being said, I always go to the top of the section with 2 outs in the 9th.

Your opinion that real baseball fans stay the whole game makes sense, but if you go to 40 games a year and your team falls behind 10-1 it really isn't worth it. This is IMO of course, everyone here is different.
