April 22, 200521 yr Author Quick I watched the game last night and it seemed to me on countless occations that the Marlins fans were just as loud IF not louder than the Mets fans that were there last night. Besides, its hard to be louder when 50% of the stadium was filled with Mets fan. :thumbdown 750340 Attendence aside, there needs to be better cheering by the fans. The PA system needs to play more "charge!" tunes. And you can , in fact, chant "Let's go Mar-lins". It's frustrating because the Marlins fans at the game tend to have a "laissez-faire" attitude towards cheering; it's as if the fans there feel like they should do exactly what they'd be doing if they were watching the game at home, just sit back and watch. We need energetic fans that start up the wave in the upper deck and chant for the team when we're ahead in the count or want the strike out. It's because of this that we get the knock of being "bad fans" and the fact that these past two games sounded like they were played at Shea really irritates me as a Marlins fan.
April 22, 200521 yr and that's another thing ... no one thinks that the people on this fans are "bad fans" or uninterested, etc just the community as a whole has issues ...... the problem isn't marlins fans, it's the general lack of them people on this board run the spectrum of fans ... old, new, traditional, immature, etc ... but all are fans and all would do what they can to catch this team just there is a general frusteration that the rest of south florida can't see what we do and help out the franchise, by supporting the team, going to games and forcing through a new stadium it is also frusterating for us out of state fans, because it takes effort to follow the team, put up with abuse at road games and have a general longing to actually see the marlins more than a few times a year (i know locals have their issues as well) because of this, when we see an empty home stadium, or opposing fans making a larger representation in the marlins home stadium, it is annoying 750183 Well said my man. I would say anyone who comes to this site is not a bad fan by any means. But it bothers me seeing the fans in attendence being drowned out by the other team's fans. Joke or not, there were louder cheers for Mets hits than there were for when the Marlins scored. And that is the essence of what bothers me. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one is who is bothered by this. 750227 You're clueless. When was the last time you were at a game in South Florida? Those things you discussed happen regularly. Especially during Friday, Saturday and Sunday games. The fact of the matter is that there are thousands of transplanted NY's down here...when a group of them start chanting the odds are that they will be heard for a bit and then booed down. That's the reality...face it. You don't hear anything when the Brewers or Padres come to town. It's a unique situation to South Florida due to the number of transplants. You'll hear similar cheering when the Braves or Cubs are in town well. It's not a reflection of pathetic Marlin fans but a the reality of the situation.
April 22, 200521 yr Thing is, Miami... well, South Florida in general.... is so diverse, you can't expect everyone to be a Marlins fan. I know like 3 or 4 people here at work who are Mets fans who are from NY or Jersey... and they all work in one office. Fortunately, it is getting better down here. I have seen more Marlins t-shirts than I have over the years. I mean, even my best friend who hates baseball told me she keeps hearing so much about the Marlins at work, that she wants to go to a game. Don't call us fans here pathetic. It's not fair to those of us who try our hardest to go to all the games we can. We cheer for our team (if you go to a game at Dolphins Stadium, you will know it's true). Whenenver I hear someone call us pathetic, it just really gets to me, sorry. I am really tired of it.
April 22, 200521 yr ^^^ Good post, Ms. MiRi. The PA system needs to play more "charge!" tunes. And you can , in fact, chant "Let's go Mar-lins". .... You know, you have a point there. I was at last night's game and at some points, the Marlins fans were trying to get a chant going, but it died out quickly. At those points I was hoping that the sound board operator would play the four-note "let's-go-marlins" sound on his keyboard (you can't sing "let's go Mets" to those four notes), but didn't. They need to do more up there to enhance the fan experience.
April 22, 200521 yr yea i was at the game last night by the mets bullpen alot of mets fans doing little gay met chants and m-e-t-s mets mets mets we came back by starting a new york sucks chant.and then when they would start doing met chants some of us were starting marlins chants and booing them and then what i was really laughing about is that mets fan were lining up to get pedros autograph.but pedro never gave them a look or nothing . that goes to show pedro is a greedy bastard
April 22, 200521 yr " I was hoping that the sound board operator would play the four-note "let's-go-marlins" sound on his keyboard" Sound Board Operator??? P.A. System? The marlins have their own live organist, no need to push keyboard buttons... At least the had one last year and the 10 years before that... Check the link http://www.ballparktour.com/Organists.html
April 22, 200521 yr even though it isnt from this game...i just thought i would entertain all the fish fans with this story...back in 03' i went to the marlins-sox game up here in fenway...i have been a fish fan since the beginning and i loved bringing my best friends to see their favorite team the sox...so we went to the middle game and the fish were down 9-2 goin to the 8th inning when encarnacion hit a 3 run shot to cap a 4 run 8th inning and then lowell's 3 run shot capped a 4 run 9th inning...when lowell was jogging the bases i was the only person in all of fenway park standing, cheering, screaming my lungs out for my team...what a game...best game i ever went to...and i got pushed, spit at, beet spilt on me and so on...and then one truely respectible fan came up to me after the game and told me the marlins are a bunch of fighters...a bunch of fighters who won the whole F****** thing...hell yeah...and then another bunch of fighters won it last year...anyways...just wanted to share that on one night in boston...the marlins were heard loud and clear 750356 :thumbup :thumbup Well done. In Coors I would be in similar situations but their fans aren't as rabid as the Sox so I never got beer poured on.

April 22, 200521 yr Just wanted to throw my 2 cents worth in. I don't appreciate anyone dissing Marlins fans. My husband and I drove all the way from Orlando to catch both the Mets games. The first game had plenty of Marlins fans, and loud ones too. The 2nd game seemed to be swimming in Mutts fans. Much louder and much more obnoxious. It certainly didn't help that Lieter gave the entire game away in the 2nd inning. It only reminded me how saturated South Florida is with New Yorkers. I honestly wish they would move the team to Orlando.
April 22, 200521 yr I honestly wish they would move the team to Orlando. 751292 Yea... just screw all of us over. :plain
April 22, 200521 yr I honestly wish they would move the team to Orlando. 751292 Orlando's way too small to house a Major League Baseball team.

South Florida, aside from possibly New York, is the most diverse area in the United States. Luckily for New Yorkers, the British felt it necessary to set up camp in New England and base the US out of that region. Since New York was the largest city in the US at the time of the start of baseball, they got a team. Miami is a relatively recent development. Starting in the late 60's, people started living in the area, and only in the 80's and 90's did the huge population boom occur in the suburbs and surrounding cities of Miami and Ft. Lauderdale. The Florida Marlins came to be in '93, and at the time (as Miri stated), there were already displaced New Yorkers living in South Florida. Some of the less fanatical fans decided to be Marlin's fans, but a HUGE following stayed dedicated to New York and their teams. Also, prior to the Marlins, a large contingent of baseball fans in South Florida had to root for other teams, most notably the Braves, Dodgers, Cubs and Yankees. Twelve years later, the first generation of Marlins fans have grown up (fans aged 20-40). Tradition takes time, and as the years go by, you'll see a more faithful Marlin fan base. Right now, there is still much diversity in terms of baseball fans. In another 15 years, the second generation (the 'natural' Marlin fans, babies and young children of original Marlin fans) will have grown up, and generate a larger fan base. So YEAH, the Mets, Cubs, Yankees, Red Sox, Braves WILL OBVIOUSLY have a plethora of fans attending the Marlin games, because those are the fans that prior to '93, had a favorite team that they weren't willing to abandon. Eventually, if the Marlins stay put, the fan base will increase to the point where we will be at a huge advantage, no matter who the Marlins play.

April 22, 200521 yr As I was listening to last night's game on the radio and then on TV, it was really pathetic how the Mets fans at the game were able to drownout the Marlins fans. I don't care how many 80 year olds moved to Florida, the fact of the matter is if they get a "Lets go Mets" chant going, our fans should get a MUCH louder "Lets go Marlins" chant to drown them out. Instead, we get a chorus of boos. Give me a break. Keep blaming traffic, no free donuts or Everybody Loves Raymond reruns, but the Marlins have an apparently well deserved stigma of being bad fans. 750012 I'm not one to lash out, but you need to either go to a game or shut up. It's really that simple, you have no room to be calling Marlins fans pathetic when you haven't been to a game. Period. You say you live out of state? Well too damn bad, that is no excuse. There are numerous diehard Marlins fans here on MB.com that live out of state and every year they'll fly down to South Florida to catch an entire home stand.
April 22, 200521 yr Amen, Lefty! Honestly, I can't blame them for loving their team. If I would move away from Florida (which I don't plan to.. I love it here. Proud to be a Florida girl!), I will always remain a huge Marlin fan.
April 22, 200521 yr I honestly wish they would move the team to Orlando. 751292 Yea... just screw all of us over. :plain 751296 Sorry, I didn't mean to say that to "screw" other Marlins fans. It just irks me when people call us pathetic. We drove 4 hours, paid for a hotel for 2 nights, tickets to 2 games. (not cheap seats either) gas, food, parking ect. To support the team I love. We also drive to spring training games and plan on at least 3 more regular season games this year. Pathetic? Hardly.
April 22, 200521 yr Also, I don't like the decision from the FO to not open the upper deck area from Mon-Thursday. I think the attendance will be big enough to justify opening those areas. Not openning the UDeck area turns off the walk up crows and those with lower income. Basically, fish tank and outfield areas gets sold first, leaving only the more expensive seats avaialble for walk ups. Example, last night was not easy to show up at the stadium with a family of 4 and wanting to buy a fish tank (that family may have planned to spent 40 dollars in tickets), but due to availability they may have to spent 2 or 3 times that amount if they wanted to see the game. Not family friendly IMHO Last night the attendance was 27K, there was no way they could accomodate more than that without upper deck open. Not opening upper deck also causes delays, there was a HUGE line at 7:15PM trying to get tickets last night. I know they end up selling the more expensive tickets, but I think it is turning off some people from the games.
April 22, 200521 yr i was at da game last nite......can u blame da marlins fans for getting drowned out in cheers? when ur team is getting massacred like that its hard to cheer for ur team cuz youre so disappointed....i saw in fish tank last nite where did y'all sit?

April 22, 200521 yr I was at the game so I was one of the few Marlins fans there. I'll be able to go to more after those AP exam things.
