July 25, 200322 yr Ok listen.. We need a new stadium. Loria says he's willing to pay 100 million or whatever. And the rest which is about 200 million to be paid by the city or what not. Well to make it easier for the city to approve of a plan like this why don't us the fans take some inniciative! We all love this team and want to see it here for years and years to come. If every fish fan were to contribute a little something then it could go a long way. Maybe I am out of my mind but we need to do something make a proposal to the florida marlins and let them know of what's goin down and I'm sure every fan that goes to a game would'nt mind throwing in a dollar or whatever into a marlin pot! I myself would throw in more than that everytime I attend a game and I attend about 35-40 games a year! We need to do something! I was wondering what ya'll thought.
July 25, 200322 yr i think its a good idea... Wont get all the money but it will chip off the price and make the city more happier to approve the building of it or w/e
July 25, 200322 yr Author WE can work something up and talk to the marlins and go in as a group with marlinsbaseball.com!! Money goes toward chipping away at the marlins new stadium fund it can last all through the offseason. Save them pennies!
July 25, 200322 yr Call me crazy, but i think loria is trying to get this stadium done privately with local companies in south florida (leasing skyboxes for construction money, selling ads for construction money, and selling the naming rights.) I think it is true he is going after the stadium, but i believe it is true that he didn't make any offers to any government officials. I think he may try to get a mortgage from Bank of America and do it privately. Think about it, he could lease the land from the city/county like joe robbie did with the pro. Lets do some math now. Total $325 million 30 year financing If he pays about $12 million a year in rent, he can pay it off in 30 years privately. He can get money from skyboxes ($1 million/per year/per skybox, so 64 leasable skyboxes would be $64 million a year.), naming rights ($50-60 million for 25-30 years), and/or sell advertising around the ballpark. Don't forget parking (in certain locations), conssecions (sp), and non-baseball events held at the ballpark (Devil Rays stay afloat because of this)

July 25, 200322 yr and I'm sure every fan that goes to a game would'nt mind throwing in a dollar or whatever into a marlin pot! Heh, a dollar? So if the Marlins reach 1 million in attendance, that's 1 million dollars...towards a 300 million dollar stadium. Yeah....
July 25, 200322 yr I think that if the marlins do that next year they can pay for the stadium on their own.

July 25, 200322 yr It's a nice thought, but it ignores the original problem... Getting people to attend games. I think it would be much more effective if the fan base and FO could find a comprehensive means of promotion to increase attendance. If you called Loria on the batphone right now and asked him if he would rather have everyone who attends now donate a couple of bucks OR see attendance increase 30 percent he'd take the attendance everytime.
July 25, 200322 yr Sure, I'll bust open my piggy bank, that should help. It's a sweet idea, but the Marlins get maybe 1.2 million fans the entire season. Every fan could donate a buck each game & it would barely be a drop in the pan. I promise you, this won't get canceled because they're $1.2 million short. If a stadium gets built you'll be paying plenty, save your money.

If the American Airlines Arena, Office Depot Center, and Pro Player Stadium can sell their skyboxes for much more than that, why can't the Marlins?

HASN'T the attendance increased 30%? That's what they keep saying (or something along those lines). You talk about promotions? Everyone in my apartment complex here in BOCA just got Marlins flyers in the mail.
July 25, 200322 yr A couple of things. I'll keep it short. First there are (Miami-Dade County) convention & development dollars that are already out, from a tax implemented years ago, that can be used for a stadium. Much of it is paid by tourists visiting and staying in area hotels. In fact, if a stadium deal is not approved by the end of the year, the City of Miami Beach gets $50 million this pot. City pols are salivating over the prospect, you've never met a bunch of more anti-marlins/anti-stadium peeps in your life. Second, what have some value is selling futures on seats in the stadium, which in exchange for upfront $$$ would give the holder the rights to tickets to any game, performance, etc. at a discounted price. Just a thought.
July 25, 200322 yr The Marlins attendance goals for the season are being met and exceeded. So far we are averaging around 13,000 almost 14,000 per game at home. That is about a 35% increase over last season's 10,000 per game. This weekend wildcard series should help boost the attendance, we need to win the first two, if not all three games.

Just a thought. I personally believe that they can do this privately. Maybe they could create a ballpark ownership company and sell shares in it?

July 25, 200322 yr Not everyone will donate just one Dollar...there will be people donating 5-10 bucks a game..Maybe some rich Families 5000-10,000 and then there are the Hollywood Marlins fans like Kevin Kostner...$$$

July 25, 200322 yr There are poeple out there who would fork over thousands of dollars.... They are called minority equity owners.

July 25, 200322 yr The Chicago Bears actually sold the naming rights to the team! i wouldnt mind going to see "The Florida Marlins Presented By Pollo Tropical" at the brand new state of the art "Dolce & Gabanna Field" lol whop cares how Loria gets it done as long as it happens.
