Leiter either cuts it or he doesn't. Honeymoon based on the past is over.

I'm rooting for him tonight.

If, once again, he is terrible, then he should be bull-pen coach.

The whole thing of players just becoming coaches simply doesn't happen often. People talk about Lenny and Leiter doing this...it isn't common. Even Mordy is now in the MINORS as a coach.

If Leiter continues to pitch the way he has, something has to give. But sending an $8 million investment to the bullpen is simply not a wise choice, especially someone like Leiter, who, despite his shortcomings, is still a fan favorite.

Leiter has had two bad starts and you guys are already ready to make such a drastic (and utterly ridiculous) move like banishing him to bullpen coach? Just hysterical. I wonder what it's like to be as fickle as alot of you are. If Beckett throws back-to-back stinkers what will he be demoted to? batboy?

Leiter has had five straight seasons with a sub-4.00 ERA -- if you think all of a sudden he's going to implode you have another thing coming. All his starts so far haven't been very pretty, but he's kept us in all the games except for the two rocky outings. This isn't the first time he's gone through a rough stretch. I can't wait till Leiter turns it around and watch how 90% of you bashing him now won't have the guts to eat crow.

Despite his ERA his stats show he's had a significant amount of luck. He walked batters like crazy last year and the year before, averaged less than six innings per start...

Three of his last five starts have been atrocious. Even the game he won, he only went five innings.

any pun there?

I thought by BP you meant "batting practice", with the way Leiter has pitched lately.

That isn't luck -- it's a veteran pitcher knowing how to pitch despite not having his usual control. If Beckett or Burnett had the type of control problems Leiter is having right now, they'd be out by the secon inning (IE: Beckett in Philly). Despite the two terrible outings, he's given us a chance to win despite not having any control whatsoever.

He'll turn it around -- if his struggles continue, you can skip his next start, and move everyone up a spot and place Leiter as your 5th starter -- but the proposal of making him a bullpen coach is just laughable.

Leiter's difficult start is similar to how he opened 1999. While with the Mets, the lefty opened 1-4 and was at one stretch 2-5 with a 5.74 ERA. Even then, Leiter turned around his fortunes, finishing 13-12 with a 4.23 ERA

Al will turn it around, he has had bad starts before and came back strong each time, dont get hysterical over Leiter, he will be fine, maybe not 8 million dollars fine, but he will be a solid 4th starter by the end of the year, and with our big 3 in the rotaion, 13-15 wins is all we need from Leiter, cause in the playoffs, just like Beckett, he's a big game pitcher and will play well, just like he did with Pedro at shea earlier this season

He'll do well tonight

I'm not saying Leiter has pitched the way I would like for him to pitch, BUT for crissakes they gave Oliver 10 starts last year to figure something out. Jack knew coming in to the season Leiter was going to be short in the number of innings he could throw, so he set up his rotation accordingly. Let him get a few more starts in before the swan song gets played.

My dad asked me who's pitching tonight and I said you don't wanna know, then he sreamed O NO!!! Not Leiter!

Anyways, he needs to throw more strikes. He needs to understand that were not asking much out of him. Whenever we can skip him we will. And all we need out of him is 5 innings. But he hasn't been able to even do that!

He's been throwing a full games worth of pitches, lol. He came into the game averaging 19.9 pitches per inning. That's sad. When that changes, he'll start doing better.

When you throw a lot of balls, you have to throw a lot of pitches. Leiter just has to throw strikes and let the other team hit the ball so our great defense can try and get them out.

I don't think he gets it. I was a Leiter fan in 97 but you can tell he has progressively gotten worse every year. Even last year he gave up a grand slam to us. He walks too many people. He tries to nibble too much. I just watched him give up two runs and it's getting old. I say they put Moehler in the 4 spot and Valdez in the 5 when he gets back. Screw having a left-right-left rotation. Moehler has pitched lights out and hasn't gotten any run support. Leiter's ERA is like 6.00 or something.

Who wants a bum like him COACHING our good pitchers. You're being too kind. Let's make him the ball boy outside of the visitor's bullpen. And while we're changing things around, how about those numbers Moehller's been putting up in the last 4 weeks. Let's make him number 1 and move Beckett down to 2. And let's replace Lowell with Aguilla. Move Delgado down to 6th. Trade Gonzalez for Dotel and a tomahawk, and move Pierre to #2. Let Billy the Marlin lead off.

Do you even watch baseball? When you're 39 years old and have an 87 MPH fastball, you tend to "nibble too much". He can't throw a fastball by anyone anymore, so he has to hit the corners and jam players -- he's always been someone who walks alot of guys.

6 IP 2 ER tonight...yep...lets just release him now. You guys need to learn two starts doesn't make a season, you all will be eating crow soon enough

So lets get this straight -- Chris Aguila at 3b? Trade Gonzalez for Dotel when the A's already have Crosby? Brian Moehler our ace? :lol

jeez this is pathetic

pitched better tonight. i still cringe at the leadoff walks.

and 6 innings ain't much, but it's what we should expect from him.

anyway, he did much better tonight. had to pitch out of some jams, but can't complain about 6 IP, 1 run.

(oops, meant 2 runs... thanks marlins)

It was hopefully a joke.

Saying our mascot should leadoff is a clear sign that you should just ignore it.

I think alot of you are getting spoiled by Beckett/Burnett/Willis -- 6 IP 2 ER isnt much? Cmon -- 95% of the teams out there wish they could get that from their starters on a nightly basis.
