Every damn thread eventually degenerates into an argument about how great or awful Derek Lee is. I could start a thread on how the chicken fingers at Pro Player are actually not half bad, and 4 posts later it would be "I bet that chicken finger could hit better than .240 with runners in scoring position, etc, etc...."

Here you go gang...take sides and praise him or rip the heck out of him. Trade him, bench him, sign him to a 10 year deal, whatever.

Stop clogging up all the other threads with this stuff! Keep it here and you guys have a ball with it...

I heard we are trying to pry Conine from the O's again. But I don't think Lee would be in this deal though.

HOw about us only being 1.5 back now??/ Wow is that really impressive or what?

cricket...cricket...... tumbleweed blows across screen......cricket...cricket

lmao....

I Love watching D.lee, he is the MAN!!! his D is so Gold Glove like... and his 262 batting average is just as Good as Teddy Ballgame.....

oh cant for get we have played 105 games and he hs 59 RBI's "if that doesnt drop ya jaw? what will??"

not to mention the 22 Home Runs he has hit, he is so great, and so clutch

not much of a Diffrence between him and the Rookie Miggy, Miggy hits 350+ in RISP and lee just a 100 points lower.....

if Derrick Lee got hurt, we wouldnt even be contending,

D.Lee 4 MVP

Derrek Lee: Our 2nd best power hitter that plays GG defense. He will play a large part of our run to the wild card...

Clutch hits exist, however clutch hitting is not a skill, it is a gift.

Clutch hits exist, however clutch hitting is not a skill, it is a gift.

Amazing how that gift changes from year to year for almost every player.

Even more amazing is that D. Lee forgets to unwrap his gift until at least late June every year.

its a Mental Skill "what are you talking about"?????

Mike Jordan takes shots at end the games cuz he knows Mentally he can make it and win the game and mostly does, as does Kobe.....

Jeter does the same, its not about just doing it once, its when a person does it ova and ova and ova again... you become Mentally Stable and Cocky..

and if the Mind can think it, the body can concieve it.....

you know if D.lee hit 191 and had 10 Jacks but some how hit 300+ with RISP i would love the guy, but you cant have a guy in a Game 7 batting with 2 outs, down 1 run, not Mentally Stable, " cuz in the back ya head u think, damn i have been Brutal all year with RISP, and here i am in the biggest game of my life and if i dnt get a hit we lose"......

i understand not everybody can hit 300+ with RISP... and that cool but adleast be Average

nicely played Fish, very nice

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you very much - I'll be here all week. And don't forget to tip your waitresses.

Its ok...your just in denial. :p

:deal sign him

Shamrock...I was watching SportsCenter last nite as they were talking about where Lance Armstrong compares to the great players in different sports. They mentioned Jordan, Tiger, Navratilova (sp?), etc. They also mentioned Reggie Jackson...and said how he hit like 50 points higher in the postseason.

But back to the topic. Shamrock is absolutely correct. Lee is our 2nd best power hitter (by far...next closes is Pudge (8 HRs back)), and is Gold Glove material at 1st. Not to mention he leads 1B in the NL in steals (16) by about 10.

Holy s***....... it just dawned on my a**......

we are 1.5 games outta the WILD CARD lead... "WOW"......

we sweep the D.backs " we will be in 1st place in the WIld Card tomorrow and by our self on Wednesday, cuz no way in hell do i see that Philly Offense spanking LA Pitching...

WOW we have come a long a** way :D

but if he opens his gift when it counts.... meaning now.... thats fine with me

keep bashing him boys, he is playing better because of it

:deal sign him

...And then trade him. :fish

sign him to 2 or 3 year deal. At least until Stokes is ready. Then we'll see where to go from there (depending on if Stokes pans out, and how Lee is playing/costing).

Whoever said that was lying to you and all sports fans across the country.

In 17 post-season series, Reggie Jackson hit .278 in 281 at-bats. His career batting average was .262. So he hit 16 pts better in postseason play than in regular season play. But like I said, that .278 average was based on 281 at-bats. Do you know what the difference is between a .278 BA over 281 at-bats and a .262 BA over 281 at-bats? About 4 hits.

Don't take everything you hear at face value.

Maybe it Meant his WS Average?

Maybe it Meant his WS Average?

If they meant World Series, they should've said World Series. When the most popular sports network on television says Reggie Jackson hit 50 points better in the postseason, people will believe that he hit 50 points better in the postseason. Which he didn't.

Reggie Jackson did indeed hit very well in World Series play (.357 BA, 95 pts higher than his career average, though based on only 98 at-bats). But think about the main point we're debating: that Reggie Jackson was a great clutch hitter. Jackson hit .357 in World Series play...but only .235 (in 183 at-bats) in ALCS play. Is an ALCS not a "clutch situation" as well? If Jackson had this innate ability to perform better in the clutch, why did he perform so poorly in ALCS play? Does anyone seriously think that his "clutchness" only came into play during the World Series? That he didn't consider the ALCS important enough to display his clutch prowess? That his focus increased during the biggest series of the year, but not during the second biggest series of the year?

Or maybe, just maybe, his success in the World Series is just due to the randomness of baseball. God forbid.

Probably the best argument Ive seen on this subject, but I'm sure it wont even make a dent. It will take the media to come out and say it before they will believe.

I guess the post was so good it scared all the naysayers away from even responding. lol! Good job DR.
