Zambrano Told No More Computer Time...

Featured Replies

Cubs right-hander Carlos Zambrano has been told to cut back on his computer time because the hours he's spending typing could be contributing to his elbow problems.

Zambrano said he had been logging about four hours a day communicating via e-mail with his brother.

"I have to spend one hour and take it easy," Zambrano said.

Zambrano looked fine Saturday, allowing just one hit in seven innings against the White Sox.

"It's not carpal tunnel, but if you don't watch it, who knows what it can lead to? We are trying to alleviate it," Cubs manger Dusty Baker said.

The Cubs were told after Zambrano had to leave his May 14 start against Washington early with a sore elbow that was the result of a non-pitching condition and activity. So they also told Zambrano to lighten up on his batting practice.

"I feel completely healthy," Zambrano said.

When I read this, I found it too damn funny. Forget the fact that Dusty has already ruined the career of Prior and just put the final nail in the coffin for Kerry Wood's, let's blame the computer for what's going wrong with Zambrano. Priceless...

Like they said last night on Sportscenter.......

Throwing 106 pitches a start has nothing to do with it....

it's that d*mn computer's fault!!!!!

MarlinsBaseball.comer Moneyball has been placed on the 60 day DL. Most likely he will need Tommy John surgery. His high post count has finally caught up to him.

Off-Topic, but why is your s/n Pudge Beckett when you're a Cardinals fan?

Actually, i was watching where they said his pain was. If you put your palm to the sky, the pain was on that side of his elbow... pain from a sore elbow from pitching would be on the other side.

"Ruined the career of Prior".... give me a break.

If this happened in 6 innings of work, that's bad. But these are big guys going the distance. Think for yourselves for once. It's all about pitches an inning.

Oh, and by the way, pitchers throw 106 pitches all the time. Damn.

I'm pretty sure Vazquez threw almost 100 yesterday and that was a complete game shutout, only giving up 5 hits.

Dontrelle Willis averages 14 pitches per inning. 98 per start. (3 6 inning games, 1 5 inning game)

Josh Beckett averages 17 pitches per inning. 99 per start. (3 6 inning games, 1 5 inning game, 1 2 inning game)

A.J Burnett averages 15 pitches per inning. 103 per start. (5 6 inning games)

Zambrano averages 16 pitches per inning. 106 per start. (4 games under 7 IP)

Prior averages 15 pitches per inning. 104 per start. (Only 3 games under 7 IP)

Not very different and I dont hear ANY bitching about how Jack manages his staff you biased cub hating homers.

Pitchers are the most spoiled players on a baseball team. In the 70s and 80s pitchers had much higher pitch counts and pitched more innings, and it wasnt even second guessed.

Why dont you guys stop sipping that teal drink and keep your Dusty Baker and Cub hate at the door.

If anything it is your own beloved skipper who is wearing out his pitchers faster.

E-mail? Dude is looking at porn.

I was watching Sportscenter this morning and I heard that and I told my father, "Yeah, that and the fact that he throws over 130 pitches every game he's in".

I don't think his arm problems are due to him being overworked, but to blame it on him being on a computer is absurd, and something we've all come to expect from Dusty Baker.

POTY material right there. :mischief

The AP article conveniently left out this quote by the trainer. Apparently Dusty Baker's wife had something like this happen to her and she even bought Zambrano something to help.... so she just suggested maybe that was the problem... but like the trainer said, it might not even be from the computer.. its just tennis elbow.. not necessarily from downloading por.... err, writing his borther.

"It's not carpal tunnel [syndrome]," Cubs athletic trainer Mark O'Neal said. "To sit there and say it's a computer issue, that's not 100 percent true. It's tennis elbow. It could be from batting. There's no telling where it came from."

I'm not blaming Dusty for anyone's injury (in fact I don't even buy that explanation), but to equate Dusty's use of his starters to Jack's is nuts.

Tennis elbow can occur from anything.

There may be something with his mechanics...even the smallest thing can cause it.

The Gooch has been pwned, but of course won't admit as much.

Dusty makes a mockery of managing pitching staffs, the injury problems the Cubs starters have aren't just bad luck.....

And to say a computer caused this injury to Zambrano is laughable, what morons do they expect to believe that??

I'm not the brightest on the subject, but how much difference is it to make 5 or 6 more pitches in a game...those averages are very darn close. These pitchers are professional athletes, a difference of 5 pitches isn't going to mean anything.

The differences are acutally more like 10 pitches a game, times 30 starts to be conservative, and that's 300 extra pitches, or 3 extra starts worth, for a season.

That can add up.

Give me a break on this pitch count crap... do you guys count warm up pitches and throws to first base as well?

How many Cubs arms must you see consistently getting hurt before you admit something is up?

780789

Where does it say that the computer caused the injury? It is a precaution from more things turning up. And be quiet White Sock fan to say you arent VERY biased in this discussion is an outright lie. Got anymore anti-Baker links to share Craig?

I dont care either way, and I, seriously dont think injuries to the Cub pitching staff are because of Dusty Baker. And Craig, to say Zambrano is 'injured' is hillarious, considering he gave up only 1 hit to the amazing White Sox in 7 innings.

And Shaq-Man, I was comparing Jack and Dusty just to prove a point to 'Marlin Fans' who constantly belittle and talk s*** about Baker when their claims are unfounded. If you could, please link where you found those previous pitch counts, Im J/C.

What arms are consistently getting hurt?

Kerry Wood has been a constant on the DL BEFORE Dusty Baker came around...

Zambrano has a little tennis elbow so that causes an uprising?

What am I missing here?

780853

Kerry Wood has pitched since 1998...so should we blame Dusty for injuries that could have resulted from 1998-2002?

Mark Prior has never gone on the D.L for an arm related injury.

Orlando Hernandez just went on the D.L....should we blame Ozzie for overworking him?

Injuries happen to pitchers, its the nature of the beast. To blame it on +100 pitch games is ridiculous.
