Starters: Pedro Martinez (4-1, 3.14 era) @ Brian Moehler (2-1, 2.13 era)

On the heels of two bad losses, look for the Marlins to get another quality start from Brian Moehler, and look for the Marlins hitters to have the eye of the tiger. They want a win and I have a good feeling about this one. Sure it's Pedro, but we've got the Moehl-man. Hazzah!

I predict Moehler gets the W, pitching 7 innings and allowing 2 runs. Martinez gets the loss, allowing two runs in the first inning and two in the sixth, he pitches 5 2/3 innings.

Over the last three years, Pedro's worst month statistically has been May. He has a 3.36 era and a

.240 BAA. Let's inflate those stats even more.

Let's go fish!!!!

Sometimes you have to go out on a limb.

Yahoo! Sports Game Preview

Pedro Martinez hopes the New York Mets saved some of their offense from Thursday for his start.

Martinez and the Mets will look to make it two straight wins when they resume their four-game series against the Marlins at Dolphins Stadium.

Martinez has been the ace the Mets were hoping to see when they signed him in the offseason, going 4-1 with a 3.14 ERA and 73 strikeouts in nine starts. The three-time Cy Young Award winner could easily be 6-1 if not for some bullpen meltdowns and poor defense.

Sporting a 3-1 record and a 1.74 ERA in six career starts at Florida, Martinez will try to help the Mets close the gap on the first-place Marlins in the NL East.

The Mets moved within four games of the Marlins with Thursday's 12-4 win. New York had been shut out in its last two games in Atlanta and had not scored in 19 innings before finishing with 14 hits, including six for extra bases.

Jose Reyes tripled twice Thursday and leads the majors with seven. He also tripled twice on May 18 against Cincinnati.

``The moment I see the ball in the gap I start thinking third base,'' Reyes said. ``We had two difficult games in Atlanta and it was only a matter of time before we would start producing. What was so important was that everybody contributed to the victory.''

The Marlins have allowed 31 hits over the last two games. They also issued eight walks on Thursday.

``It didn't matter who we put out there tonight,'' Florida manager Jack McKeon said. ``They were either going to hit them or we were going to walk them.''

Carlos Delgado, who homered Thursday for the Marlins, has six home runs and 20 RBIs over the last 22 games. He's hitting .325 in May to lift his overall batting average to .312.

Stat of the Day:

Brian Moehler has yet to allow more than two runs in any of his 10 appearances, including six starts.

We need it tonight. This game will be the difference between winning this series and settling for a draw against an inferior team missing their best hitter. I have confidence in Moe. He's been a real find for us through the first two months.

Nah. It's a common misconception though.
