Posted June 19, 200519 yr Mark Kotsay? Kotsay is on the block, but has a 6.5 mil tag. So Pierre or Juan will have to go Is he worth it?
June 19, 200519 yr Beane has said a few times that he wants to lock Kotsay up after this season, I doubt he's moved.
June 19, 200519 yr Good player. Better than either two, with his overall talent falling somewhere in between. Don't know if he's a great fit or what we need though.
June 19, 200519 yr beane also doesnt draft high school pitchers yet he did a lot of that a couple weeks ago.
June 19, 200519 yr He would fit ideally into the two spot with Luis leading off. Great centerfielder, but it would surprise me if he were on the block
June 19, 200519 yr I'd love to have Kotsay back, but would rather part with Enc than Pierre to get him.
June 19, 200519 yr Id love to see Kotsay back in Teal but dammit, give Willingham a shot before we go trading for all these guys with big salaries

June 19, 200519 yr So you want to trade Pierre/Lowell/Enc for Kotsay and what else? Zito? 817051 Definetly a starting pitcher.
June 19, 200519 yr you guys want to give up PIERRE!!!! Are you crazy! 817162 nope :thumbup
June 20, 200519 yr beane also doesnt draft high school pitchers yet he did a lot of that a couple weeks ago. 816742 This a great point Das. I read this the other day. i was hoping someone would mention this. I hope Moneyball read this. :thumbup
June 20, 200519 yr Somewhere there is a 3 way trade possibility involving Enc leaving and Kotsay coming back home.

It's not like he drafted toolsy outfielders who are high risk high reward type picks.
June 20, 200519 yr I'm still in the "if you gotta trade Juan Encarnacion and Jeff Conine goes to right" club I still say Alex "Mr. 350 BA" Sanchez is not the worst guy to have on the bench. On the otherhand Aguila is absolutely on fire (.368) in Albuquerque now that he's getting a chance to play every day. I see no reason right now to pay a Kotsay $6 million a year for a guy with 4 HRs and a .275 BA even though I like and respect him as a major league player.

I read this the other day. i was hoping someone would mention this. I hope Moneyball read this. :thumbup 817487 Had you read Moneyball, you'd know that one of main reasons why the A's focused on college pitchers were that their stats - which in their view is a telling sign of future success - could be cheapily evaluated by the level of competition and sample size. Thus cutting back on scouting costs. It's much like how some teams focus on specific areas of known baseball talent (i.e. Braves and Georgia pitchers) rather than scout the entire country.

What's your point in hoping I had read that? First off I have never said anything against drafting high school pitchers. Furthermore just because I'm into the Moneyball system doesn't mean I agree with everything Billy Beane does. Nor will I defend everything he says and does if it goes against what I believe. I'm neutral on this issue of high school pitchers. Don't throw this at me as if I were a Moneyball Kool Aid drinker. :thumbup

June 20, 200519 yr If yall want to trade Pierre, I'd rather talk to NY and try to make a run at Sheff or Matsui.
