its called chemistry buddy. winning brings chemistry. the 03 marlins got on a roll the second half and look how well they got along. unless these 05 marlins start doing some consistent winning it doesnt matter how you compare the lineups, they will continue to fail.

something just doesnt smell right up in that clubhouse and its not just al leiters tidy whities.

no, chemistry is not what's missing.

you said it yourself, it's winning that brings chemistry.

winning is what's missing. and what brings winning? runs and good pitching. the marlins do not score runs on most nights. that's what's missing.

Might be stretching things, and it's a sloppy comparison.....

But I'd be willing to bet that if JP was getting on base at his first half #s from 2004, and Mike Lowell had his first half slugging #s of '04, we'd have scored enough additional runs to turn maybe 4 of our losses into wins, which would make us 6 games over at the break, thus lowering the marlinsbaseball.com suicide rate by approximately 50%.

this is why the FO's hands are tied....really, other than our pitching injuries, this team should be set. and frankly, the offense should be good enough to absorb the pitching injuries better than we have. they know it's bad business to trade any of these guys, because realistically it's unreasonable to expect an improvement over what they SHOULD be doing on paper.

I will say this, all of our team numbers - .OBP, .SLG, team BA, home run totals, BA with runners in scoring position - seem right in line with where we were at in 2003. The biggest difference? In 2003 we led the league in stolen bases, and even though our numbers tapered off after Jack became manager, we were still 7th in the league after the all-star break. This season we're 17th out of 30, with less than half the total of the league leader, the first-place Chicago White Sox.

I concur. There was something very special about the team when he was on it!

Our team numbers seem right because everyone is in Derrek Lee mode(with the Marlins) where they hit in blowouts but not in close games...

It would help if Pierre was a consistent .300 hitter this season and Lowell had about 15HRs and 65 rbis. It would also help if Al Lieter was Mark Redman of 1997.

The names may be the same but thats meaningless...Willie Mays played for the Mets too.

That would make them 10 games over .500... and 0.5 game back of the wild card.

While i dont want to put it on Jack because in the end the players havent gotten it done I wonder if Jack's message and the style he conveys his message has worn thin. Plus as someone else has said very similar lineups except several key players arent producing and much of the positive offensive numbers have come about through blow outs not the numerous close games the Marlins have played.

I don't know if Jack started the big slump...but I don't see him as the type who can end it. I don't like the hitting coach and the 3rd base coach either, but it is up to the players to play like they can even in spite of lackluster management and bad coaching. :plain
