fanofthefish
I see a post on Yahoo where P-Dub (Preston Wilson) has just been picked up by the Nats and see ESPN bottom line where they got Mike Stanton, when, what are the Fish going to do? Anyone think the FO has given up on this season? With the rumors swirling around AJ it looks like the team is scaling back this years charge. The old saying goes if it ain't broke don't fix it, but IMO the Marlins look broke.
Ramp
what does getting Preston accomplish?
DogFish
occasional HR and quite a few Ks
rferry
All the Nats have been for inconsequential pieces. And the PDub trade hurts their club. Nothing to push the Marlins into taking action. The Marlins' not living up to their expectations should though.
Boog Sciambi
what i don't understand is that this is the THIRD "QUALITY" relief pitcher that has turned aside the marlins and gone in another direction..my question is WHY?
rferry
In no particular order... 1. Place in standings 2. Fan support, the town, etc. 3. Number of viable relief candidates on the roster, minors and DL 4. The manager, coaching staff, training staff, front office 5. The role offered 6. Prospective opportunities and willingness to pay after this season
MarlinsFan253
Preston Wilson won't help the Nats much, me thinks.
DogFish
What is your definition of QUALITY? If they have been released, the use of this word in this context is questionable. Experienced, major league relievers would be a better definition IMO
rferry
Well, would Stanton be a quality reliever by those standards? I would think not. You have to think he and his agent looked at the names Jones, Mota, Mecir, Bump, Riedling, Perisho, Leiter, Alfonseca, Spooneybarger, Valdez and the immense pitching talent the Marlins have in high-A/AA/AAA and thought his chances might be limited here. Washington, if I recall, has no lefty on either their major or AAA roster. [Edit: They do have Eischen so that's one]
WildMarlinMan2003
Wilson's big season was at Coors. He won't be as big as people think. Vargas, Olsen, Willis, Burnett, and Beckett means our rotation is amazing! Valdez, Leiter, and Moehler- we have so many SPs!!! NEED SOME HITTING!!!!!!! FutureGM
The Nationals likely hurt themselves by trading a good starting pitcher for an OFer they don't need.
legacyofCangelosi
Can everyone please stop saying how are rotation is awesome and mentioning vargas. Hes unproven as of now in the bigs. He can be another olsen or another joe fontenot
Fishin2004
by the way...anyone who thinks our current front office has made the occasional bad deal (Leiter, Lowell) - check out what a cripplingly bad contract that Preston Wilson contract turned out to be from our previous regime. I mean, he's hitting .258 this season - and that's inflated by Coors Field - and he's making $12 million bucks. what were they thinking???? it's not like we had a ton of money to throw around, either. odom006
i think them getting p funk is great...... he wont hit 300 but he can hit 30-35 bombs and may even drive in a 90-100 RBI's....... p-funk was a fish at 1 time so we all reaady know what he's all about....... it wont decreaase the chances of the nats it can only help them..... look on the bright side we get to see more of p-dub Mr. 30-30.......
