Posted July 17, 200519 yr For your Florida Marlins: Jason Vargas (0-0, 0.00) For the Arizona Diamondbacks: Mike Gosling (0-2, 4.61) Scouting Report: Vargas, who made a rapid rise through the minor league system, makes his Major League starting debut after working in relief Thursday. The Marlins' second-round draft pick in 2004, the left-hander opened the 2005 season in low Class A Greensboro and worked his way through Class A Jupiter to Double-A Carolina, where he was 1-0 with a 2.84 ERA, striking out 25 in 19 innings. Vargas is filling a rotation spot opened when Al Leiter was designated for assignment. Gosling pitched the final game before the All-Star Break for the Diamondbacks, and despite not receiving a decision, the left-hander was outstanding. Gosling did not allow a run in 5 2/3 innings against the Reds. Gosling got married during the break, exchanging his vows Tuesday in San Diego.

July 18, 200519 yr any word on starting line ups? is Lowell in it tonight? I wanna see another mikey homerun before he goes poof
July 18, 200519 yr I was checking to see if there were any #'s on gosling pitching to our hitters and there aren't any, so I am guessing we've never faced him. I am also guessing that if Lowell isn't in the lineup then something is up and it's only a matter of time we hear something.
