futureslugger
"That shows you something about loyalty vs. greed in sports today. I think its worse in baseball than it is in any other sport. " that is very true. it probably wouldn't be like that if the MLB had a salary cap. like a lot of the other leagues.
musk
Burnett is not coming back. Florida is not going to offer him as much money as bigger pay roll teams can and will. And he will chase the dollar like 99% of pro athletes do. I dont know how this is such a hot topic since all of us tend to agree.
The Big Hurt
Look...lets be realistic....yeah... he will most probably sign with another team after the offseason. So it makes perfect sense if we are not in contention to trade him. But right now, the offers we are getting are not what we anticipated. I mean, cmmon... is Jorge Julio and Admin Bigbie going to do anythign for us in the future. I think not. If the deal would have included Daniel Cabrera and them taking most of Mike's contract, then it would make complete sense. We need a cheap, young, talented pitcher in return... other than that, no deal would make sense. For now, none of the offers are actually worth it. So I say keep him. We have a very good chance to make the playoffs if we just win some games. Unless we get something in return that will help us build towards the future, I say dont do the trade..... I mean, really...what the hell is Bigbie gonna do for us?! I rather have Conine or Easiley out there. And Julio....hes OK...nothing special... rferry
He has been fighting with the current management since they took over the team. He is not re-signing. He knows a trade is imminent. If he wants to put on a good face. I do think he is sincere in that he will miss some teammates.
jam31
Hey guys Im new here and dont be mad at me but yes I am an Orioles fan. Please dont shoot! I honestly like your team because 1 I prefer national league ball and 2 i like to watch good young pitching which is what you guys have always seem to had. That said, I am the most anxious O's fan because being an O's fan I am desperate for them to make a move. We need a frontline pitcher and it seems that AJ is best that is out there. So I ask you objectively, after reading thru some post on here first, to give me your take on AJ and how well do you think he could do in the AL East as our first or second starter. I appreciate all insights b/c as much as I've watched him pitch I don't really know much about how he is as a teammate, the intangible stuff etc etc... Thanks for your time. jam31
So what do you guys think of the trade overall? To me AJ is a guy with lights out stuff but tends to have lots of walk if not hits. But like you said, being the O's, we're desperate and we need a power arm (besides Cabrera) to compliment Bedard. So who gets the better of the deal in your opinions? Granted Im beginning to doubt the O's will make this happne b/c ANgelos is such a prick but still.... I think its pretty good for you in that: Bigbie is a solid starting leftfielder. He can give you .275, 20 HR, and 80 RBI and he's good defensively and runs real well too. Julio....well the guy needs a change of scenery b/c he has great stuff but man he just seems to choke up here whenver the challenge becomes too great Penn - Is our best minor league pitcher and he's done well this year in at Camden yards despite being only 20. I think he's gonna be real good but prolly 2-3 years down the road for that. He's struggled for the past month since the O's sent him back down b/c the kid stopped trusting his fastball. Anyway, so thats my take on my players - So who gets the better end of the deal here IF IF IF IF IF this actually goes down????
Guest Juanky
what's he gonna say? "get me out of here....i hate this organization and all my teammates"? please. maybe he would like to stay here, but if he signs an extension with Baltimore, what does that tell you about where his priorities are? Cliff Floyd wasn't exactly amicable when his name was the one on the open market now was he.

The trade is highway robbery and I will hate Baltimore forever :thumbup To summarize in brief words what I've been saying for a few days -> Admin Bigbie has no place here and he sucks anyways, Julio is maybe the fourth best arm in our pen if that, and Penn might be your best pitching pitching prospect but he would 3 or worse for us. Chasecdt
If he truly wants to stay, he should march right into Beinfest's office, have them conference call with Loria, and get an extension in the works.? Although, if he does stay, that sets up a sick rotation next season: Willis, Beckett, Olsen, Burnett, and Vargas. 866598 Your right that would be a sick rotation next season. I see a lot of potential in Olsen and Vargas.

MaRLiNs_FaN_4EvA
Perfect Example: Edgar Renteria. 6 years as a St. Louis Cardinal. Went to numberous postseasons and a World Series with them. Was loved in the clubhouse and loved everyone in the clubhouse. Was on of Tony's favorite players. Left to boston for $1 million more a year. Thats all it took to break a 6 year relationship with one of the most winningest baseball teams in history, a manager that loved him, players that loved him, and possibly one of the best cities to play in (he would have never gotten boo'd in STL). That shows you something about loyalty vs. greed in sports today. I think its worse in baseball than it is in any other sport. 866661 ok good point...but how are you not sure that edgar wanted to leave the cardinals and start fresh at a new place like he did in Boston?? This is the Boston Red Sox we're talking about here, if the D-Rays, the Royals, or pretty much ANY other team not named the Yankees offered him just $1 million more a year, I can assure you that he would not have left St. Louis. Most players would do anything to be able to play for the Red Sox or Yankees.
Admin
Like I said, it wouldn't be hard, to pull Beinfest aside away from all the other players, tell him you want to stay, get Loria on the phone in a conference call and get the financial parameters set, see what Beinfest's plan is for the offseason and how AJ signing would affect that, and see if the 3 could come to a medium on the agreement. The Orioles organiational strength is the same as ours, starting pitching prospects.
Flag Man
Still smarting over the Hampton deal. Rather keep Mikey as the most expensive defensive player in the NL than pay half his salary for him to play for another team. Who knows. There might be an miracle on offense. Seperate the AJ deal. We're not taking three of your headaches with a crappy outfielder and someone who'll be a 4 or 5 with us for an ace. - I don't care about 2-3 years from now, because 2-3 years from now we might not have a team in South Florida. Thanks for caring so much about our future though. You guys can keep Penn, we'll keep AJ.

Are they going to fill an article about AJ not minding pitching with Carl Pavano with quotes about him staying in Florida? Of course not. But wait, the article today is BS because it was written with the express reason for AJ staying, however this one is true even though it was written by the author to say AJ was leaving and Burnett still managed to sneak in a quote about staying? The man can't win with you people.
