July 25, 200521 yr So all us Marlin fans should do what: 1. Root, root, root that the home team has financial flexibility and top prospects, or 2. Root, root, root that we win the World Series this year. You can't have it both ways. 'cause we don't have much chance of winning the World Series without AJ. 873435 I think you should take time to consider what might be acquired from a trade including A.J. or pieces made expendable afterward. In general, I think you need to open yourself to new ideas. Over the course of the season, you've seem a bit close-minded. 873571 I'd prefer to call it single minded instead of close minded. I liked the overall balance of the team on April 1 and I still like it. It's been a long long time since I've seen the team that I root for have such a good overall team. Maybe you can wait 30 years for it to happen again, but I don't think I'll be around. None of the trade farts has impressed me. I've always said that everyone is possibly expendable at the right price, and I'm not close minded in saying we should have 0 trades. It's possible that a trade may come along that betters the team this year. I'll let you know what I think if that happens.
September 27, 200520 yr Author The Marlins haven't improved, Mike Lowell is still a .230 hitter and AJ is still a .500 pitcher who won't be back next year. Amazing.
September 27, 200520 yr The Marlins haven't improved, Mike Lowell is still a .230 hitter and AJ is still a .500 pitcher who won't be back next year. Amazing. Amen. Should have traded them and got some value while the Fish had the chance. I know of 2 teams named the Sox that would have overpaid......big time.

(said in the voice of chief wiggum) Don't get me wrong, I'd rather Lowell turned around and hit 30 HRs and AJ won 20 games... but it sure would be nice to have that Lowell money to spend on a SP to replace AJ and a bullpen or an OF or SS. Hindsight is always 20/20. Should be an interesting offseason.
September 27, 200520 yr I love when people ressurect old threads then play the result and try to look so wise.

I wanted the perfect deal, and to me the perfect deal was not with Baltimore. As far as the offseason is concerned...is this the last year on Mike's contract? If so, then I only think it's worth trading him if A) we don't have a to pay an inordinate amount of his salary or B) don't have to part with any top prospects. If he has two years left, then it's probably worth it to give us some salary and position flexibility. In the event that we keep him, I hope he proves me wrong with a season full of vintage Lowell.

Lowell has 2 more years left on his contract after this season.. due 9 mil in each year. Marlins Payroll details
September 27, 200520 yr The FO made the right decision keeping AJ. The team was leading the WC 2 weeks ago. That's deep in September. The huge meltdown is another story in itself.
September 27, 200520 yr Rereading why some wanted us to keep both AJ and Lowell, I'm saddened to learn they'll probably be here in the offseason too.
September 27, 200520 yr I still want to keep Mike. I think he can fix himself up and he has shown that. As for AJ... que se vaya pa'l carajo.
