Only 4.5 games back

Featured Replies

We're now only 4.5 games back in the wild card race and if the D-Backs can hang on, we'll be 4.5 games back in the division.

You guys all talked about how these are must win games, well we won both series. Wasn't it just a week or two ago that we were 7.5 or 8 GB?

We started at 7 GB after the break. We're right back in this. Nice turnaround.

Problem is, we're still at the same record we were heading into the All-Star Break, which isn't good enough. Once we erase the 3 game sweep by the Cubs and get back to 5 over, I will breathe a sigh of relief that we can truly have a chance to get back on top.

A 5-5 road trip in which we gain 2.5 games? haha

I'll take it. Got a real tough stretch coming up 21 games in 20 days, but thing is only the Cards are the only real good team.(Washington too but they struggling need to take 2 of 3 from them)

And every media guy on tv tonight will begin their broadcast by referring to the "last place Florida Marlins".

it's true though, we are the dawgs

It really would have been nice to get atleast one of those games vs. the Cubs. Oh well, its great that no one has really pulled away yet. We're definitely in it. Will be an interesting trade deadline, as it always is.

That's true....and that's fine with me. I think high expectations going in is somewhat to blame for the first half performance, and the way the media has covered the team, and the fan's reactions. Now that expectations are lower, this is when we do our best work.

I'd rather be in last place and 4.5 games back than be in second place and be 10 games back...There are still a ton of games left within the division so 4.5 games can easily be made up if the Fish play well these last couple of months.

The Nats lost Guillen for a couple days thanks to a hand injury... all the better for us. Hope we start taking off... everyone is swinging a good bat... we just better not all go cold at the same time :plain

It's always hard to ask for a sweep, but we need one vs. Pittsburgh.

With Atlanta and Washington playing each other, a sweep means we come out of that series no worse than 2.5 out of the Wild Card.

I don;t disagree with the notion that lower expectations may entice some players to outperform, but I'm thinking more of the gate attendance and the impact it has when all weekend the media, including the press, refers the the Marlins as "the last place Marlins".

Good point.

A sweep against the Pirates? Hmm... All I ask for now is that we win the first game of the series. That is a rarity. It could mean good things.

I'd be perfectly happy if we consistently took 2/3 from teams instead of sweeping the occasional crappy team and being swept the next series.

Agreed.

This team needs to stay consistent and keep its momentum. With almost 2 months left and a division/playoff race as close as this one, any kind of momentum loss or significant losing streak could hurt this team's chances of making the playoff. We still don't know what the future is going to hold with A.J. Burnett and Mike Lowell, but after today, the loss of A.J. could be very big for this team.

Having said all that, I feel better about this team today than I did almost 3 weeks ago as we were entering the All Star Break. :thumbup

I think that's right where we want it, as far as making a run. No one respects us, man...no one respects us. :plain
