August 7, 200322 yr Mike Berardino had a good point on his hourly radio show today.... As big of a monster year that Preston Wilson's having with the Rockies, and as much as some might complain about having Pierre instead of Preston's RBIs out there, Mike brought up a pretty good stat. His OPS (on-base + slugging %) is over 1.000 at Coors field, but on the road it's about .810 which is about average for an outfielder. His career OPS coming into this season was .805. So (as most people predicted) he is taking advantage of a great hitters park and a team that gets on base a lot. At Coors he's a great player and everywhere else he just isn't. This isn't to take anything away from Preston, I like him. But it's a good stat to think about. Once again Coors Field proves what it can do.
August 7, 200322 yr I would like to see his rbi differentials, and i wouldnt say he is just average everywhere else, the guy is probablly my favorite player, he's got good speed, got a good arm, hits for power, and average (this year, finally), and i think is one of the most underated defensive outfielders in the game, that guy can really go and get it, and you gotta love the sideburns......im really happy for him, he deserves to be having this career year and im really happy he made the all star team and got a hit...did he get two? i cant remember....anyways, go P wil !!!
August 7, 200322 yr PWil needed to get out of Florida. I loved the guy same as I love DLee, and I don't see DLee coming out of his funk til he is out of Florida. As I remember the boards where as down on Wilson as much as they where Lee right?
August 8, 200322 yr As I remember the boards where as down on Wilson as much as they where Lee right? P-Willy was clutch. Everybody knew Preston would/could be an MVP player at Coors. Hell, I heard some predictions from people saying he'd hit somewhere in-between 45-55 HR's and 135-155 RBI. The funny thing is, he's having a career year, and he won't even have his 5th 20/20 season. :lol
August 8, 200322 yr it was never really a question that his success is do to the ball park.....but regardless, he's havin a good season
August 8, 200322 yr I'm glad he's gone. I could not stand another year of him striking out on curveballs. I think he does well in Coors because breaking balls don't break (nearly as much) there.
August 8, 200322 yr I'm sick and tired of people ripping on PDub. He is turning into one of the premier offensive outfielders in the game today. And Berardino (and everyone else) is out to lunch by excusing his production as a result of being in Coors. Forget looking at OPS, just go look at his season splits home and away... Very similar. I know we couldn't keep him, but he is turning into the man and I would take him over about 95 percent of outfielders today.
August 8, 200322 yr I knew that Coors Field would have a large effect on him, and there's the evidence.
August 8, 200322 yr Preston is having a good year, maybe he can be a candidate for MVP! I agree but he needs his team to make the Playoffs to win it.
August 8, 200322 yr I knew that Coors Field would have a large effect on him, and there's the evidence. Read Fish Fillet's post. OPS is jack s***. Just look at Preston's split stats, and you'd see they are very similar.
August 8, 200322 yr Read Fish Fillet's post. OPS is jack s***. Just look at Preston's split stats, and you'd see they are very similar. Yes finally seeing the truths about stats........ PW deserve his credit for having a great season.I'm not surprise that he is playing at the level he is.
August 8, 200322 yr I personally like Preston, but I'll take Juan Pierre any day. agree with you , one reason i would take Juan is because gets on base more , hardest man to K ( Wilson is very easy to K ) steals almost more bases than Wilson , so that makes more opp for the Marlins hitter to bring him home :shifty

August 8, 200322 yr yes i would , but does he play like that no , so i would take Juan over him He did in 2000. Remember? You know, when he hit 31 HR's, stole 37 bases, hit in the high . 280's... I'd take that Preston over Pierre, too.

August 8, 200322 yr 1 time , did he ever do it again no , and dont say it because of his family problem If somebody does something once, you know they're capable of doing it again.
August 8, 200322 yr If somebody does something once, you know they're capable of doing it again. yea but what i am trying to say , did he ever do it again with us ? No when he left they tarted hitting , Just like everyone that leaves the Marlins

I have always like Wilson, but I knew he had to leave last year. If Wilson had the same contract the Juan has I would take Wilson over Pierre.
August 8, 200322 yr No when he left they tarted hitting , Just like everyone that leaves the Marlins That doesn't seem to reflect well on the Marlins, does it?
