Posted September 1, 200519 yr the kid has enormous talent and potential, but you guys are setting expectations that are through the roof. yaeh the grand slam was awsome but it was lucky to come up with the bases loaded. i mean the kid has only had one ab and yeah it was a studly ab but immediately 8-10 threads pop up proclaiming hermida to be a combination of ruth, dimmagio, and williams.... i am starting to think that hitting the grand slam could be a curse and a blessing. it is a blessing because his confidence level is to heaven right now , but its a curse because there is alot of pressure on him to meet the expectations that you guys are unfoundedly putting on him... and the grand slam was all for not as we lost anyway. i am not bellitleing hermidas accomplishment but i am just putting this out there :whistle
September 1, 200519 yr Why not just let the kid play and see what he does? Even if he never came up at all last night, I still want him to get playing time.
September 1, 200519 yr We just need him to be better than a .230 hitter with no power for the rest of the season and we'll be happy.
September 1, 200519 yr Rorod, you've only been here through part of this season, so you don't know the overwhelming anticipation many of us had for Hermida. There were some who wanted to see him win the job out of S.T., so to finally see him in a Marlins uniform is a reason for elation. Even if he struck out on three pitches, I think there'd still be a desire to see more playing time.

September 1, 200519 yr Who is comparing Hermida to Babe Ruth? He's more of a high OBP guy, which is EXACTLY what the Marlins need right NOW.
September 1, 200519 yr Author i agree with all of you guys i want to see him play but you understand baseball is hard enough to play w/o any pressure and right now he has a world of expectations that i dont even think the greatest player ever could reach or come close for that matter

As for the team, Iowa said it best earlier, he just has to be more productive than Mike Lowell, and we're better off. He doesn't have to do much to make the team better. It's Cabrera and Delgado who need to carry the offense, Hermida needs to be more than just an automatic out.
September 1, 200519 yr If it keeps Mike Lowell off the field and Jeff Conine out of playing the outfield (his defense out there=:plain), I'm all for playing Hermida everyday.
September 1, 200519 yr Listen to Rob Neyer everybody... jon (dc): Rob: Do you see any of the minor league 9/1 call ups assuming large roles for any of the contenders? I remember Dewey Evans starting every day in September when Boston and Detroit were fighting for the AL EAst in 1972 or 1973. Rob Neyer: Yeah. Florida's Jeremy Hermida, who actually was called up slightly before 9/1, should be playing a whole lot, and he's certainly good enough to help. The A's have some pitchers who could be useful.
September 1, 200519 yr "At this rate," Marlins closer Todd Jones said, "he only needs another 800 at-bats to be the greatest hitter of all time."
September 1, 200519 yr This picture makes me laugh, it looks like Treanor is getting ready to pull a "Waynes World" IM NOT WORTHY and it looks like Gonzo is touching his head and concentrating real hard, like hes trying to pull Hermida's batting secrets out. Just made me chuckle.

Not the case with Hermida, and with Dillon either. Dillon will be a valueable bench player next season and with September callups due to his positional versatility.
September 1, 200519 yr I say he should retire after his one at bat and go straight to the Hall of Fame in 2010.
September 1, 200519 yr I say he should retire after his one at bat and go straight to the Hall of Fame in 2010. 925509 I'd say the bat he used during that at bat is probably already on the way there, because what he did last night was something that hasn't happened in 107 years, and only twice in history.(wasn't a baseball from The AJ's no-hitter sent to the Hall?)
September 1, 200519 yr There will be no questioning The Messiah. In due time he will cure cancer. But before, he will smash baseball. He smashes baseball very, very much. The Messiah has spoken.
September 1, 200519 yr Was Mikey actually smiling in that picture from last night? 925514 No kidding, it's a freakin' miracle.

September 1, 200519 yr Yup, there is a baseball in the Hall Of Fame from AJ, Leiter, and Brown for their no-no's. There is also stuff from the '03 World Series there too. If anyone ever plans to go, pick the HOF Induction in July. Yeah, it's busy as hell, but there are players all over town. Last time I went in '03, Harmon Killebrew actually talked with me for about 10 minutes about how good he thought the Marlins chances were that year (I had my jersey on). I also collided with Ozzie Smith in a souvenir shop doorway (For those who have been there, you know how narrow the doorways are) and a few years before that, Gaylord Perry and Enos Slaughter sat behind me in a restaurant. On a side note, I checked Rotoworld: Apparently, Mikey didn't hurt himself and land on the DL for attempting to smile last night
