im just sick and tired of all these black people saying bush hates them. its f***ing ridiculous. I for one liked kayne before he came out and said this and was going to buy his new album but after this comment I have started the boycott kayne west club!

I have no problem at all with what Kanye West said. My problem is that it has become accepted for people to say "Bush hates blacks" or "Republicans hate blacks" even though it's untrue when said as a broad statement like that. Stuff like that is horribly ignorant and is part of the whole 'blame others for your suffering' way of thinking that people like Al Sharpton have promoted.

I'm with those who say you can't boycott something you can't spell.

 

That being said, I'm glad Kanye had the balls to say something he believed in. Whether it was the time or place is neither here nor there. I mean, there's nothing you can do but hate on him in retrospect, but I'd be MORE interested to hear why he feels this way. Rather than just some empty statement at the end of some scripted nonsense they were reading.

 

He comes off as stuttering and somewhat, I don't know, nervous. But, hey, who wouldn't be. And Mike Myers just looks like, "Oh, crap, this guy's going off script" about to crap his pants. Teleprompters, you gotta' love them.

Kanye is an incredible music producer, lyricist and rapper; he's changing the genre of hip hop music as we speak. Even with his comment, I am still a huge fan of his, because of his talent and the music he makes. (His new album, btw, is crazy good. Go pick up Late Registration...)

 

Anyways, if you were to boycott every actor or musician who didn't like George Bush, you wouldn't be able to watch 95% of tv shows, movies or songs. Hollywood is really left. Hell, half the country is. This is America, he can have his opinion. Even if I disagree with him, I will always defend his and anyone else's freedom to say what they think... and I will keep buying his albums.

I agree that Kanye, as an American citizen, has a right to say things like this. But the thing is that it was said at the wrong place and the wrong time. But that's just me.

I believe it was Fritz who posted once that black leaders like al sharpton use the rhetoric of 'reps hate blacks' or blacks are poor b/c of whites etc. in order to keep down the blacks and to retain power over that large group of people. Same thing the cuban polticians do in miami to keep power over the cubans

My impression is that he was just really upset and emotional when he said it. I dont know this guy too well as an artist but I get the impression that he is bright and actually cares. I think the pictures of thousands of poor black people in horrible conditions with no food or water was pretty personal. He sounded like he had some fury in his tone.

 

Republicans dont hate blacks but its not baseless to see why blacks dont generally vote Republican. Ill say that the Republican-black people relationship is weak just as much to do with Republicans as to do with some "hold em down" conspiracy. There is a reason the RNC head just apologized for southern strategy used by Nixon to take advantage of racial tensions. Furthermore, ads like Willie Horton in 88 certainly dont help. And, even if they think social welfare is the source of the problem, Id say fighting the war on poverty is not on top of the Republic party agenda(or at least in the case of some conservatives like Grover Norquist). I dont think Republicans hate blacks but I also dont think the core values that make up the current party, its base, and its leadership mesh with the interest of a large(not all) group of black America. Thats a big reason why they are trying to tap into the strong religious views of blacks-so they can find something that would bring black America into the tent.

 

Id say the situation is very parellel to the situation between the Republican party and labor workers/union workers a while back. Workers voted democrat for a reason. Republicans drew a lot of these workers to vote for them not by appealing to their worker side but to their social political side.

A minor point of clarification, but I think an important one contextually.

 

Kanye never said Bush hates black people. He said Bush "doesn't care" about them. There's a big difference there, between an active and concious hate of black people vs. a general passivity and indifference towards their condition. I don't really think either one is true, but it's at least possible that Bush doesn't care all that much what the hell kind of poverty these people live in. It's so far removed from his own upbringing that I think it's safe to say, at least, that Pres. Bush doesn't entirely get it. But I still think he cares.

 

Also, anyone who put their money back in their wallet because of what Kanye said, well, they probably do have some serious issues with black people.

Heres the problem. (by the way my cuban in miami comment was about how the cuban politicans keep talking about how theyre going to fight to put more pressure on castro when everyone knows that castro being there is good for them b/c it gives them a cause that can win them votes)

 

Anyway. Who does relate to blacks or latinos? Clinton? Why b/c he played the sax? The problem is that our current political spectrum is made up of a bunch of old rich white guys. And the so called minorty leaders are like leeches that feed off of the poverty and lack of education common among many member sof minority groups. The leaders want 'their people' to stay down in the dumps so they can maintain their power over them by scapegoating the evil white man or some other alien force. I've experienced this first hand among the Cuban leaders as I said above. Many people think that democrats want to 'win the war on poverty' which im sure most democrats that arent politicans do want. However, the same way the repubs get their power through corporations and doctors, the dems get it through union leaders, environmental groups, and minority leaders reminiscient of the party bosses of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Nothing has changed. Neither side will bite the hand that feeds them and as such no one is doing what is really necessary to improve conditions for poor people or minorities. Heres a hypo...lets say that the govt of mississippi wants to institute a major change in health care. The politicians who have support of the doctors or insurance companies will vote against it. Next time another slightly different change is proposed this time the politicians who have support of unions and african american groups vote against it. Its not about improvement its about maintaining votes.Neither side will concede a battle they know will be for the best if it means losign votes.

I'm obviously nowhere near a Bush-supporter, but I don't think that GWB hates blacks. Hopefully nobody's stupid enough to believe that.

George Bush does not hate black people. However, some black people from New Orleans are relocating to Utah, and that may cause a problem. Most Mormons in Utah probably don't know what a black person is.

I will also interject that I don't believe Dubya hates any minority but is rather indifferent to the situation that afro americans live in, especially in the deep south. While Kanye's comments were offkey (btw, I hate rap so I don't support him in any way at all), I believe it was more the frustration of the government's lethargic movement towards getting help to the people in Nawlins', Mississippi, and Alabama. Should people rely on the feds at all in these situations, or should states focus on having these sort of services in a more autonomus way? Not only that, but anytime criticism is levied against this administration, the righties like to pull a response from the laundry list of:

- Why do you hate America?

- Don't you know it's treasonous to criticize the President during a time of war?

- Why are you against the troops? Support the troops!

- Why do you engage in this "blame America first/victim" mentality?

- There's plenty of time to point the blame later, right now we need to focus our efforts on rescuing the people that need help and were abandoned by their local Democratic officials.
