Posted September 15, 200519 yr I wish Jack would find another option besides Villone when we are behind, but still in the game. Messenger and Villone have the highest WHIPs in the entire bullpen. Sending them into the game is equivalent to waving the white flag. Villone is sporting a 7.50+ ERA since joining the Marlins. Messenger is about a sure of a bet as there is to allow inherited runners to score. How about trying out Resop or Johnson? They sure couldn't be worse.
September 15, 200519 yr Mota hasn't pitched since Sept 9 AA since Sept 10 and only has 3 innings this month That's all I have to say
September 15, 200519 yr Know why you cant go with Mecir, Jones, Alf or perhaps even Mota. Not sure about Resop or Johnson but if the logic of many on here is real, then why throw an inexperienced pair on the mound. Mecir can not throw back to back games, Jones has been worked, Alf has been pitching but living dangerously and Mota...well suppose he is saving for a better situation like tomorrow if Vargas does not last long. We may loose the battle but win the war.
September 15, 200519 yr Author Mota hasn't pitched since Sept 9 AA since Sept 10 and only has 3 innings this month That's all I have to say 946424 You're absolutely right. Mota would be a much better option when the game is still in hand. I believe Alfonseca is injured.

September 15, 200519 yr Why you wouldn't put your best pitchers in during a close game is beyond me. Why let the lead increase so much that a comeback becomes all but impossible? As soon as Jack brought in Villone I was screaming at the television. It's demoralizing. Hold the game close as long as you can, don't put your worst pitcher in. I'm just dumbfounded.
September 15, 200519 yr McKeon likes putting the kids in situations where they can't possibly succeed, but he's been using Messenger a lot lately. Either way, most of us (at least in the game thread) felt as if the numbers said we were in it, but they way we were playing said game over, so McKeon wanted to try something else...either way, I'd have liked to see Mota, he's the closest to a "strike-out" guy in our pen, and we needed a K in that Messenger spot.
September 15, 200519 yr Author That was one ugly outing for Resop. 3 walks, 3 hits, 4 ERs in just .1 innings. Just goes to show you that not all guys are ready to come up from AA.
September 15, 200519 yr all I know is our bullpen situation is not pretty (outside of Jones) Who is our setup guy? exactly, there isn't one. That tells you where we stand So it is either starters going 8+ in close games, or an offensive explotion. Going to the bullpen early at this point, is like flipping a coin
September 15, 200519 yr why is villone still in this team he sux, and messenger has been getting rocked the last couple outings, damn i hate that he shouldve brought in either AA, Mota, Or mecir they havent pitch for a while if not damn i would rather have Valdez in that inning, he has had enough time to rest plus he didnt last much on sunday. Villone= perisho, de los santos Messenger= bump (cant get hold) :thumbdown i think Easly needs a day off i dont think he has gotten a hit in the series start Mordy!!!!!!

Did we give the game away, NO but play the percentages that Villone or Mess could hold for one inning. Either way, this is not about one game but 16 more games. The pen was used a lot during the Philly series and who knows (lol) about the status of Alf or Mota. Do know would not waste Mercir tonight. Again, we might have lost this game but the object is to win the war.
September 15, 200519 yr I'd rather put guys like Mecir, Alf, and Jones in when we're WINNING. You can't have them pitch when we're behind but close (pretty much every game) and the games we're winning.

I heard the TV guys state that Villone was the only LHP in the pen...if so what happened to Quantrill did the team release him or did the TV guys just make another mistake with that one??

It's funny how last week someone started a thread on how good Ron Villone was. Someone even called him a "quality middle reliever." LOL. It was a dumb comment a week ago and it is even dumber now.

I'm not sure what happened to him, but he has been absolutely terrible here.....to the point where I'd just like to see him released, but unfortunately we are on the hook for another season with him. Ugh.
September 15, 200519 yr Mota hasn't pitched since Sept 9 AA since Sept 10 and only has 3 innings this month That's all I have to say 946424 Thank you. You can have too much pitching. Its when your good arms are rarely given a chance to pitch, thus becoming more shaky and wild when they do get into a game.

September 15, 200519 yr Can someone explain to me what the hell was Jack (off) McKeon thinking when he brought in Messenger? I partially understand Villone, but Messenger? How many times does this guy have to screw a game up before Jack (off) realizes that the guy isn't ready to be out there in the middle of a playoff hunt? At this point, you have to live and die with your veterans unless a rookie PROVES that he can be out there. :banghead
