In all fairness to the Angels organization, their attendance wasn't very good even in the year they won the World Series. Arte has invested a significant amount of money on this team, both in players signed (such as Vlad) and in their marketing (both locally and regionally... shoot, even internationally, since Arte is Mexican). A lot of people made fun of their name change to the Los Angeles Angles of Anaheim, but that did two things. First, it made the Angels compete with the Dodgers for regional supremacy, even if only in name. Second, it had a bunch of us talking about the Angels for quite a while... can anyone say free publicity? You combine those two things with a great product on the field and... bam, over 4 million in attendance. You have to invest a significant amount to reap financial success. Penny pinching isn't going to do it. Arte's got the money and he's using it wisely. Arte is a business genius. :thumbup

He turned a team that no one cared about a few years ago into one of baseballs top teams. (Although you cannot forget the 2002 Championship helped some.)

Actually Disney turned it around. They sold to Arte sometime during 2003/04

Since the late 1970?s and then with the Reggie years, the Angels have always drawn well, setting all the AL Records before the Blue Jays did. Just a general observation, not a shot at anyone, but it?s amazing how some posters on MB.com will try to justify the Marlins attendance by throwing out numbers about other teams without doing a little bit of research that can be found in any basic baseball annual (Sporting News Baseball Guide, for example) that?s been around for years. A couple of weeks ago, I saw someone mention that it wasn?t until the late 1990?s that the Yankees had ever drawn 2 million. What? I have no idea where that one came from. Point being, if one has the time to find the OPS of the back-up shortstop from the 1994 Milwaukee Brewers, then?you get the picture. October 13, 200520 yr It isn't helping his back that he's carrying his team on it. And, well, he's been under contract two years. Both years he's been an MVP candidate (winning it once) and he has been unquestionably the best player on his team. Without Vlad, the Angels are nothing either of the two years. I think it was a good deal.
