2006 Lineup is shaping up...

Has anyone heard about Mike Jacobs defensively? If he was previously a catcher, are we looking at someone who is still learning to play the position?

he learned it about a year ago after shoulder issues from what I gather

at least we have Perry Hill to show him the ropes..

According to the article he still catches 3-4 times a week, and still thinks of himself primarily as a catcher.

If LoDuca is moved, Penn's idea is great. Platoon Jacobs at catcher with whomever (Treanor, Willy a little) to see if he can handle the load, then voila we've got our catcher for the near future. :thumbup

Then Niner can play 1B, his best position, and you stick Willingham in the outfield.

Im not to concered about the batting linup change, B/c last season we had all the big name hitters, and look what happened, we went throught that hitting slump again, maybe next year will be the next 2003, its the pitching roster that concerns me.

If we weren't going to cease to be in Florida, I would be excited about this team's future. I just hope that future doesn't include guys like Aguila starting of the OF or worse, Treanor at C.

I agree. Need to get 1-2 ML-proven arms I think, even if not great. Heilman or Seo would be swell.

C - TBD

1B - Mike Jacobs

2B - TBD

3B - Miguel Cabrera

SS - Hanley Ramirez

LF - Josh Willingham

CF - TBD

RF - Jeremy Hermida

That's what I've got right now.

I would imagine Ramirez hits 8th, Jacobs hits 4th, Cabrera hits 3rd, Hermida 5th, Willingham 2nd or 6th, depending on what else we get.

It's looking like an exciting lineup to me

Except Conine is not there.. I really think he'll be back for one more year. I think he NEEDS to be back for 2 reasons... 1 - To provide a bunch of these young guys some veteran leadership... 2 - With all the player moves, I think it's important to at least give the fans a chance to watch Mr. Marlin end his career here....

Beinfest - Sign Niner !!!!!

I would agree, but I don't really want him taking ABs from Jacobs or Willingham. Seems kind of counterproductive to me.

And he's a Type A Free Agent. Although I guess he would probably accept arby.

If he's willing to come back and play 1B vs. lefties, it'd be great to have his leadership.

But we can't give him a starting job, it just doesn't make sense. We have a LF and a 1B already.

Everyone is assuming that Willy is our starting LF, but I wouldn't give him the job just yet... To be honest, I don't know why everyone here is so in love with the guy. He's shown some promise, but I'm not ready to etch his name in stone in LF. I would love to give Niner one last full season down here...

I don't know.. maybe I'm biased... I've always been a huge Niner fan...

And Admin.. I hadn't even thought of the #19 being available again... I think I'd shed a tear or two seeing Niner come back with his original number.

is petit ready for mlb???

His AAA numbers say no, but we'll see in spring training.

At the moment...

CF - Pierre

SS - Ramirez

3B - Cabrera

RF - Hermida

1B - Jacobs

C - Lo Duca

LF - Willingham/Aguila/Conine?

2B - Andino/Wilson/Psomas/Free Agent

Rotation: Willis, Vargas, Olsen, Johnson, Petit

Bullpen: Bowyer, Resop, Messenger, Bump, Villone

But we all know Lo Duca, Villone and Pierre will be traded so that will change.

You can pretty much count on this as our core:

1. ?

2. Hanley

3. Cabs

4. Jacobs

5. Hermida

6. Willy

7. ?

8. ?

Yep, I'll agree, though I think Willy should hit second and Hanley further down the lineup, but whatever.

Gotta find someone to lead off.
