I'll just say this Ric Harden the Oakland starter who pitched in the Futures Game. Well Bautista was right there with him in the scouts eyes.

:banghead stop talking good about Bautista I can't take it anymore. I am sad as it is :(

To add some perspective...to land Rondell White, the Royals gave up a 25-year-old AA pitcher with less Ks than IP, and a single-A pitcher who's 5-11 with a 4.38 ERA.

That is a great example. THe Marlins shouldn't have even had to give up what they did to get what they got.

That's a dumb example, unless you can tell me that the Royal's MVP suffered a season-ending injury before the trade was executed.

and the royals didn't lose their all-star third baseman a day before the waiver deadline either.

That isn't a dumb example at all. The bottom line is, you shouldn't have had to give anyone nearly as good as what you gave up to get Conine.

SO you just stand pat and let this current team ride it out on the supposition that a 20 year old prospect might become something one day down the road?

The Royals gave up hardly anything for Rondell White. That is a good price to pay for a player who won't be that much of an impact player on a team who doesn't have a great chance on making the playoffs.

However, the Marlins don't have a great chance at making the playoffs, yet have given up Jesus and the Holy Spirit for players like Ugueth Urbina and Jeff Conine, when if they couldn't get them for less, they weren't worth getting.

ok,m im realy high right now asnd hust saw on espn the trade, i havent read the thread , storry, to sotned, but im thinking, this is the team tnat if it makes the playoffs will save baseball in south forikda, thats why we made the trade, bautistat and levinskit do not help u s NOW, we need to win now or bautista wuuld have been with another org. in a coupbe years anywas, this trade is loking at the big picutre, and it will work out for the best ,k bauti=tsa had tro leave to keep this org. alivek, thats what i htink.............goon d night guys

What did we add Fillet? We didn't add Brian Giles, or Jose Guillen, or even Reggie Sanders. WE ADDED JEFF CONINE. Do you think Jeff Conine is even that much better than Todd Hollandsworth or Brian Banks? Do you think the two or three extra hits Conine might provide over the next 3 weeks is worth giving up the best player on your farm system? Please.

Yes, that's exactly what I do. The Marlins had a number of places to go, and one of them was bound to work. You don't go out and trade a great prospect for someone who only has a .339 OBP when even Brian Banks' is higher.

One thing you don't seem to understand... The Marlins weren't going to get any LF without giving up alot. They had no leverage. They could of called up the Boynton Beach LF and they would of asked for the world too, knowing that a team leading the WC suddenly didn't have a left fielder.

If this trade is made one second before Lowell's injury I would agree, but the market changed drastically after that injury. And I'm sure Beinfest burned up the phone lines trying to get a better deal, and this deal was probably the least expensive of them all.

Let me answer for Mr. Fish Filet.

The answer is yes, unequivocally, totally, if the Fish win the wildcard based on Conine's play, whether it be three hits or seven home runs, YES!!!

How much better do you think Conine will do than Banks? Or Hollandsworth? Or even Abe Nunez? Three extra hits maybe. Maybe one extra home run.

Long time lurker chiming in again...

In case some of you are having trouble reading the writing on the wall with the prospects we've given up in the Urbina and Conine deals, UNLESS WE WIN NOW THIS TEAM WON'T BE IN FLA BY THE TIME THOSE GUYS ARE READY.

Basically what your seeing here is an organization that understands that the future of baseball in South Florida is playing out right now. A playoff run would go along way towards cementing a stadium deal and with it the Marlins future.

In other words, if we just sat on our hands and stockpiled prospects for 2005 its basically like cutting off your nose in spite of your face. This team won't be around, atleast not in FLA, unless it wins NOW.

You are right. Why would I think that a veteran with playoff experience would be better than a Sept. call-up or a retread that was already demoted out of a starting job once this season.

You are right. We didn't add Barry Bonds, or Albert Pujols either. The Marlins made a move they had to make, despite a highly unfavorable market.

Here here :thumbup :thumbup :thumbup

and with that good night.

even those of you who don't like the deal, lets all agree to not disparage our fellow posters and tomorrow let's just keep winning!!!!!!

Rich Harden was very overrated. He has a mediocre 4.26 ERA, and that's even padding it with 4 of his 8 starts being against the D-Rays, Orioles, Tigers, and Indians.

I totally agree with wanting to win now and not waiting to see if prospects pan out, but I just dont see Conine being the type of player to put us over the edge. I truly believe that, unless Conine goes on some huge tear, that if we make the playoffs now, we would have made it with what we had in left before the trade.

If Conine hits over .300 over these last 4 weeks with at least 4 homers and the Fish make the playoffs, then I might think the deal was worth it. Other than that, the trade will be a complete disaster.

wow. That's a pretty big price to pay. You guys better hope Connine hits .330 and gets you into the playoffs...

That's why this deal was made. It's all a gamble. The Fish came WAY too far to let an injury ruin their playoff chances. Pretty soon teams will start pitching around Pudge and putting all the pressure on Enc, DLee, n Cabrera. Right now those guys aren't exactly the best hitters.
