September 1, 200321 yr Boo Yeah! Jeff Conine: .290 15 HR 80 RBI Matt Stairs: .298 16 HR 46 RBI Not really much difference, but when you dig deeper, Conine is hitting .294 against lefties and .289 against righties, whereas Stairs is hitting .208 against lefties. I'd rather have the guy we can play everyday, plus we don't have to watch Stairs play left field, which is a big plus. That would be like Millar back in LF :angry. I loved Millar's offense but his D was awful.
September 1, 200321 yr I'd rather get a better player than get Glavine back, even though I'd be thrilled to get Glavine. The thing is, Stairs has a better bat than Lowell to begin with. What Stairs over Lowell? Pass that purple hash over here! :cool
September 1, 200321 yr Whoa, whoa, whoa, does that really say Stairs has a better bat than LOWELL up there? (rubs eyes) WHAT!? Edit: Slow reaction time...that's twice tonight already I've been beaten
September 1, 200321 yr Im excited as hell to get Conine back, I just hope throwing him back into left will be as easy as people seem to think. He has only started 5 games in left field this year and has only had 8 putouts.
September 1, 200321 yr Just as I was ready to turn off my computer this comes via e-mail Marlins acquire Conine from Orioles Veteran back in Florida teal for prospects By Joe Frisaro / MLB.com Get tickets MIAMI -- The Marlins are revisiting their past as they attempt to make a push toward the postseason. Swinging a late-hour deal Sunday night with the Orioles, the Marlins have acquired veteran Jeff Conine for minor league prospects. Conine, known as Mr. Marlin when he wore Florida teal from 1993-97, is batting .290 with 15 home runs and 80 RBIs this season for Baltimore. Obtaining the 37-year-old Conine became a priority after Marlins All-Star third baseman Mike Lowell suffered a broken bone on his left hand after being struck by a pitch from Montreal's Hector Almonte on Saturday. The versatile 37-year-old veteran can play left field and first base. He is expected to fill in left field while rookie Miguel Cabrera moves to third for Lowell, who will likely miss the entire month of September. The Marlins are tied with the Phillies for the Wild Card lead. Conine was a key member of the Marlins' 1997 World Series title team, and he has a home in South Florida. I trying to find out right now who the minor leaguer is.....

September 1, 200321 yr the orioles received pitchers Bautista and levinski for conine your lying right?......
September 1, 200321 yr Oh my God, I really think the Marlins have to be the dumbest organization in baseball to be giving up 1 of the best pitching prosects in baseball along with a very decent one for an old second-rate ballplayer who will play for them for how long??
September 1, 200321 yr Beinfest on Drugs? Purple Hash, Crack, PCP what is it. We need a poll on this one!
September 1, 200321 yr I'm confirming the report: Go to rotoworld.com, it says it there. Holy crap. I am in total shock. I can't believe how stupid Florida is.
September 1, 200321 yr would I lie? yes its Bautista and Levinski. hey, do you want to try and win this year or not? what did you expect the orioles to take, Neal and Nunez? Not to sound offending, but who was your source for Levinski and Bautista going to Baltimore?
September 1, 200321 yr do you want to try and win this year or not? what did you expect the orioles to take, Neal and Nunez? They took our best pitching prospect. For Jeff Conine. Not a good move. And we even threw in Levinski? Geez...

Probaly 1 or 2 years. Wow bad trade. Admin had such a great year as the GM then he blows it by giving up 2 of our top prospects for an old guy. I was thinking Like Blaine Neal and someone. Boy was I wrong :banghead
September 1, 200321 yr let's look at it this way. we are trying to win this year so coninie's adition is great. also, we are dealing from an area where we are strong. yes, we gave up 2 top pitching prospects, but our organization is strong in that area and can afford to do so.
September 1, 200321 yr They took our best pitching prospect. For Jeff Conine. Not a good move. And we even threw in Levinski? Geez... The Media is going to be laughing at us :lol . Wow I can't believe he gave up not one of our top prospects but 2. I am in shock :plain
September 1, 200321 yr With Lowell Out, Marlins Land Veteran Conine From Orioles Baltimore Obtains Pair of Minor Leaguers .c The Associated Press MIAMI (Aug. 31) -- Jeff Conine was traded to the Florida Marlins from the Baltimore Orioles late Sunday night, just ahead of the midnight ET deadline for setting postseason rosters. The Orioles sent Conine to the Marlins for 20-year-old right-handers Denny Bautista and Don Levinski. Conine, who can play the infield or outfield, was acquired to help offset the loss of All-Star third baseman Mike Lowell. Lowell, the Marlins' leader with 32 homers and 105 RBI, was lost for at least the regular season after breaking his right hand Saturday night. Conine, who played for the Marlins' 1997 World Series championship team, batted .290 with 15 home runs and 80 RBI this season with the Orioles. Florida is tied with Philadelphia atop the NL wild-card standings. Players had to be on a team's roster by Aug. 31 in order to be eligible for the postseason. The Orioles were on the way home from Seattle following a 10-game road trip when the deal was completed. 09/01/03 00:45 EDT Copyright 2003 The Associated Press.

Our organization is not that strong as it used to. I hate when people say this. We don't have that great of a Farm system anymore and this deal doesn't help.
