Brave New World

Featured Replies

Brave New World I rated as average. I read a lot more far interesting books in high school.

I mean what is this? Come seeking help becuase you are too damn lazy to read a damn book. And I seriously doubt your teacher makes you read 40 books a week, 40 books a month, 40 books a semester, 40 books a school year. I know, I know, I'm just exagerrating. So what.

Stop being lazy and then when you go looking up the Cliffs Notes version and dont trust it, why come in here and asking people to give you a synopsis of the book?

Are you just that lazy?

Oh and Buckeye, I read some 500 pages a week for my history classes. So take that son!

Best High School novel/play/work I ever read: Julius Ceaser. Easily.

Agreed dude. I got to be Brutus.

That was a good one.

I'm partial to Invisible Man and Catch-22 myself.

I read Deliverance and thought it was pretty good.

I'm trying to think of a favorite, though... I'm coming up blank. There's something, I just can't think of it. We did Ceasar and Hamlet, but I'm not really into Shakespeare (even though I've got about a play and two monologues memorized, from working as an actor in another life).

Favorite book I ever read for class was 1984 or Animal Farm.

Those are two of my favorites also.

I'm also partial to Of Mice and Men.

Since everyone is shouting out books, read 'Killing Mr. Watson' if you are interested in knowing more about the history of South Florida it is very well written, based on folktale, but it could be a tedious read.

That book was also assigned by my prof. I actually already read that one before it was even due.. We needed to read brave new world first... 1984 isnt coming for another month or 2. So its not that Im lazy because if I have to read I'll read... I thought 1984 was waaaaayy more iteresting than Brave New World.

Oops... typo, I think you got my point

i had a utopia/negative utopia section in HS and although I generally like the genre, I can't stand huxley and found this book to be very dull - i cringed when I heard they were actually making a movie of it

that said, it doesn't take that long to read

you have pretty much two options - if you care about the grade then suck it up and deal with doing some things you don't like

if you don't care about your grade, slough it off

There's sex in Brave New World. You can fap to the sexuality.

I read that crap this summer.

I take it u didnt like it?

Nope, but I dislike reading books in general.

Dood, WTF are bookz?

It is only a 200 page book here and it is easy to read. It is made for a 8th grade reading level. I read it then in middle school.

How can you have problems with that book? Not to blast you and all dude but it is a pretty good book and gives a great perspective on america's fear at the time of socialism.

Except that it was written about technological America by a British writer.

Its not that I had trouble, its just boring as hell dude... I ended up finishing the book... I mean it wasnt HORRIBLE but nothing out of this world...

Yeah, that book sucked.

Bottom line...read the book. I don't mean it as an attack on you, but you are depriving yourself of an amazing read if you pass it up.

Fish4Life is a tool for not reading the book and then whining about why everyone was hating. Reading is definitely for nerds, let me tell you.

In other news, I can't believe no one mentioned Catcher in the Rye along with all those classics. Holden Caufield fo lyfe!

No offense, but everytime I read the first post in this thread, I start laughing out loud.

Get over it

Great book.

A lot of schools don't have that one on their reading lists anymore. That whole "all the people who have tried to kill the president have read these books" campaign seems to have worked to some degree. I remember my teacher telling me to go out and buy it because it was taken off the reading lists, and so I just listened to his advice. A good story.
