Thanks for posting that, it slipped my mind and really puts things in perspective. :thumbup That is amazing when you think about it, really.

Thanks for posting that, it slipped my mind and really puts things in perspective. :thumbup That is amazing when you think about it, really. it's amazing in the sense that it's not even close to being true. they've still got 12 players from their 2004 championship team--primarily good ones.
February 12, 200620 yr :hat i don['t follow the redsox enough to care who they trade or who they keep.maybe samson was referring to their starters. but the redsox have their own ballpark and more money to spend on players than we do. samson is having a rough enough time with his job these days without us cutting on him. i know i couldn't do it any better.could you?
February 12, 200620 yr :hat i don['t follow the redsox enough to care who they trade or who they keep.maybe samson was referring to manny ramirez david ortiz curt schilling jason varitek trot nixon bronson arroyo tim wakefield keith foulke mike timlin those aren't exactly bench players. it's actually quite impressive how much of their roster they've been able to keep.

February 12, 200620 yr Samson doesn't care about baseball. He doesn't care about the players. He doesn't care about the fans. He only wants to keep daddy's bank accounts flush for when inheritance rolls around. Once you come to realize this, you won't be surprised or angered at anything he says or does.

Or perhaps mommy's bank accounts instead...
February 12, 200620 yr All I'm going to say is "the customer is always right." Then again, as far as support for season tickets, or incentives to buy, this team is among the worst in the majors so no form of fan alienation will surprise me.
February 12, 200620 yr I believe he was speaking of the Red Sox starting lineup. well then maybe it wouldve been a bit more prudent to say "the red sox starting lineup" instead of "players", eh?
February 12, 200620 yr This doesn't bother me as much as other things he's said. He's done much, much worse. But it is true that he treats people like idiots. He really does need to be slapped. Or given a stern talking to.
February 12, 200620 yr I believe he was speaking of the Red Sox starting lineup. well then maybe it wouldve been a bit more prudent to say "the red sox starting lineup" instead of "players", eh? I can't remember verbatim how Samson phrased the comment, but I don't think Bristud was attempting to quote him with any specificity either. The point was, and it was well taken, that player movement on every team is the norm.
February 12, 200620 yr Author Posted on Sun, Feb. 12, 2006 MARLINS Fire sale fallout affects FanFest Compared to last year's Marlins FanFest, about half as many individual-game tickets were sold during this year's event after an offseason in which the team was dismantled. BY BARRY JACKSON bjackson@MiamiHerald.com The Marlins felt the predictable impact of their offseason dismantling Saturday, selling far fewer tickets than they did a year ago at their annual FanFest. On the first day individual-game tickets were put on sale, the Marlins say they sold more than 13,000 tickets -- compared with 25,000 at last year's FanFest. ''While the number of tickets sold met our expectations, we would have liked more,'' Marlins president David Samson said. The Marlins -- who are expecting season-ticket sales to drop from 10,000 to about 5,000 -- did not estimate the crowd at FanFest, but it likely didn't compare with last year's 30,000. When tickets went on sale at 10 a.m., there were about 70 people in line -- about half the number lined up at the same time last year. The Marlins could take solace that fans generally were cordial and supportive during town-hall meetings with teams officials and players. During a season-ticket holders meeting in December, a few fans were combative with Samson. On Saturday, Samson and other Marlins officials were showered with applause, and only one person in the three English-language town-hall meetings expressed anger, saying fans expected a major-league product. ''I don't apologize one bit for this product,'' Samson said. ``The run you've had as a season-ticket holder is unparalleled. There are fans all over the country that would trade places [with you].'' Samson, afterward, said, ``The last town-hall meeting, the three people who were combative did it to get attention and they did get attention in this Jerry Springer world. When I'm walking down the street or in meetings, I don't run into people like that. Those are really cartoon characters.'' Miami police officer Michael Stein and Sunny Isles businessman Tom Ward were the first two to arrive for tickets, separately, shortly before 7 a.m. Both left disappointed. Stein wanted club seats for the April 11 home opener vs. San Diego but said he was told they were not available. Ward bought $500 in tickets but didn't get what he wanted -- tickets to opening day and the June 30-July 2 Red Sox series. Though seats were available, Ward said they were far from ideal. Tidbits from the town-hall meetings: ? Samson said the Marlins in the next month will meet with Florida Atlantic University officials about building a joint baseball/football stadium in Boca Raton but suggested it's unlikely to happen. ? Samson is in the early stages of plotting a ''public relations campaign'' that will allow fans to have their voices heard on the stadium issue. ``I'm taking ideas, and we're working through it with our legal advisors [and] our stadium financial advisors to figure out a way to actually get people to help. It could involve . . . investing in the stadium [or] team or a letter-writing campaign in Tallahassee. I don't know.'' ? There have been no recent discussions to build a ballpark next to Dolphins Stadium. ''We were unable to make a deal with Wayne Huizenga,'' Samson said. ? General manager Admin Beinfest said the team ''talked about'' adding either Sammy Sosa or Juan Gonzalez but decided against it: ``We have some young players we need to find out about.'' http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/13852299.htm LOL CARTOON CHARACTERS!?!?!? :lol :lol :lol

And I don't see how this thread is being pessimistic, it's basically the same as the other fanfest thread, except this thread is focused on Samson's hilarious comment.
