March 11, 200620 yr The real question is, assuming for a moment Stokes continues to produce dramatically in spring training and puts up some eye-catching numbers, what team needs a major league ready first baseman and what do they have to offer (that would help the Marlins) in exchange? There's always two sides to a trade, two sets of needs and players that are expendable. What Beinfest has been good at is matching up with other teams.
March 11, 200620 yr I don't know if we want to trust Stokes with his history of injury. Although Jacobs isn't the best shape either, shoulders and wrists for a first baseman slugger are compltely different.. It might come to that, Stokes in LF. It probably wouldn't be that hard to learn, just take a different type of condidtioning. Except it has been.

There's always two sides to a trade, two sets of needs and players that are extendable. What Beinfest has been good at is matching up with other teams. Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Houston, maybe LAD, are the franchises with no apparent long term options at 1B. If Stokes has any sort of value in their eyes, I have no probelm trading him. But I still think the best thing would be to hold onto him in the minors, give him playing time to recover from his wrist and other injuries, and hopefully have a player that challenges Jacobs. Unless they get a sure fire 2B or CF for him, not worth it.
March 11, 200620 yr I'd love to pry Andy LaRoche from LAs greedy little hands. It'd take more than Stokes, but oh well.
March 11, 200620 yr I'd love to pry Andy LaRoche from LAs greedy little hands. It'd take more than Stokes, but oh well. :lol ... just a bit more aaaanyway... cant wait till 30,000 fans(on Opening Day) are chanting Reh-Gee Reh-Gee after his 2nd homerun in as many at bats
March 11, 200620 yr on the radio broadcast, Van Horn mentioned he was talking with the Marlins pitching coach about Abercrombie & said, "that kid's got some tools, eh?" said Presley looked him in the eye & said "he's got more tools than anyone in South Florida right now." Course that's not saying all that much on this team, considering that Miggy can't run... but still. according to these Mets announcers, Reggie is the CF right now(apparently the Marlins say this spot isnt open anymore) :o seriously?

Izturis and Furcal should have the middle infield locked up for a while over in LA.
March 11, 200620 yr according to these Mets announcers, Reggie is the CF right now(apparently the Marlins say this spot isnt open anymore) :o seriously? for reals. then again, these are Mets announcers so what do they know :whistle I'd love to pry Andy LaRoche from LAs greedy little hands. March 11, 200620 yr LaRoche is a 2B, or it's where he started out in the minors if I recall. They have Perez doing a nice job at 3B anyway.

March 12, 200620 yr ok stokes cant stay healthy for an entire season. so until he proves he can stay healthy, you cant count on him. stokes also cannot play left field unless you want a huge hole there. jacobs is not coverting back to catcher and he hits much better at first base. the best option is to try jacobs in left and have stokes stay at first. and for center field abercrombie has been having a good spring so why try and replace him give him a shot
March 12, 200620 yr i'm all about giving reggie a shot to start in center field. the man has been a beast thus far. i don't see how you could conceivably give aguila or reed center field given how much better reggie has performed. go reggie!
March 12, 200620 yr the best option is to try jacobs in left and have stokes stay at first didnt The Jake have some elbow issues?
March 12, 200620 yr You can't stick Jacobs into LF with his shoulder injury. That's why the only option to have Stokes and Jacobs in the lineup at one time would be to have Stokes in LF.
March 12, 200620 yr the problem is stokes is a defensive liability in left which he tried in the minors. i was just suggesting jacobs because i dont know how serious his shoulder is.
March 12, 200620 yr Looks like Stokes strikes out a whole lot. I would stick with Jacobs, if anything push Stokes to do well in ST and trade him.
