I guess if you think there are rabid fans in Hialeah you weren't paying attention in 1997, when Livan Hernandez started his MLB career with I believe 8 straight wins. Anyway, he was going for 8 or 9 in a row, and the Marlins were in the midst of a playoff race late in the season. I was at the game. I would guess that Marlins 2003 was there as well. He knows. It was a beautiful night with no threat of rain. There were maybe 10000 other fans there...maybe. The rabid Hialeah latino fans were conspicuous in their absence. That was the first night I thought that South Florida was truly a place with a miserable fan base. Perhaps that was the night that sealed the deal with Huizenga. If MLB survives down here, it will take another 10-20 years for a decent fan base to emerge. A generation.

Its because the few fans that the Marlins have just gotten sick and tired of being snakebit from carpetbagging owners. But also on the other hand I truly feel that they can gain a huge fan base if they build the new stadium with the fans comfort in mind.
March 23, 200620 yr Look, the fact is, you can't attract the average fan if you build up a base of fan-favorite type players, and then get rid of all of them a few years later. Only one other baseball franchise in the history of MLB has ever done this besides the Marlins, and we've done it TWICE. The average fan was beginning to trust the Marlins in 2004 and 2005, as the rising attendance numbers had shown. It took about that long for them to get over the '97-98 firesale. That's about 6-7 years or so. Now that we've done it again, who knows how long it will take to bring those numbers up again? There's absolutely no reason for the typical fan to trust this ownership. At the very least you would need to change owners to give the fans any hope that things will change. Even that may not be enough.

March 23, 200620 yr this series of trades is completely different than what happened in 98...those trades were sell offs...beinfest and hill actually did their homework on this one...and we replaced aging players who didnt mesh well together with young, potential future stars...the reason it looks bad is because all these guys are young expensive and everyone knows that baseball teams with high payrolls are the only way to go...but just consider this...say we traded for a han ram, and jacobs, and petit and so on with all 3-7 years experience...everyone would say we made out like bandits...so lets judge these trades so harshly without giving these kids a year to go...and back to the stadium issue...if the market correction wasnt in the interest of loria only making money but giving him the needed funds to get a stadium deal done, isnt it worth it? well to me it is...but what do i know, ive only loved baseball since i started breathing...or at least soon after

It is silly to move a team from the Gateway city to Latin america when you are reaching out to Latin America in the WBC primarily. March 23, 200620 yr yeah fishfan79...because its looking like lowell is going to have a super productive career up here in massachusetts...and personally...even though comparing everyday players to pitchers is like comparing apples and oranges...id be willing to bet my savings account that hanley has a better overall career than beckett...and then there is mota...did anyone really like him at all? he had great stuff no doubt...but on the overall wasnt very good...plus we got 2 of the top red sox prospects for a 3rd baseman who lost a step or 2, a pitcher who was hurt every year and a relief pitcher who lost his job to TJ last year and has never shown he can close in the big leagues...so now YOU tell me...who has been drinking the kool aid now...ps...i guarentee you that epstein wouldnt have made that trade if he was there at the time...

Do you ask every one to stand up from Hialeah in the stands? I'm just curious? It gets a little old about who the true fans are. Lets put aside our geographical diiferences no matter what city you live in and just support this team. Period.

March 24, 200620 yr Hey I am all for a stadium down here anywhere, put it on an island off the coast if it means the marlins stay. and I trust marlinsfanman77 as I consider him a friend I am just am confused normally the sun or herald jump on the chances and all to say stuff good or bad you know? I hope it ends up in hialiah that would be kewl as long as we keep the florida marlins
