March 28, 200620 yr So it comes down to the last day.....the last roster spot for a pitcher is still open...will it be Messenger, Ligtenberg or Resop...are we going to go with 3 veterans in the bullpen or 2?
March 28, 200620 yr Willis, Mitre, Vargas, Moehler, Olson, Borowski, Herges, Johnson Nolasco, Martinez, Lightenburg and....Resop over Messenger based on how this spring has gone IMO.
March 28, 200620 yr Willis, Mitre, Vargas, Moehler, Olson, Borowski, Herges, Johnson Nolasco, Martinez, Lightenburg and....Resop over Messenger based on how this spring has gone IMO. this is right, imo.
March 28, 200620 yr wow that is correct, resop does edge out messenger becuz he has earned it. lightenberg makes the team cuz of performance and his veteran presence is a plus imo
March 28, 200620 yr now we throw in wellemeyer. this kind of throws things out of whack. i still want resop to start the season in the bigs. wellemeyer has no control. he's walked 61 guys in 84 innings in his career. yikes.
March 28, 200620 yr now we throw in wellemeyer. this kind of throws things out of whack. i still want resop to start the season in the bigs. Ya I agree...I guess this knocks out Lightenberg? But Wellemeyer is not good. I don't have the numbers on me but isn't he a +6.00 career ERA guy?
March 28, 200620 yr Author wonder if Wellemeyer is taking the place of Messenger, Resop or Ligtenberg???? now we throw in wellemeyer. this kind of throws things out of whack. i still want resop to start the season in the bigs. Ya I agree...I guess this knocks out Lightenberg? But Wellemeyer is not good. I don't have the numbers on me but isn't he a +6.00 career ERA guy? He is a 6+ era pitcher.....will look up his spring stats
March 28, 200620 yr Here is some info on him for people that are interested. Not too bad in my opinion, could be helpful to us. Stats: http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/tea...layer_id=425487
March 28, 200620 yr I don't like that 61 walks in 84.1 innings, though he does strike out more than 1/IP (92/84.1). Still, at this point, I think there were some better options.
March 28, 200620 yr i am going to see how he did in triple a for our pitching coach, krany. if he did well that might be the reason they brought him over. maybe krany knows how to work with the kid. in triple a last season these were his numbers: 53IP 25BB 48SO 3.02 ERA. He pitched in the pcl, a total hitter's league.
March 28, 200620 yr Author those are respectable numbers....does he have go on our 40 man roster now...I understand he will be if he is on the big league team.....
March 28, 200620 yr hmm... not sure if he has to. if he makes the big league team, then of course. otherwise i am not sure. in any case, the marlins have one or two spots open on the 40 man roster, so this trade doesn't bump anyone off unless one of the non-roster invitees (lenny harris, cepicky, or ligtenberg) make the club. just double checked and there are 39 on the 40 man roster. if wellemeyer takes up the final roster spot, that means that none of the non-roster invitees will make the club unless the marlins decide to send down one or more of players on the current 40 man roster through waivers. if they give megrew back to the dodgers then that clears up one spot. perhaps they also try to take bostick off. who knows. if wellemeyer takes up the final roster spot i think you can kiss ligtenberg and lenny harris goodbye. depends on whether they are willing to send megrew back to the dodgers (which i think they should) and take bostick off. just a note, jorg said they sent another guy to the cubs, too. we'll see if the other guy they sent was on the 40 man roster.
March 28, 200620 yr i think that they should send megrew back hes been hurt basically the whole ST and it would be a waste imo to keep place him on the DL and pay him the league minimum.

March 28, 200620 yr What? Wellemeyer? Did the Marlins make a trade? Yes... per Ryan Jorgensen (who was traded to the Reds ): http://www.marlinbaseball.com/forums/index...showtopic=58945
March 28, 200620 yr Must mean the team is high enough on Hayes/Sanchez to be the possible future @ C.
March 28, 200620 yr Wellemeyer's been awful. Don't see how he helps at all. He'd better not make this pen over Ligtenberg. I'd even rather have Cepicky on the roster.
March 28, 200620 yr So one of those three make it? I thought two out of three are going to make the club.
March 28, 200620 yr Author it is two out of three....now will Wellemeyer in the mix who the heck knows...why not keep Bump at least you know what he can and cannot do....
March 28, 200620 yr This is one crazy Spring Training. I am rooting for Resop and another guy who can do the job. :pray I was just listening to the radio and Beinfest said Wellemeyer is going to be in the pen from the start.
March 28, 200620 yr with what Resop's doing right now, i don't want him. i thought Ligtenberg was already in.. but i guess he isn't. i think it should be him.
March 28, 200620 yr Must mean the team is high enough on Hayes/Sanchez to be the possible future @ C. what does this have anything to do with our future catcher?
March 29, 200620 yr I'd like to say Messenger because of experience but Resop has definately earned a spot this spring while Messenger hasn't really shown anything that makes him stand out. I'd go with Resop.
