Brian Moehler

Let's give him a few more chances. I was in support of both him and mitre starting, even though I was in the minority. The season is plenty long enough that the young guys will get their shot. It's actually kinda nice that Johnson and Nolasco have gotten some oppurtunities without the pressure of starting.

this is the only reason that moe is starting...a reason that's been presented 100 times on this board. Beinfest will et Nolasco and Johnson low pressure innings first before giving them a full season's work load. Does anyone really want Johson/Nolasco to start every game this season? It's just not the correct way to introduce a young arm to the show. Deal with Moe. He's not going anywhere barring a trade and we won't be incontentikon this year anyway so it doesnt matter.

As true as it may be, I cannot watch games with the attitude that it doesn't matter. Otherwise, shut down the board and do not discuss anything, because we won't be in contention and it doesn't matter. On the other hand, discuss and debate like it matters and then it's fun-like it is meant to be. Early part of the season, I root for all the east teams to lose as if it matters. Later in the season, I will root for the teams in the east to lose that we can catch or stay ahead of. Something always matters.

Problem with putting Moe in the pen, makes our pen worse. But watching Leiter last year was ulcer inducing. 8 Mill and 65 pitches in the first two innings every outing.PAIN.

moe will be hard pressed to be as awful as Leiter was last year.

Of course the game results matter to me, but in the scheme of things next year and the year's beyond present us with a much greater chance of making the playoffs. So why rush kids and make personnel decisions off this season's W/L record? The FO isn't going to do it and neither will Joe, evidenced by his comments on yesterday's 4th inning bases loaded situation with Nolasco coming to bat...as opposed to bringing in a PH for him with JJ finishing the long relief situation.

I've already addressed management's reasoning for having Mitre/Moe in the rotation and won't do it again. There are reasons, I've articulated them, and the FO is smarter than you and I.

Basically, this season is a training grounds for us to evaluate talent, to mold a future core, while winning as many ballgames as possible. The latter is the least important of the three goals. It'll still be fun anyway.

not sure if this is just his opinion or if he heard something, but Joe Capozzi seems to think Moehler could either be skipped or replaced in his next start...

from the Palm Beach Post

Watching the comeback attempt from an exercise bike in the clubhouse was Moehler, who was mad at himself for putting his team in such an early hole.

Moehler allowed two-run home runs in the first inning to Lance Berkman and Preston Wilson.

Moehler allowed two more runs in the second, then left the game wondering why his mechanics suddenly failed him.

"I pitched a terrible game, that's the only way to explain it," said Moehler, whose $1.5 million contract makes him the second-highest-paid player on the team.

"Mechanically I don't feel right. Something is out of whack. The ball keeps running on me. I'm having a hard time with location."

Moehler, 34, could miss his next start. He went 0-3 with a 6.61 ERA in spring training and had hoped his fortunes would turn at Minute Maid Park, where he took a 2-0 record with a 1.50 ERA in four career starts against the Astros.

Well, we do have another off day following the Mets series making the possibility feasible.

off day

Mets game1 - Vargas

Mets game2 - Willis

Mets game3 - Mitre

off day

April 11th - who goes this game? Leaves only 3 days for Vargas.

Ah, the great Brian Moehler. Or as I call him Holer, cause he's a black hole. he sucks worse than any known entity in the universe.

You have to feel for Girardi on this one, put yourself in his shoes for a minute. You have to fill in a whole bunch of innings pitched ,while breaking in a new rotation. Not easy. Season is young.

Well, they could call Olsen up already and make him skip his April 10th start in Burque to make the 11th start in Miami. That'd be awesome for me because I was going to miss his first start if it is indeed April 15th.

Otherwise they could just plug Johnson into the rotation spot for Mo.

Early promotion for Olsen would make the most sense.

It is also the first game at home, so maybe tossing a rookie out there isn't such a bad thing.

A decision of that nature would mean the FO has completely soured on Moe, and doesn't envision him as ready enough to contribute as a starter. I like the move if it happens. Moe is MUCH better suited to a swingman role.

I say "not ready enough" because it has been reported that Moe wasn't quite in game shape yet, despite spring training...especially with adding the changeup back. I still think he'd be useful as a swingman for us.

I have no problem with Moe ... its one game, he's not there to be the ace and he is not there to carry the rotation. He is only there because he has been there in the past and could eat up a good number of innings

it was one puny start ... im sure the Astros are kicking themselves right now at Pettite and how much he sucked against a AAA team called the marlins ... he's washed up im sure

Moehler wasn't awful last year, not at the start anyway. He gave up alot of hits and walks, not good...but somehow kept them from scoring. In fact, his ERA was in the top 10 lowest for a nice # of starts, he just lost the ability to keep runs from coming in.

He was coming off injury and came back pretty good, then faltered. The thought was probably lets see what Moehler we get...the one that came back and pitched well(outside of WHIP), or the one who lost his gas.

I am not saying I oppose a young guy taking his spot, but to completely disregard that he pitched greatly at the start of last season is kind of shortsighted.
