Anyone worried about Mike Jacobs?

Im not suggesting sending Jake down.... but he needs to be out of the 5 hole

absolutely. I just don't think Stokes will do anything, and he'd be better served with consistent AAA time.

I just laugh when somebody suggests bringing up Stokes. You think watching Jacobs is frustrating to watch at the plate, at least Jacobs has some idea about the strike zone. Not to mention Stokes is worthless in the field.

To bad he plays better D than Jacobs.

No he doesn't. Have you seen Stokes play in the field.

Nope, have you? the 2006 edition of baseball america prospect handbook says good things about Stokes defensively.

What's his batting average?

Jacobs is like a sun behind the clouds. You know its there but won't show itself. :(

I've seen a little bit in spring training and it seems like he moves in slow motion. I don't own the 2006 handbook, but I do have the two previous years and they talk about his poor lateral movement, and the fact that he's below average defensively. I doubt that could've changed in the last year considering he didn't play last year.

"Still armed with the best raw power in the system, Stokes remains a mystery. His nagging problems with a balky left wrist have given way to a condition typically seen in elderly patients that causes his left thumb to come out of joint easily and without warning. He wears a brace on the field but was limited to just 46 at-bats in 2005. Signed for 2.027 million out of high school, Stokes is a good situational hitter who caan handle quality pitches when healthy. He runs well for a big man and has made significant strdes in the field. He worked extensively with Marlins infield coach Perry Hill at big league spring training last year and improved his footwork and reactions. Despite Carlos Delgado trade, Stokes still has obstacles ahead of him in Josh Willingham and off season acquistion Mike Jacobs. He likely will head to Triple-A to begin 2006"

Im pretty sure he is a better defensively than Jacobs because:

A) You can't get much worse than Jacobs, and if you are then your a DH

B) If Stokes where that bad of a defensive 1B I am sure the front office would have traded him and not Adrian Gonzalez for Urbina

Again I have never seen Stokes D but I have seen Jacobs and :thumbdown

I think Jacobs should be given a little more time. There enough time for Stokes to be called up and we're not exactly playoff bound.

Adrian was a higher rated prospect. I still think that was a horrible mistake trading Adrian over Stokes.

Adrian sure would look pretty good in a Marlins uni right now, but there's no way you can second guess that trade. At the time, Stokes had exponentially more valuable than Adrian, and Stokes was viewed as the better athlete. 10 times out of 10 at the time, you trade Adrian over Stokes, even now, I'd say a healthy Stokes is the best bet of the three we're talking about now (Jacobs, Gonzalez, Stokes) to be an average to above average major leaguer at first base, all things considered.

crazyness:

he is still projected to hit 27 homers and drive in 107

It's still April. Get back to me in June if he's still struggling.

Does the name Derrek Lee mean anything to you?

just move Jacobs down another notch or 2 in the lineup and he'll be fine

Since Joe wants Jeremy to hit lower down in the lineup maybe we should put Jeremy in the 5th spot and maybe Jacobs in the 6th.

Jacobs last season had 5 at bats versus lefties, 95 versus righties.

This season:

Jacobs .188 vs lefties (3-16) - .200 vs righties

Helms vs. lefties .444 average (4-9) - .273 vs righties

Helms lifetime versus Jeff Francis 3-5 w/2 doubles and 1 hr

Who does Girardi start? Jacobs. What does Jacobs do with the bases loaded versus Francis?

There comes a time when Joe needs to dismiss this notion that players don't need to be platooned....ever! In this case we have a player on the bench hitting over .400 versus lefties and .600 against Francis....no reason Helms should not have started tonight.

According to T-Hut they have diagnosed the problem in his swing. Something about his front shoulder, I wasn't being attention.

That's more work than Bill Robinson ever did. Hell, maybe even Robinson's wife.

wow good stuff Stag. 3-5 with 2 doubles and a homer?! Hello Girardi? This would've certainly seemed like a night to start Wes. Jacobs is slumping anyway, why not take the opportunity & give Helms a start?

1st and 3rd 2 outs and Hurdle brings in Ray King to face Jacobs. Does Joe send up Helms? Nope! Result....0 runs!

Next time Jacobs swings at the first pitch with runners on, I'm gonna lose it. What are the coaches telling him out there? Twice tonight he did it with runners in scoring position. Unreal.

Hot Corner...I have one better.

Who is at bat 5th bottom of 9th? Jacobs. How do you not use him against Francis or Ray King...and then use him against Mesa....when Fuentes their closer is possibly going to face Jacobs?

Three lefty pitchers...one righty....and he gets Helms versus the righty. Not Good!

yeah I said the same thing in the game thread. Girardi needs some help in there.

Wasn't Helms acquired in part to start some games at 1st? Jacobs stinks right now, Helms mashes lefties and this lefty in particular! I don't know what else you can say.

In the meantime at least get him out of the 5 spot in the order, this is killing us.
