April 29, 200620 yr Someone in the media needs to ask Joe baseball questions and get past the fluff articles. I know I am beating a dead horse but I just need to summarize today's game. - Helms does not start versus Francis even tho he is 3-5 lifetime with 2 doubles and 1 HR. He is also batting 400+ this season versus lefties. - Helms does not pinch hit for Jacobs in a key spot in the game. - Helms does not make an appearance against Ray King, a lefty. - Helms is used as a pinch hitter against Jose Mesa, a righty even though he is 0-6 lifetime against. - We use Matt Cepicky as a PH but we use Eric Reed as a PR. Why not use Reed as a PH and not use two batters? If you say its because Reed can't hit... - The game ended with Reed at bat. Jacobs 6 runners LOB...Reed now batting .087. Someone needs to get Joe to explain why he is fighting statistics.

April 29, 200620 yr 1st and 3rd 2 outs and Hurdle brings in Ray King to face Jacobs. Does Joe send up Helms? Nope! Result....0 runs! Exactly. Very poor move by Girardi. In the 5th Francis had just walked Willingham to load the bases and then Jacobs went down first pitch swinging by popping up to the SS. Talk about being out of it. Similar situation in the 7th and in comes the lefty King. It was an absolutely perfect situation to bring in Helms....and nothing. Jacobs again goes down 1st pitch swinging.. :banghead :banghead What the hell did Girardi think would happen????????????? And then Girardi allows Reed to come to the plate to end the game. :banghead I suppose he just waved the white flag by then.
April 29, 200620 yr kid has got so much talent but i dont know what the hell is wrong with him. hes left lke 100 runners on and could have like 30 rbi. read the marlins notes he know it himself
April 29, 200620 yr u saw him last year wats the hoez nation lol Actually, I didn't see him last year. He played for the Mutts. Hoez Nation... No comment. :shifty
April 29, 200620 yr You know what kills me about Jacobs? He got the game winning hit in that September game that absolutely positively 100% closed the book on the Marlins season. He just elicits so much rage from me on so many levels.
April 29, 200620 yr I never believed in the guy. I believe I said this somewhere else, but he reminded me of the way Shane Spencer was in 1998. (go ahead and look up his stats) I've wanted him to prove me wrong for a long time. I'm still waiting.

Anyways what ever happened to this thread.... http://www.marlinbaseball.com/forums/index...pic=60245&st=75 ???
April 29, 200620 yr I was at the game, so obviously I didn't hear either the tv or radio analysis of the game or play by play, but one thing in particular struck as the play unfolded, and that was with men at first and third and the runner at third breaking, was there any commentary on why Jacobs didn't throw home to get the runner instead of trying to start an unsuccessful DP? He would have had him dead to rights.

He would have had him dead to rights. Yeah, and as I mentioned in another thread, he was so close to 1B and the ball got there so quickly he had time to step on 1st before the throw home. I was puzzled by that choice as well. The chance of making a 3-6-3 DP is quite low when you have a speedy runner at the plate.

He would have had him dead to rights. It was the smart play to try early in the game. Turn the double play and you escape without any runs surrendered. Throw home and you risk the runner returning to third and the bases are loaded with only one out or worse jacobs botches the throw that he rarely has to make. Attempt the double play get the lead runner after the run score and at least you have a man on first with two outs. It comes down to the simple question of do you want bases loaded with with only 1 out and no runs scoring or do you want a man on first with two outs and it only being the second or third inning. Alot of damage has been done in games with the first scenario.

Just a few days ago Girardi was admonishing his team they had to know where the runners were and what their options were before the play unfolded. I think Jacons is so messed up right now he's not thinking straight. Thankfully Uggla has been a quick study after a couple of bonehead plays early on, he's een a rock out there. Hopefully when Jacobs' bat comes around he'll be a different guy in the field as well. He just seems to be pressing all the time. He had crossed into no-man's land and had Jacobs thrown home the runner at worst would be have caught in a run-down because he was too far down the line to easily scamper back to third. He was trying to score, and unfortunately, we let him.
April 29, 200620 yr I remember Rich and Tommy saying it was the right play for that time. (Jake to Hanley back to Jake).
April 29, 200620 yr I just don't understand why the team continues to let him swing at the first pitch every time. It seriously has to be up near 80% of the time he does.

Hes got so much talent! Hes over agressive though, I mean yesterday he faced a pitcher that hadnt threw a strike yet. He gets up there a swings at every pitch.... When he gets a hold of it hits a rop all the time, but you have to be much more patient.

When we lost both ends of a doubleheader to Colorado it was all over. You know what kills me about Jacobs? He got the game winning hit in that September game that absolutely positively 100% closed the book on the Marlins season. He just elicits so much rage from me on so many levels. Yeah he makes me see red and mumble. Send him down. That will cure this swing at everything BS he's been pullin all year. Give him a few rides in a cramped bus bumping armpits with Nate Bump and that will give him time to re-evaluate his pitch selection. Im serious.

April 30, 200620 yr Jacobs has such a long swing. It reminds me alot of Choi. I have my doubts about him being successful at this level. He just has so many holes in his swing to exploit.
