Death Penalty for Rape of Child?

Featured Replies

http://www.cnn.com/2006/LAW/04/20/child.ra...s.ap/index.html

Here is a story about the guy in SC who raped a 12 year old a long time ago and then raped and held captive two 17 year olds who luckily got away. The state is trying to get the DP on him. Here in Louisiana, a child rapist has already recieved the sentence, upheld by the state supreme court. It could see the light of day in the US Supreme Court.

So whats the thought? Is the death penalty just murder for murder? Or is it the ultimate retribution for the ultimate crimes...which might include this. I cant say Im opposed to this because Im pretty sure it takes a whole new level of sickness to do that to a kid.

Also, the supreme court has said no to death penalty for rape but that was adult on adult rape.

I'm against capital punishment personally, but when I think about it, I'd rather have one of these guys fried over a murderer.

Id say I feel no remorse for this guy. People like him dont deserve to breathe.

Sounds like a human waste to me. I'm all for the deather penalty.

Personally I'm for using these kind of guys for scientific and psychological research to figure out what the hell's wrong with them. I mean, he should never be outside of a jail, but what's wrong with using inmates as labrats for other things? Once you cross a certain line, f*** it, you get the "death sentence" you're now a human pin-cushion.

It seems wasteful to just kill them.

Then again, some people would bitch about human rights, to which you respond with, "f*** it. He got the death penalty. He's dead. He handed in his humanity card the minute he raped little kids and wouldn't stop the FIRST time he got away with it."

DEATH.

In cases like this you wish they gave judges shotguns, and when the guilty verdict came in the trigger was pulled...

Good point. It's always amazed me at what makes some people cross that line that most of us would never ever ponder. To some degree, all humans do it. We all do something we know is absolutley wrong or other people would look at us badly for. It's giving in to that pull to cross that artificial boundry between right and wrong. And it isnt just acts that dont hurt others. Of course it can range from eating your buddies sandwich knowing he wants it to cheating on one's wife. The fact that vice and adultery are common place in our society attests to it.

I dont think this guy would say what he does is right or good. Id say people like him know its evil and causes harm...heck that probably drives some of them or just controls others. But Id say the force that drives him to do it is the same force that drives us normal people to do wrong things. It's the same force that drives the Dean of Harvard's Divinity school to download porn at work. He just happens to be on an extremely different planet of wants and vices.

Maybe its a scale of how close and far we are from the line that seperates us from being animals. Id say this guy is a lot closer to being an animal and most of us are in the middle and people who have never given in to wrong are way beyond their animal base(perhaps a justification against killing him, since killing him only makes the wrong act of murder something we want). It also gets into the question of morality and whether we need it imposed on us-ie organized religion in strict fashion.

That said, fry the mofo.

I'd agree.

I just want to determine the line between the psychological, which means he's sick and it's not his fault, and the moral, which means he's just an idiot who can't use reason to tell himself "no." Is it nature or nurture? That's what I want to determine. At some point did something in his life make him cross a line or is it purely some DNA strand he has that differs from normal people's.

You know, I'm conservative, pro-death penalty, and I'm not so sure I agree with this one, which surprises me when I see everyone from FTF to Dodge to F_M agreeing on it.

There's no doubt he's a sick, sick person. But like Buckeye said, essentially we're going to waste him. After waiting for a date and going through appeals and whatnot, when he gets to the chair his life will be over almost instantly, whether or not they fry him or give him the injection. If he's in prison for life, he'll get raped for the rest of his natural life, maybe then he'll know how it feels. Plus, as Buckeye said, you can perform all the psychological tests you want on the guy. I say multiple life sentences without any chance of perole, but I actually think the death penalty is letting him get off too easily.

I'm against capital punishment personally, but when I think about it, I'd rather have one of these guys fried over a murderer.

That doesn't make any sense.

It does to me and I agree with Dodge 100% on that. What doesn't make sense about it to you?

I am against the death penalty. It serves no purpose in this case just like all the other cases than to get our humanistic revenge for death or now in this case for scarring a young child(ren)

Does it suck? Yes.

Should these people be put to death? No.

Why? Becuase in the end it solves zero. The only thing done is to say, hooray! we took another bad man off the streets and put him in the chair so we never have to worry about him ever again. Big damn deal.

Is also much more costly to kill someone than to just throw them in the hole for the rest of their lives.

You need to make the most harsh crimes mean something, to most killers and all, death isnt that meaningful to them, thus giving them the chair doesnt seem to be doing the job. Put them in a 10x10 cell for the rest of their lives and make them truly suffer. Cheaper and probably more effective.

Anyone who rapes a child should be put to death no questions asked. Once they're found guilty, take them out back behind the court house and off them, let the victim or family of the victim decide if they prefer a firing squad or a hanging. No fancy humane lethal injection, no 20 years on death row, just off them right then and there after the verdict has been read.

Kill them all and let god sort em out.

 how bout if a child rapes a child?

Is this correct? I've always assumed it was just the opposite. Wouldn't it cost much more to keep someone in prison for life than to kill them? Three square meals a day, medical care, cost of supervision, etc...

they dont just sit there they do work. and to kill someone they need doctors and all sorts of personel not to mention the actual cost of killing them. plus the extra appeals processes that take place because of the death charge, cases are also longer. there is usually more investigations too when the death penalty is being seeked out.

i am not saying the death penalty costs too much so we shouldn't do it but we should be judicious about it.

Das is right. It does cost more to go through the whole process of killing someone as it does to keep them in prison for the rest of their life.

Killing them immediately, or waiting for the system to actually kill them. doesn't seem to give the same benefits as studying them, to me. I mean, sure, the woodshed thing SOUNDS cool. But you get more benefits from using them as lab rats.

Therein lies the problem.

A piece of rope hanging from a treet is probably only a few bucks and a single bullet is mere pennies. Forget all the other crap, just do society a favor off them right outside the courthouse after the verdict is revealed.
