Scott Olsen----------------John Lieber

0-1, 1.69ERA----------------0-3, 9.18 ERA

If people learn the most from making mistakes, the Marlins are getting a great education.

They hope they can start putting the lessons to use Friday night, when they open a three-game series against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

The Marlins committed three errors while losing a four-run lead in a 9-8 setback at Cincinnati on Wednesday afternoon. The loss cost Dontrelle Willis his second win of the season.

"We're trying to do too much with what we're given," first baseman Mike Jacobs said. "We're trying to make plays that aren't there. For me, there's no difference between Triple-A and Double-A and the Majors. You've got to make the plays on the field."

The Marlins go into their sixth series of the season still looking for their first win. They also are 0-5 in one-run games.

Pitching matchup

FLA: LHP Scott Olsen (0-1, 1.69 ERA)

Olsen is hoping his second appearance at Citizens Bank Park is better than his first. He gave up six runs -- three earned -- over 1 2/3 innings and was the losing pitcher in a 10-5 Marlins defeat last July 16.

PHI: RHP Jon Lieber (0-3, 9.18 ERA)

Lieber took advantage of two Florida errors to pick up the win in that game last July.

Player to watch

Phillies second baseman Chase Utley helped drive Olsen out of that game last season with a first-inning, three-run home run, one of two homers allowed by Olsen in his brief appearance. The 27-year-old Utley had four home runs and 12 RBIs going into Philadelphia's game against Washington on Wednesday night.

I can't wait until the pre-game show. I want to know what he said to the players .

my guess is that his speech was something about focus and potential...maybe focusing on their potential, maybe focusing on the situation to creat the greatest potential outcome...i dont know...but i hope it worked

Marlins pitchers have been horrible against the Phillies lately.

Any lineups?

If we can get on Philly early we should be ok. Utley and Burrell scare the hell out of me, but I'm not too worried about Leiber.

If we have the lead, and the bullpen blows it again, call somebody up. Doesn't matter who.

If we continue to walk people, our pitching coach needs to rethink his stategy.

Thanks Ramp. Lets see if Jake can break out of this slump.

no Rollins, that's a pretty good sign.
