Pitching plans: Saturday's scheduled starters, Marlins right-hander Sergio Mitre and Phillies right-hander Brett Myers, will pitch today.

The Marlins decided to skip right-hander Brian Moehler, who has been struggling (13.50 ERA) and start left-hander Jason Vargas on Monday when they open a three-game series against the Cubs in Chicago.

Left-handers Dontrelle Willis and Scott Olsen will start Tuesday and Wednesday.

Girardi had hoped to avoid using three left-handers against the same team, but Saturday's rainout changed that.

Olsen elated: Olsen, who attended high school outside Chicago in Crystal Lake, Ill., was worried Saturday's rainout might force him to miss his pitching debut at Wrigley Field.

"I get to pitch in Chicago? That's wonderful!" he said.

Olsen said he pitched once before at Wrigley, in 2002 "in a pre-draft workout a couple of days after graduation. It didn't turn out too well. It was raining. I couldn't throw a strike. I didn't make too good of an impression on the Cubs' scouting director, I guess. They passed on me."

The Marlins drafted Olsen in the sixth round. "Oh, well," he said. "I'm in a pretty good situation right now."

Olsen's last visit to Wrigley Field was Oct. 14, 2003. He was among the scores of fans mingling in the streets outside the ballpark while the Cubs lost to the Marlins 8-3 in Game 6 of the 2003 National League Championship Series.

I'm excited he's being skipped, but I wish we didn't have 3 lefties in a row.

Yikes. The Cubs have a rghthanded-dominated lineup. Atleast they did before Lee went down. Who's taking his place?

Todd Walker and John Mabry will either be playing 1b so its a good thing.

Moehler sucks horribly, but Vargas isn't pitching much better. The guy is walking way too many batters.

That's what I was thinking.

Girardi was upbeat regarding Moehler on Marlins on Deck today. Said Moehler was making good progess in the bullpen and wanted to allow him to continue working on his game while keeping the rest of the starters on normal rest.

Probably doesnt mean anything though but I just wanted to post this.

As much as I feel bad for Moehler, I'm pumped we've decided to go with Vargas tomorrow. I don't get to catch a lot of the games on tv, and honestly I wasn't looking forward to watching Moehler get dished up as the sacrificial lamb for the Cubbies on ESPN.

Thanks Holly.

Throwing 3 lefties at them may not be a bad thing after all.
