Jason Schmidt 4-2 2.78------------------------Josh Johnson 4-2 2.18

Jason's scouting report:

Pitching

Many players call Schmidt the most feared starter in the National League. He not only throws hard and has a nasty slider, but he has developed a changeup that is among the best in the game. Rather than nibbling at the corners as he did earlier in his career in Pittsburgh, Schmidt comes at hitters with a fastball clocked as high as 98 MPH. Schmidt had a 12-game winning streak from April 26 to July 17 in which he established himself as the top starter in baseball. He threw two one-hitters during the streak, each against high-powered offenses (Cubs, Red Sox).

Defense & Hitting

If there is a drawback in Schmidt's game, it's his fielding. His 6-foot-5 frame and high-energy delivery put him at a disadvantage with the glove. He committed three errors last season. An elbow injury in 2003 hindered Schmidt at the plate. He has four homers in his career, however, with 17 RBI. Although at times he can look awkward at the plate, he has sneaky power.

Josh Johnson wasn't in the Marlins' starting rotation at the beginning of the season, but he's since become one of the team's most valuable starters. Johnson was in the bullpen for the first month of the season, but he was made a starter May 4 and hasn't looked back since, winning three of his five outings since joining the rotation. He'll be looking to get his second straight win Wednesday when the Marlins attempt to pick up a series sweep against the Giants. He'll take the mound against Giants righty Jason Schmidt, who owns a perfect 6-0 record vs. the Marlins. The Marlins will also likely not be facing Barry Bonds in the final game of the series. The veteran slugger, who went 1-for-4 with a single in the series opener Monday, sat out.Tuesday's game and is expected to sit in Wednesday's game as well. A win Wednesday against the Giants would give the Marlins their second sweep of this homestand following the three games they took from the Cubs last week. A big part of the Marlins' success has been their aggressiveness on the basepaths, namely from Hanley Ramirez, who is second in the National League in steals with 16. "I like our club to be aggressive," Marlins manager Joe Girardi said. "I think if you've got a lot of athletic guys on your team, you'll be getting a lot of stolen bases." The Marlins will have an off-day Thursday before beginning a three-game series against the Rockies at Coors Field on Friday night. The Marlins were swept by the Rockies earlier this season at Dolphin Stadium.

Pitching matchup

SF: RHP Jason Schmidt (4-2, 2.78 ERA)

Schmidt has looked stellar throughout the first two months of the season, going no less than six innings in each outing. The righty owns a 4.97 ERA at Dolphin Stadium.

FLA: RHP Josh Johnson (4-2, 2.18 ERA)

Johnson outdueled Pedro Martinez in his last outing, a 5-1 victory over the Mets. The righty went seven innings, allowing one run on two hits with eight strikeouts. This will be his first career start against the Giants.

Player to watch

Steve Finley, a career .265 hitter against the Marlins, needs two home runs to become just the fifth player to get 300 homers and 300 stolen bases.

No Bonds :sweating . Good.

Gammons did say that once Barry passed Ruth, he'd more than likely miss a couple games, and possible go to the DL.

Olivo=yuck

Why the hate on Olivo?

some peeps just dont like him for no good reason

he's certianly our best option at catcher and I think he does a fine job.

go olivo! maybe the haters will shut up after he drops a bomb today :shifty

Did anyone see Dontrelle? How can you not love him?

Fish4Life...Ditching the game AGAIN!! :D

I remember that homer! :thumbdown

Olivo=yuck

Why the hate on Olivo?

because he's not as good offensively as Pudge or Lo Duca would be my guess.
