It seems like everyone is all hyped up by the loss everyone forgot what a job JJ did. He has been everything and so much more since he joined the rotation.

*7 innings *0 runs *5 hits * ERA down to 2.11

yeah thats true, he pitched very well its just a shame we couldnt get him the win.

Yep, as usual when we can step back from gut-wrenching losses like that one, that's the kind of thing that still gives you a lot of hope for this team down the road. Josh Johnson's pitching fantastic. Take away that 5th inning of bad defense behind him and he basically matched Jason Schmidt today.

I agree. We were one hit away from winning the game. With a learning team like this that is pretty good. Next year if we lose games like this it will be different. This year we have to learn from our mistakes, find out how to have good AB's, how to get runners in at 3rd with less than 2 down etc:. These losses might hurt US but they are better for THEM! They need to learn how to win. If things come easy they wont try as hard because they know it will come easy for them.

Take out that 5th inning and he OUTPITCHED Schmidt.

Johnson is 0.2 innings shy of qualifying for the League leaders in ERA he would currently be 2nd by only 0.03 to Webb of Arizona. That is impressive. If he continues to pitch well I think he is a candidate for rookie of the year also.

Josh pitched hella good, but his defense didn't help much..and the numbers 4,5 and 6 hitters obviously ate a big amount of sh*t in the 9th inning to give us the lost.We should've won it in the 9th,2nd and 3rd with nobody out COME ON!Just a Sac Fly would've done the job..i guess Schmidt snuck into the marlins dugout in the bottom of the 8th and opened a hole in Cabrera's,Willingham's and Hermida's bats..ooh well.next time we have to WIN THAT sh*t,regardless of who we're facing.

It is not lost that Josh has gone out and given us quality start after quality start. This is the type of thing we used to hear about in prior years that our stud pitchers still had to learn how to go out and consistently have 6 or 7 quality starts in a row before they would be crowned stars. Looks like Penny has learned that this year, Beckett still is trying and AJ just couldnt figure it out. JJ has done it FOR NOW, but he is a rookie and may falter (hope not) a bit. Then he will need to make "the adjustment".

Tough loss last night, especially since the losing runs started on an error and what was Olivo thinking about running with JJ at bat and going to a 3-0 count. What happens the next inning if Hanley and Uggie get those hits with 0 outs instead of the one out because JJ had to lead off? Did Olivo think that JJ would drive him in? All JJ was looking for was a walk anyway.

As I said in the other thread about that game and that inning. Shmidt is one of the best pitchers in MLB and when he has that sick changeup working I don't care who you are you will not hit him. He proved he was on last night by striking out 16, I mean I was not surprised he pumped it up another level when he got in trouble. That was not what I was pissed about, I was more pissed about the mistakes that lead to them getting the lead and the win. We can thank Hanley for that game. 2 unearned runs.... :banghead

I know Josh pitched great but he did fall apart (a little) after the error. A term I believe is called AJ Burnett-itis.

He pitche a good game and recovered after the error inning. Really a shame he gets the loss.

as for Rookie of the year, there is alot of canidates this year, from us and other teams. It will be an interesting race.

JJ pitched a great game and had a chance to get himself some run support with a 3-0 count until olvio got stupid and made the 3rd out at 2nd.

I don't think his performance was lost in all of this...

But that awful 9th inning deserves to be the subject of our game reactions.

Keep in mind this was his second game against the Giants in a short span, and so its a big validation of his stuff to go and dominate the second time out. Mentally he just seems a lot more organised than most of the big arms we've had through here the last few years.

He had no-hit stuff last night. All 3 pitches working and he had amazing movement. Plus an umpire with a huge strike zone. JJ is an ace.

*knocks on wood*

JJ's worst start was 7 innings- 3-Runs. Which is pretty good.

I'll take 3 runs in 7 innings. That around a 4.50 era.

Actually an ERA under 4.

3 ER/6 innings is a 4.5 era exact. 3 ER/7 innings is actually around 3.9, if not a tad lower.

3.86, that is pretty good for a season ERA.
