Many Marlin fans have already written off Eric Reed but it's interesting to note that this guy has ALWAYS been around .300 as a hitter in the minors.

He could help us in the future....look at his batting average from his career minor league stats...

2002 Jamestown (Low A)- .308 (250 ABs)

2002 Kane County (A)- .360 (50 ABs)

2003 Jupiter (High A)- .300 (514 ABs)

2004 Carolina (AA)- .306 (222 ABs)

2005 Carolina (AA)- .255 (271 ABs)

2005 Albuquerque (AAA) .310 (171 ABs)

2006 Marlins Spring Training (MLB) .333 (60 ABs)

2006 Albuquerque (AAA) .303

This guy can play ABOVE AVERAGE D. He's stolen 145 bases/ 54 caught stealing (including 53 SB in 2003). Basically the only times this guy hasn't hit was last year in AA and with the Fish earlier this year.

He will get another chance with the Marlins...and I hope it's this year! :thumbup

I've never seen a player look so outmatched at the plate in my life. He looked worse than Reggie. Yea, I went there.

I agree he looked HORRIBLE earlier this year but so has Reggie, Borchard at times, and Aguila.

He hit well in spring training and I'm sure he'll get another chance. I was just pointing out that he's produced at all levels so far.

Does that mean he will in the majors? No....but he'll get another chance.

Agree with this. Stats are one thing, but when I guy looks so horirbly overmatched...you just know he isn't going to make it. I think Scott Olsen might look better at the plate then Reed. (half kidding)

Slap hitters I would think ( this is just a quick theory) will put up good numbers in the minors because of the extreme difference between defense /pitching in MLB and the minors.

Aguila has never once looked like a capable major leaguer, and yet he has absolutely torn up minor league pitching.

That is true about slap hitters but Pierre had some good years.

I just think Reed should get 1 more chance.

His D and speed on the basepaths warrant him being here as a late game replacement at some point IMO.

If the slap hitting dont hurt, teach him to lay down the most perfect bunts ever and let his wheels do the work. When they move in on him to prevent the bunt, hopefully he'll be able to hit bloops over the 1st(or 3rd) basemans head.

IMO, Reed can still be very valueable. But I will be the first to admit I was wrong, who thought he'd take the starting CF position and never look back at the beginning of the season. But still time to turn it around.

He's worse than the poor man's Juan Pierre. Hell, he's not even the homeless man's Juan Pierre.

What's funny about a career .300 minor league hitter who sucked in his 1st MLB stint?

Most people would give him another shot. :plain

He was at one point a Top 7 Marlins prospect.

the reasons are almost too obvious.

Who's "most people" by the way? I can't think of a single major league club who could even use him as a 5th OFer.

Wait...are you the genius behind Reed is Master? :lol

Nope...that's not me.

I just think that prospects deserve more than 1 chance. Reed hit 20-60 this spring with 10 SBs/2 CS. Sure, it's only the spring...but again he stole 53 bases in 2003 and has a career .300 minor league average.

I just don't understand why it's funny to give him a shot.

Meanwhile, Chris Aguila being a career .276 minor league hitter keeps getting chances. Reggie Abercrombie being a career .258 minor league hitter gets a chance. Joe Borchard a career .272 minor league and .193 major league hitter gets a chance. And Cody Ross a career .272 minor league and .182 major league hitter coming into this year gets a chance.......

Now I'm not saying Eric Reed is going to be the next Pierre or Ichiro....I'm just saying that he's stolen over 50 bases before, is a career .300 hitter, and had an excellent spring.

All I'm saying is that he should get another chance sometime...and yes he could be a good 4th or 5th OFer someday!

haha you're right.

He may be fast but what is he 5'10 - 86 pounds?

If Eric Reed wants a career in the majors, the one key problem he needs to address isnt his slap hitting etc, its his eye at the plate. His strikeout to walk ratio is poor, and for a plus defender with no power, his ability to get on base dictates his offensive value.

He currently has just 5 walks, but 20 strikeouts in 102 ABs. His average may be .294, but his OBP is just .324. His on-base will be the stat to continue to watch. If he can get it at least 50 points higher than he may still have a shot.

Holding a 5-2 lead in the final frame, Iowa reliever Michael Wuertz mowed through the Isotopes first two batters on four pitches when Mark Little lined to second and Chris Ashby struck out to give Albuquerque two quick outs. Mike Colangelo then stepped to the plate as the last man standing and worked a 2-2 count before belting a double to center to give theolding a 5-2 lead in the final frame, Iowa reliever Michael Wuertz mowed through the Isotopes first two batters on four pitches when Mark Little lined to second and Chris Ashby struck out to give Albuquerque two quick outs. Mike Colangelo then stepped to the plate as the last man standing and worked a 2-2 count before belting a double to center to give the ?Topes life. That brought up Reed, who blasted a Wuertz offering over the left field fence, his first homer of the season, to cut the Iowa advantage to one run at 5-4.

but the thing is , who are the pitchers he faced..did he face MLB pitching , or the non-roster invitees and the minorleauguers ?

ok shhhh now

ok shhhh now

thats two homeruns sorry

He has a .322 OBP. The guy is garbage. BAs are so deceiving with guys like Reed and Pierre. All they do is hit singles, and if they don't get singles, they're worthless. They don't walk, they strike out a lot for guys without power, etc.
