Posted June 18, 200618 yr Hanley is hitless in his last 28 at-bats. Call me crazy but the kid is still hurt from his DL stint and it's showing because he's too good to be in a slump like this unless something physically is bothering him.
June 18, 200618 yr Even my kid noticed how slowly he is releasing the ball on infield plays and how he appears to have trouble even getting it to Jacobs above the waist. It very well may be his hand but he's also "dancing" with his back foot instead planting it so there could be myriad of issues at work here. We forget at any time any number of players can be counted among the walking wounded. In the same way that Jacobs pretty much played everyday since San Diego with a sprained ankle, Ramirez may be one of them.

June 18, 200618 yr and i think joe mentioned that he has had no thoughts of moving hanely down in the order to get him jumpstarted...i dunno what can be done to help this kid out...i mean 0 for 28 is pretty damn serious....basically it is like 0 for his last 7 games on average....(4ABs per game)....that is pretty serious.....but as long as the team keeps winning i will guarantee you his slump will get over looked by the people that are on the bandwagon
June 18, 200618 yr I wouldn't be surprised if his back is also still bothering him from that nasty fall.
June 18, 200618 yr People do go on slumps. Didn't Jeter go 0-26 last year? I recall Jeter getting booed and Yankee Stadium when he got into the late teens.

It pretty much went unnoticed when Miggy wasn't hitting. Friday he got his first RBI in the entire month, and that was a home run. When the team is winning things like that don't get noticed. And to those of us that do notice, it is something to talk about how two of our best hitters and run producers are in a slump and the team just keeps on keeping on.
June 18, 200618 yr Hanley is going to bust out soon. Atleast he is hitting the ball *knock on wood*. The baseball is just not finding holes. Its just a test. He will figure it out soon.
June 18, 200618 yr The problem with Hanley is that the pitchers have a book on him now and he has to make ajustments. Take Jake he batted 310 with 11 hr last year in 100 abs. last year. He got off to a bad start because pitchers made ajustments and now Jake has made adjustments and is hittng. This game is all about adjustments. Remeber He was like a .275 hitter last year in AA last year so for him to keep hitting .330 like he was is not very relistic. He may have an injury but the Marlins have been very cautious with injuries so I don't think they would let him play if he was hurt.
June 18, 200618 yr Author Hanley IS hurt. It came out a few weeks ago that he was playing with an injured hand. That was a few weeks ago. It doesnt mean he is still hurt. Hand injuries are hard to come back from because the hands are everything fior a hitter in terms of timing, power, etc. My theory is that that and his back injury are still bothing him and he's trying to play through it but it ain't working. And my mistake for saying he went on the DL, I was referring to the days off he took for his back and hands some weeks ago.
June 18, 200618 yr Didn't Jeter go 0-26 last year? I believe it was 0-32, and in 2004, but I may be wrong. Hanley will get out of it either way.
June 18, 200618 yr At leaast get him out of the lineup. Put Alfredo at SS, put Hermida in center and play both Ross and Borchard. I agree. Even if he isn't hurt, the guy needs a day or two off. Girardi's done it pretty often, we saw it with Jacobs & even Willingham I think. Dunno why he hasn't done it with Hanley on this cold streak.
June 18, 200618 yr Herald MARLINS NOTEBOOK Ramirez finds problem in swingBY CLARK SPENCER [email protected] Hanley Ramirez has identified what he believes to be the source of his prolonged hitting slump: a weight shift that throws off his swing. Once that's rectified, the shortstop said he expects to rediscover his early season groove. ''I've been jumping [at the plate],'' said Ramirez, who went 0 for 4 on Saturday and was hitless in his past 28 at-bats. After raising his average to .344 by going 3 for 3 against the Chicago Cubs on May 22, Ramirez went into a tailspin at the plate, going 11 for 81 (.136). Not surprisingly, the rookie leadoff hitter's on-base percentage has taken a sharp drop, from .411 to .345. He is now on the brink of tying the club record for at-bats without a hit by a position player, 0 for 29, which is shared by Bret Barberie (1993) and Derrek Lee (1998). The record for any Marlins player is 0 for 30 and is held by Brad Penny (2000). Ramirez's repeated failure to reach base has directly impacted Miguel Cabrera, who has driven in only one run in his past 14 games despite hitting .333 (17 for 51) during that span. ''Hanley's going through a tough time, but the great thing is we've been able to win games,'' manager Joe Girardi said. ``When Hanley gets hot again, to me it's going to be that much better, because he will get hot.''
